Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and mother figures! Question of the Day: Do you celebrate Mother's Day in your county? If so, when is it and how do you celebrate?
Jen, it is so fascinating to see you when you were little, how smart you had to be, that all your viewers can now understand that you do so wonderfully well your teachings of everything you know and explain it with such a great precision. Congratulations for being such a good teacher.👍💖🍁 All the mothers of this world, even if they are no longer in our presence, deserve that their children feel proud of them, since they were our main protectors and from them, we learned the most important things in our lives. Our best memory for them!💖
we celebrate mother's day on May, 10th here in Chile, and we'd usually give them presents such as flowers or treat them to dinner, at school kids write cards decorated their own saying how thankful they are with em and how much they love them. p.s: i love ur videos, you literally help people so much to improve their english, I'd like it if you made more videos about Canada, like another one about canadian slang, Canadian pronunciation, etc.
Thank you for your comment from Chile, Martin. ☺️ It seems both our countries have similar traditions for Mother's Day. Thanks for your suggestion for making more 'Canadian content'. I will keep this in mind while preparing future videos. (I was working on a Canadian Taboo lesson with a friend before the pandemic... not sure when / we'll get to film it) In the meantime, if you haven't already seem some of my other Canadian celebrations and culture lessons, I put them in in this playlist which you may enjoy: ua-cam.com/play/PLktdXyVCSbc9-bM3cZtOpBauKnR34cM8D.html 🇨🇦
Wow u show many childhood pics here👍🏻 you are lucky that had kind Mum and mother-in law👍🏻 you grown in a loving family that make u become a happy girl! We would treat mom dinner and give her flowers and jewelry
Hi Jo Li 😎 I am very fortunate and grateful to have had many wonderful and influential women in my life. 😍 I realize that not everyone is as lucky as I am, but I just wanted to share about Mother's Day in Canada and express my appreciation to my mother at the same time through this video. 💐 Dinner, flowers, and jewelry are all great ways to celebrate important mother-figures. 🌸
Thanks Jen! without your lessons I can not improve my English. I need you to improve my English. You are the teacher I like the most because you have a strong desire and passionate heart to help me improve my English. I pray that you will be more blessed.
In my country we celebrate mother's day every 10th in May no matter what day was . It's not common celebrate to mothers in law but everybody have their traditions. I liked Your photos too 😄
It's interesting that the date for Mother's Day doesn't change in your country, but great that it is celebrated. 👍🏻 Thanks for your comment. (PS. everybody HAS 😉)
Here in Brazil we celebrate it too, and it's in the same day as it's in Canada, second Sunday in May. Usually here we just take quality time together, and have a great and big lunch and afternoon coffee. Specifically in my house, we gather in about 12 people, because grandma and two of my aunts live across the street.
@@matheuspoerner6921 For the most part your comment is perfect, however we don't say 'take' quality time, it should 'spend'. Spend quality time together. Also, don't forget 'my' in front of grandma. (In addition the most natural way to say, 'we gather in about 12 people' would be "about 12 of us gather.")
I was wondering if you liked reading classic literature. And if so, are there books that you’d recommend? What do you think of the way people used to speak back in the day?
Thanks for your question. I love reading and now is a great time to read since we have more time at home. Personally, I like thrilling books with suspense, or novels that really make you stop and think. For classics, I really love Brave New Word by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell, Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, and William Shakespeare: "King Lear" for tragedy, or "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for comedy (Actually, I am a fan of Shakespeare and his contemporaries like Ben Jonson and Christopher Marlowe). For classics that I love which are easier to read, I recommend The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, or any of O' Henery's short stories. Depending on what your definition of what back in the day is, I find that reading Shakespeare or Marlow isn't as difficult as people think it is (I am a native English speaker though, so for others it may be super challenging.) I love the stories and how poetic the language can be. However, going further back: Geoffrey Chaucer (The Canterbury Tales) is like trying to read a different language. It's shocking to see how much English has changed in just over 600 years! (Actually, I find that reading Chaucer only makes sense to me if I read it aloud with a strange kind of Scottish accent 😅) What's your favourite classic literature?
JeN's Jyugyou / ジェンの授業 I thought you were gonna say that reading Chaucer made no sense unless you had a bottle of Scottish whiskey :D I read most of the books you’ve mentioned and I agree that those are great reads! Recently, I’ve read ‘Martin Eden’. It was challenging though I was so into the plot and the language that I couldn’t put the book away. ‘Little women’ - another book that’s deep in my heart! Have you heard of ‘The Humans’ by Matt Haig? I think you’re gonna love it!
Maybe Scottish whiskey would make Chaucer easier, haha 😆 Little Women is good! Oh, poor Beth. Thank you for your recommendation. I had never heard of The Humans before, but I Googled it and read the summary. You're right, it sounds like a good book. I'll have to check it out. (Recently I just started reading a new book called Woman on the Edge by Samantha Bailey.)Not sure why, but I suddenly though of Empire of the Ants by Bernard Werber which I think is also a very interesting novel.
JeN's Jyugyou / ジェンの授業 You know what? It’s getting a little odd, for it feels like I wasn’t the only one using that bookcase :D I love the book on the ants!!!
Hello Makki, thank you for your lovely comment ☺️. (PS. My husband is Japanese and when I first signed a letter to him with XOXO at the end, he was very confused 😅)
I know your husband's feeling when he got your lettter with a letter X, which means not good in Japan (^^;) But what a lovely story!! By the way I recommend you put "英語 or 英会話, etc ." on the title of your UA-cam Channel. Your videos so nice for English learners in Japan. The Japanese would type 英語, etc to search videos, I think. Hi, Jen, I really love your classes and also the name "ジェンの授業”. To tell the truth, I recently uploaded many videos for junior high school students who can't go to school because of Corona virus. Finally I found each title of my each video doesn't have a word 英語, though there is "English" instead. I added a word 英語 on the title of each video so that anyone can check it next to thumbnails. Popular UA-camrs relating English Education for Japanese give their each video an understandable title like "英語で道を聞かれたら/Giving directions" or "I don't care.とI don't know.の違い、英会話”. That kind of titles is rather easier to serach for as well as to find the contents of the videos for Japanese. My explanation could be too bad. Don't care so much about it. I'm looking forward to seeing your next video!! xoxoxo by Makki
Your explanation is good, thank you ☺️ It seems that recently you have created many videos to help students 👍🏻 I love your passion for helping others improve their English. ❤️ (PS. I feel bad correcting a fellow teacher, but you can't use 'each' and another pronoun directly together. Also, 'each' means that there is more than one of something so the noun should be plural: ["of my each video" = "of each of my videos" / "of all my videos"] ["give their each video" = "give each of their videos" / "give their videos"] 😅)
Hi Donatello, I vaguely remember. Actually, before I thought you were from Russia, but then you told me that you're from China.
