- In typical style we’ve left it to the eleventh hour to beat the scheduled and well published winter closures by the Canal and River Trust

Love it when you cruise especially as I’m a Kings Langley lad! Lots of happy memories around there.
Fenders, locks! Tut tut :D x
Also, going through with only one gate open and swiping the closed one.
They wonder why so many are leaking.
Brilliant navigating guys!
What a lovely bromance! I love how you and rob have become such good friends and all that through your love of your boats! Hope to see you guys very soon in the next vlog ! Xx
Many thanks James and Rob, great to watch the boats in action. Take care.
It’s so nice to have a friend along with you while you are boating.
Safety in numbers I always travel with friends boat is safe whilst I am at work
Locks on the rocks with narrow boat topping, well you call it “The Drink” for a reason.
Never a dull moment, Great cruise 👍
Your boat is looking good. Great job on the pram hood and wind screen. Your vlogs are fantastic, keep them coming. Thank you for sharing 😁
Glad you made your destination in time.
Good to see your on the move and learning a few tricks. A little tip for you, easiest way to carry your lock key is tucked into your belt in the small of your back. Once you set off keep it on you all the time and never put it down especially don’t leave it on a padded. Good luck and safe travels.
Thanks for the tip - I’ll give it a go
Hi James what a busy weekend you had. It was good that you did all you wanted to do. Have a great week. Take care. 😊
Thanks sandy - you too
Great cruise and teamwork. Brilliant. Best wishes to u both.
You 2 look so sweet together 😂 its good to have a good mate 👍...
Good to see that you got out. Now, about that hot water heater. (I can't believe you've not hooked that puppy up yet. I'd have hooked it up first thing. )
"A couple of quick lines"😯🤣
😂
Greetings from Denmark. I just found your channel and I must admit I love this episode quite a bit. I just love the relaxed sense of the video even though you had to run at the Eleventh hour to get out of the part that was being shut down :P
Hello there and greetings from the canals of England. I’m glad you found my channel and liked the video. They’re not all like this, sometimes there is some questionable boat building work taking place. Enjoy and thanks for the comment
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I am for sure going to look through your upload list :P I used to watch Cruisingthecut a lot but He have sold his boat and are only doing interviews and stories about the Cannels now adays so have been looking for a new channel to get my boat cruising fix from :P
I live in Hemel - so am familiar with the Grand Union from the far side of Tring right down to Hunton Bridge. I used to be a keen fisherman, but I don't and can't get around like I used to, - so it's fantastic to watch your videos & be able to see what's going on along the canal, - without actually being there in person. I always find your videos very interesting. Thankyou for sharing. Be Lucky. 😀👍
Always a pleasure to watch your vlogs good teamwork from a good mate ttfn till the next one 👍
I enjoyed the ride. Take care.
"Now I'll just do a couple of lines, and I'll be off!" o.O
😂
Loved the vblog James you and worked well together on the journey
Interesting.
As a Canadian it looks extremely busy..
And the water looks pretty dirty..
With the cover down, it gives it the ol Rolls Royce look. Lol!
I know right
Great Video James and great teamwork all the best
Big up from NYC
I’m flo and I’m checking for bad coments so don’t be rude!
Flo - I don’t think 10 year olds are allowed on non-child friendly videos. Someone should tell your father…….oh that’s me 😉
Nice cruising again.
Good 👍
Ran into Rob exactly the moment you left him with both boats by Fishery Wharf Cafe. All the best and probably catch you guys when you're back around Berko area...
Have to say, when you guys were coming out of Ansley, you look like Anthony Quayle on HMS Ajax and Rob looks like John Gregson on HMS Exeter in the movie ‘The Battle of the River Plate’! When running Serafina and Sloe Patrol abreast. 😊. With the pramhood down, Sloe looks like a 1932 Cadillac Roadster, very smart. Great Video!
OK I don’t know who any of those people are but no doubt Rob will do your comment isn’t entirely lost !!
I know what you mean about the pram hood - I was thinking of a Californian roadster too
Cheers bud
Yeh, well, the old man here knows all those people and I remember loving that film when I saw it as a kid. Was Jeff Chandler in it, Billy? He was one of my favourite action movie stars.
@@richardpos1 don't think he was. I love that movie. One of the things I like about it, is some of British cruisers from the actual battle are in the movie. The movie is older than I am but think it is a better naval film than most
Do you remember Away All Boats Away … another great navy war film …
@@richardpos1 you mean the great film about "Beach-head Belinda". Love that movie. Have you seen "In Harms Way?"
Best bit of mooring in Kings Langley is "Sweet as a Button" up on the high street 🍭🍬
Ooh yeah that place is sweet
i used a over the shoulder gun holder for my windless
Your vlogs are always worth waiting for . Having been with you since the start I have little more to say. Reading between the lines there is much we do not see with your family and work duties. Also the occasional mention of maybe a new romance, gas fitting......then no mention of either!!! However we have the story you wish to tell and I respect that. See you soon for more " happy days".
