'We should respect them' indeed. It is sad that there seem to be some trying to hijack this wonderful lady's story of the people here who tried to defend their city during a very hard time. This is about Hong Kong citizens looking after their home, not about the brave Canadians and others who fought so hard to try to keep the enemy out.
I don't mean to offend you, but the people who fought during the 1941 battle of Hong Kong also consisted of the HKVDC, people who actually were HK citizens who defends their home gallantly. P.S I am not devalueing this woman's story..
I hope she dont hate Japanese people if she meet cause of what happen in the past. I salute all Brave woman that stand up for cruelty of japan army at WW2
So, as you know a lot about medicine, and are Chinese, here is something I wrote a few years back about medicine, except in what I wrote a few years ago, I called it "medication." Also, the way these things were written was both a little bit creative, sort of with some distinct elements, but also followed some of the way the Chinese process of learning is used, which, as Confucius taught, is to mimic. I have read alot of poems, and study the word structure of the poems of others. I may take one of their sentences and switch a few words out but keep the rest the same, sort of mimicking and creating both at the same time.
As Medication is an aid for the body Meditation is an aid for the mind To sit in a state of bare awareness Is to get into touch with reality As it is Rather than As it is thought One may meditate on an object Such as A sight, Or a breath One may meditate on the subject of an object Such as The landscape of a sight Or the flow of the breath Thought, gap, thought, gap… The thoughts become shorter The gaps become longer Each comes and goes As easily as A river flows In stillness, It is realized There is this space between you and your thoughts There is this space between you and everything You are... And I won't give it a name

I hope the future of Hong Kong allows the people of Hong Kong to rightfully preserve and keep their culture organic and dynamic. I hope that its people unite and gain autonomy from mainland China.
Preserving and keeping Hong Kong culture "organic and dynamic" is not mutually exclusive with joining mainland China. Anyway, it doesn't matter what you westerners "hope" will happen, you have no say in the matter.
Edwin Lukas ... lol, Im not even western. I was born in Bangkok, belonging to a family of Teochew descent and im sure NOONE except for the CCP has the right over this matter which concerns so many. How racist can you be to assume my race from the language i use. Must i type Thai to show that im not western or must i be chinese to have the right over the humanity of a culture. You are treating the world too mildly.
Certainly the US is taking too much credit for what little they have sacrificed compared to the tens of other nations that took ACTIVE part in the war. This is their story, you have had enough mentions. THIS is their UNSUNG story, not ur “american aid” story. Yeah if anyone should take lessons from WW2 in the Asia-pacific theater, they should look to china, especially Nanking, ShangHai, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand and definitely Hong Kong. This isnt even half of the lesson, there are many more, and even Hiroshima and Nagasaki should make the list. Yet we are hearing “american aid??” U imperialist.

I salute you granny.
Hope you have a great old age life.

For someone who is 84, she looks and sounds like someone a lot younge
I love listening to the older generation talk about HK in times of war. Can’t wait to fly back and talk to them about it!

When lenity and cruelty vie for a kingdom, the gentlest gamer is the soonest winner.
As
Medication is an aid for the body
Meditation is an aid for the mind
To sit in a state of bare awareness
Is to get into touch with reality
As it is
Rather than
As it is thought
One may meditate on an object
Such as
A sight,
Or a breath
One may meditate on the subject of an object
Such as
The landscape of a sight
Or the flow of the breath
Thought, gap, thought, gap…
The thoughts become shorter
The gaps become longer
Each comes and goes
As easily as
A river flows
In stillness,
It is realized
There is this space between you and your thoughts
There is this space between you and everything
You are...
And I won't give it a name

Edwin Lukas Lol Westerners literally BUILT Hong Kong. So called Westerners lived in Hong Kong for more than a century before you were born.
@Man Kok Lau No, it's only between CPC *and* the democratic will of Hong Kong's people.
@Man Kok Lau Beijing doesn't "appoint top officials", Hong Kong electors democratically elect officials.
