Good choice, the cover on my Freeman was in 3 bits, just use to have the roof up when cruising in the rain, leaving the sides off for access and keeping an eye on obstacles etc.
So good to see you looking and sounding better than you were, James. Keep well. Keep warm. Sloe Patrol is looking better every time you post a vlog. Thank you for sharing with us all.
Nice work James! The dodger being on the inside looks great and not having to remove the whole piece to get in and out is great idea. It must really help kept the cold and drafts from inside. Love your ingenuity, the fork thing was brilliant. Your mind must be racing all the time thinking of things to do or redo. Great news that you are looking at a bigger boat. You have done so much work on Sloe Patrol to make it as comfortable as possible. Having a bigger boat for the children would be fantastic. Good luck and have a safe trip! 🤗😊 Kathy
Thanks Kathy as always. The pram hood is great at keeping the weather away from the boat. It’s as a I said before, I need more space soon so am looking at solutions
You could add extra strength with struts on either side of the windscreen, secured to the uprights about 8-12" from the roof of the boat and bolted to the hand rail, about 8-12" forward from the windscreen. As a QS I'm sure you know that triangles = rigidity 🙂 Just a thought.
So good to see a new video from you James! And the pram and the weather and the birthday and the 57 footer and ...wait... you went into a jewelry store and then you dont even let us see it?? You're a rascal to have that cliff hanger in there. So that tells me you are pretty much back to your old self. I do hope all is smoothing out. Whoever made up dry January was a sadist. Stay well!
I’m still me old self and I’ve been like this with booze. Giving that up in the month is not my idea of fun!! It was a pair of earrings. By law I’m not allowed to buy an engagement ring ever again so no worries there mate
Looks so technical, I think I would have used Velcro 🤔 only because I don’t think I would have had the patience you’ve shown 👍 it is looking good, you should be very pleased with yourself 👌
Love the fact that your making your own pram cover. My concern is when you need to lower the windscreen for low bridges it’s going to be a faff to unbolt it. Our cover has sewn in Velcro strips attached to the hood and wrap around the frame to hold it in place!!
Happy birthday, kids! It was only a matter of time before a bigger boat appeared on the horizon, James. An 8 berth wide-beam would suit you nicely, Sir. All the best with your haggling skills. Make sure you get a full survey this time!!! 😉
No need. The boat is beyond a survey at the moment - long way to go - we’ll see. I’d love an 8 berth widebeam - but there’s £100k difference in value between sloe and one of those
Hi james, great videos!! Followed you from the start😊👍🏻 Could you tell me where you got the canvas material from, the name of it and how do you rate the quality and water resistance. Kind regards Sean
James you have the patience of a saint, I admire that. I’d be so distracted by a bottle of Famous Grouse and a Guitar amp, I’d be months getting the windscreen done. One idea i had for you and it would be a lower priority, would be to put a drip rail along the bottom of the windscreen, so that water running down it would be channeled over the side. The dodger does look much better on the inside. Really glad to see you a bit more perky and up beat. Keep it up man! Really interested in the idea of a 57 footer. Great video and update!
That’s why mate I’m so late - because of the grouse and amp !! The rain off the windscreen just trickles down the boat onto the gunnels so works out for the moment. The other boat is interesting Vid on its way
My first reaction to the windscreen challenge is that I would have cut off the end of the rail. It gave me a bit of a chuckle seeing that I had that one wrong--using the rail as a point to secure the windscreen frame is rather brilliant. Totally different topic, but I like your pronunciation of "button." As far as I can tell, there has been a vowel shift in North America, in which the "o" has become an "i" and a further consonant change to soften (and almost eliminate) the double "t" sound. Your accent is close to what was known as the "Mid-Atlantic" accent, where every vowel and consonant was sounded. Years ago, that would have typified a lot of Canadian accents, but with Americanized vowel sounds. But back to the pram hood..... I am watching what you do because I plan to re-cover my patio greenhouse: basically the same challenge. One thing I thought of was tensioning seams hemmed with buttons with a slightly stretchy cord. I think that might be an idea you could incorporate. Love the fork method. 😁 The pram hood is looking really good! Party on! 🍺
I think you are first person in 45 years to pick up on the way I say “button”. Glad you approve !! Like all these things there are so many ways to support, strengthen and hold in place. I’m sure this will improve over time
Glad to hear you're feeling more like yourself now that the dreaded January is past half done, and the sun has shown its face for a bit. The fork tool is ingenious--which seems to be one of your middle names.
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt … I just looked at the invoice… it was more around 1,800 … my apologies… I’ve dropped the website down below … I think the waiting time for us was 11 months ….
How about a length of tube from the top of the windscreen down to the roof inside the pram cover? That would support the screen against strong / forward movement wind, and stop the pram's weight pulling the screen backwards. Yes?
Always a very interesting vlog James. When the pram hood is weathered a little i.e. exposed to sun over a period of time will improve its look even more. If you have kept a diary since the Slow Patrol project began what a book that would make. Happy Days James. Respect. Tony.

was wondering if you was going to put in a roof window and a back window just to let in some light and to see for when you have to go backwards -- it's looking good so far
Im no expert, i do need a pram hood for my boat, watching this i am thinking if those aluminium poles were twice as thick, maybe twice as easy to affix to, ok would be heavier, but also stronger 🤔
Cheers pal. I got the fabric online - I think it says in the comments or the video. It’s weathered quite well in the time I’ve had it. A bit faded on top but aren’t we all !!
Very glad to see you after such a long time. Also will be interested to hear more about the 57 footer. Re: the pram, it seems potentially dangerous not to be able to see out the back. And, of course I'd love to know what the gift is. Please stay well. Leigh
Such a long time!! I did a vid 6 days ago!!! The 57 footer is potentially interesting but currently needs lots of work. I will have a window out the back but it’s not exactly dangerous - the boat is nearly always moored up and I can move it when navigating. The gift was a candle stick holder and some earrings - I think they went down well. Take good care Leigh x

Wow james happy days your persistence amazes me mate. It's looking like a pram hood. You must be very pleased.

Some nice jumpers this week James 👍 Try using a hairdryer on the windscreen plastic. Can't wait to hear about your Liverpool trip.
Cheers for appreciating the knitwear this week - I love a good weave

Good job James but I’m a bit concerned about you getting the windscreen down for bridges etc.
So far all bridges have been passable
But there is one where I’ll have to remove the bolts so it pivots

January is not a lager drinking month for me - so yes the beers lasted Max but they’re all gone now. Thanks for the drinks my man
Looking good. You are putting in a lot of time and labor. When you finally get it done, I would like to know totals compared to hiring it out.
change the nuts on the bolt throw the rail to a wing nut to make taking it down for bridges quicker

James…? Where did you get 5 grand from…? I had my cover done and fitted at North Kilworth for 1,600 quid …

any news of Carol who was so much involved in the early days of your boat ?
Yes I speak to her regularly, she’s ok thanks. I’m hoping to go and see her this week as she lives next to a chandlery