She made it onto the “best of last year vid” !! Things in that department are good thanks pal and yea the gas man is coming - change of personnel annoyingly
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt You have more patience than I for sure waiting for a gas man. You work so hard to support your kids James. It's a joy to see. It's not always easy to be a good father but you have made it so. Happy Days!
Great video! Love the part with you and Rob cruising alongside each other. You are lucky to have such a good friend. The voiceovers were great. Glad the double breasting cruising went well. Sloe Patrol looked really sharp! Thanks James for sharing.
🙏🤗😊 Kathy
Get that bloody water heater working! 🙄
Hi James. I used to work on deepsea tugs and what you call 'breasting' we would call 'hipping up:. Happy daze!
That’s a good term to know / thanks
Wayhay, another cruise! Brilliant. Those lock gates at 15:15 though - they need a bit of emergency attention. What was Bill the Conk doing in Berko? Probably lost his way round the M25.
I find it interesting that the government are becomeing more interested in canals as another source of taxation and control that all of this stuff is happening...
Hi James, can I ask a couple of questions? One how is the new water heater performing? ( I’ve just bought the 6lt version not fitted yet)… and 2 do you know anymore regarding the “Help for households” that boaters can claim yet? Cheers mate. Andrew
Andrew my answer to both is sadly I don’t know. My gas man is being tricky so I’m getting a new one so it’s NOT up and running yet. The 6 is just fine from what I’ve heard and is easier on the water pump too.
I have not heard anything about the winter fuel allowance and even the fuel guy didn’t know an update so I’m sorry I’m not much help there mate
I don't know why but with the pram hood down the back of your boat kinda reminds me a bit of the old Porsche 356 convertibles
great escape from Birkie. I love the T shirt you have on at the end. Where did you get it please. I would love to buy one for my boating friend.
I was given it as a gift but I’ll try to find out for you
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt very apt 😁. Appreciate that, thank you
💚💙💜
James, on "57"... Have you thought this through? Been debating with Pete over in Arizona, he's for it (mostly), me? Not so much. I'm wonderin' WHY the owner has neglected his "dream" boat to the point where it might be more value as scrap? If it were me, I'd take my rose tinted glasses off and consider "there's no such thing as a free lunch". Your call though, I'm just an armchair boater these days.
I’m surprised crt are not chasing you for overstaying good luck to you
We didn’t overstay in Berkhamsted, besides there was a closure behind us so the tend not to log boats around the closure as often they wait for the closure to end
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt the near fact that you have been to birkhamstead several times this year is against the rules you are supposed to move at least one kilometre every two weeks and not return going up and down the same patch as you call it is not allowed I’m not having a go if you can get away with it great but my experience is if I stay even a couple of days over I get the dreaded email from crt
hi James . any information on the winter allowance.
Annoyingly not yet. I could do with a few hundred quid
How long is Serafina compared Sloe patrol?
What happened to your chimney top?
The canal authority ought to clear out the abandoned / sunk boats.
A folding ebike would be a good thing to have if you need to get along the canals without the boat.
I have a folding bike but the towpaths are so muddy is more hassle than it’s worth
I Rob has got a battle scar on the side of his boat😢
He’s got a few - he wants to do some work on her this year
Question, is the roof fiberglass or metal? i noticed the curve top. Most seem to be just straight up your is curved, very nice.
The roof is curved to allow water to run off easily. Mine actually has a an angle in the middle and less of a curve
Any idea on what CRT are doing for the next few weeks? Is it vlog worthy? 😆
They’re doing LOADS. I must say their teams on the ground are brilliant. They are changing lock gates and wall repairs mainly. But filming them requires permission etc but I’ll take a few bits of the canal changes and machinery used
How long are the Serifina and your boat , Serafina looks to be really long.?
She is - serafina is 70” and mine is 43”
Please take a shower!
Thank you for a great video.
Didn’t realise just how small your boat is against Serafina James and why you are looking for a bigger one as the kids get bigger!!!! What’s the length of each of them? Is yours average length? Or is Serafina longer than average?
I know!!! Mine is 42” and his is 70”
The project 57 boat is 57”
Is Zerafina an electric boat? If so how does he charge batteries without solar?
She's a hybrid, I think James told some info about her propulsion when they were cruising into London last year.
@@weerwolfproductions 👍
Yes it’s a hybrid although that footage was diesel propulsion!! It’s a very quiet boat. Electric is silent and quite an experience
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt thank you James 👍
Does Rob have Solar?
No although he’s looking at getting some
james, isn't there the risk of rainwater getting down your stovepipe and into your wood-burning stove?? i wonder that i can't see an obvious fixture preventing water--and perhaps roaming elephants--from access down your stovepipe!! admittedly, you might leave the stovepipe very inviting only on xmas eve, but that's maybe ok, given a special consideration.
The jury is out whether a chimney hat is beneficial. Any rain soon that does land evaporates
I just don’t get people who moor on lock landings and on bends next to bridges, why do they ever think it’s a good idea? Especially when there’s plenty of places to moor up
One guy we spoke to and suggested he didn’t stop there was so aggressive and defensive - they know what they’re doing is wrong. Nearly crashed a couple times too !!
wow empty..a little creepy
so he ng on boat on canal is fine.
