You obviously have not really looked at the stats and ages of the roster Coach Pope has assembled.
You also must not know much about the staff he assembled either.

If you were informed about these things you would be saying that Coach Pope is going to have a great first season and will definitely make a run in March.

The standard at Kentucky is... anything less than Sweet 16 is a complete failure season. Sweet 16 is an eeh... season. FInal 4 is a good season, Natty is a great season. THAT is the standard, and it never changes.
With that said, Pope came in. He is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better x's and o's guy than Cal was / is. Without a Doubt. He came in late, all HS folks had been recruited, all he had to work with was the portal. He also had to build a coaching staff. The BYU coaching staff was not even close to good enough to coach at Kentucky, so scratch.
He has built a great coaching staff, and has gotten most of his guys from the portal. Decent job.
So I will give pope a year to get to at least Eeh. I do expect to make the tournament this year. 1 win in the tourney would match the best Cal has given us in the last 4 years.
That seems like a completely reasonable expectation. So Pope gets somewhat of a probation year where there's criticism, but not at the level Cal would have gotten.... Is Year 2 the microscope season?
@@ESPNLouisville Honestly I supported Cal, until this year. the next to the last straw was not starting reed and rob, the BY FAR better players at guard. He started dj and edwards every game they were available, every game we got behind to start, and then reed and rob had to come in and get us back in the game, and win it. The final straw was right before the NCAA tournament when he said What are they going to do? Fire me? I'll buy an island. That let me know he didn't want to be here, and wanted to get fired so he got his 33 mil.
Looking at it now without the rose colored glasses of no longer thinking the UK coach loved UK, Cal is a bad coach. He had good assistants in the good UK years who would tell him no. Now he has just yes men.
All he has to do this year is beat Arkansas.
Fair point. Winning that game at Rupp and the rivalry game in December might be enough to satiate UK fans for a season.

I love all of the message boards and all of the podcasts that keep acting like BBM isn’t BBN. We want to win and we want to win now!! However, some of us with sense are just waiting till the team laces up on the hardwood. The standard is the standard and Coach Pope understands that. He’s not Popey boy or whatever you called him.
