@@arbiter8246 I was commenting on how I appreciated how he brought up the topic [people snapping when alone with a crying baby] as it's something I never thought about until right before I was a father. I didn't have the worry "will I snap when I'm alone with the baby?" .....instead, the state my kids were born in required that new parents take a class about 'purple crying', which I hadn't heard about until then. It was a class explaining, essentially, how to respond to a baby that won't stop crying. They suggested things parents could do if they couldn't get their newborn to stop crying or arent able to soothe then... things like 'if the baby making you feel angry because of it's crying, make sure the baby is in a safe place, like their crib, then....take a shower. take a smoke break. take them mins to yourself." ......the class was required because, far too often, new parents feel like failures when they can't soothe their child (which, at times, won't be possible. Being a baby hurts and is traumatic.), the parent feels like a failure and....will lash out at their child. Shake the baby or otherwise try to silence it. happen too much and it's nice to hear someone say they understand the feeling... since it's such a dark, "not what a parent should say" topic.
This happened to my son, and I bonded with the child as it's grandma, and a year later the DNA paternity test proved he was not the father. Then the mother started stalking us after we told her where to shove it.
Voidaken I think it was more complicated in the 60's. Now if you're not married, you can ask for a DNA test. But at any rate, there are many babies throughout history that aren't legitimate. Promiscuity is common in both sexes.
Voidaken That's excessive. Sometimes you honestly don't know without a DNA test. And it's hard to prove who knew what. Waste of taxpayer dollars. How about people date and marry at their own risk?
Voidaken She certainly should be honest, it's bad to lie about and it's horrible to purposely get pregnant to someone to trap him, too. Those things are terrible, I just don't think they should be illegal. If you're unmarried and a paternity suit is brought against you, the state pays for the DNA test unless it's a match, then the defendant pays. No one who's unmarried has to acknowledge paternity, although they should definitely tell people it's binding to sign the paper, I don't think they always do. It's not a good situation for fathers who aren't sure. They're fucked if they're married or signed the paternity acknowledgement. In those cases, it doesn't matter if it's not theirs, it's still legally theirs. I think it's that way so families have to stay intact. You'd basically have to outlaw cheating, which sounds like a bad idea.
Sometimes women don’t do their part to actually definitively prove who the father is either to manipulate or because of a lack of resources. Regardless there shouldn’t be criminal consequences. Men who don’t want to father children and don’t want to be responsible for ones who aren’t there’s can do a lot to prevent it.
Women can never understand how terrifying the thought of the kid not really being yours is. Any time I am in the pharmacy and I see that shelf of home paternity tests a chill runs up my spine. I think one of the worst things is those videos where a guy confronts the woman after he found out the kid (who is often 10+ years old at that point) isn't his. The woman always acts like it is really not a big deal.
Man, all that opens up some new opportunities. 8:50 opie's hack side kick douche says "They didn't have DNA?" imagine such a question from a grown man.

In Switzerland if the woman is not married she can't claim child support from the father and the father has zero parental rights. I know this because my friend in Switzerland got his gf pregnant and he would have had to adopt his own child or marry her if he wanted any legal rights to his kid. They're married and now have three kids. Cool system.
Where's the incentive for the guys not to get anyone pregnant that they don't want to have a child with? Women generally have to do the heavy lifting where birth control is concerned, but it should be a shared responsibility at least where financial consequences are concerned. Unless the father is seriously wealthy, having a baby is never a good deal for women anyway (reduced earnings potential and flexibility, zero free time, reduced chances to find a new relationship..)
It's a tough call. I was in a similar situation with my father saying the same thing. She continued the lie, unchallenged for 10 years until her mother told me the truth. After that, I continued to take on the role of father but felt financially, my contributions should no longer be state mandated but rather at my discretion.
Statistically, and I forget where I read this but one can look it up, 10% of children are sired by someone else than who the mother claims is the father.
To prevent heartbreaking situations like these, there out to be a public way for a man and woman to promise not to cheat on each other. Then couples could wait to have intercourse until such a promise was entered into. That way, when a woman has a baby, the man knows it is his. In addition, the child would then grow up with both parents there, ensuring they are raised with both masculine and feminine influences. I know I'm just spitballing here, but any ideas on what we can call such an a arrangement?
I know a guy that raised a kid that wasn't his until he went off to college and thats when the mother told him that he wasn't his, the actual father had gotten locked up right after impregnating her.
