    Question of the Day: Please tell me something interesting about the money in your county. (For example: What is the name of your currency? Do you have any special names for your coins like we do in Canada? Who/ what is on the heads and tails side of your coins? What / who is on the banknotes in your country? ) I look forward to learning a bit about your country's currency. 💸

      I'm from the Dominican Republic, the name of our currency is the Peso (Dominican Peso, DOP), we do not have cents coins. We have one, five, ten, and twenty-five peso coins. We also have 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2000 peso banknotes, each denomination with a different color. We had a twenty-peso banknote that was made of polymer, but since the others were made of paper, the twenty-peso one would take the rest out of your pocket, it was very funny until you lost your money on the street, that's why they stopped doing them.

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  4 роки тому +2

      @@MrMAIRENEE That's very interesting! 🤗 Thank you so much for sharing about money in the Dominican Republic. 🇩🇴 I am very surprised that they made a 20 peso banknote while there is a 25 peso coin. I've never heard of a country having one of their coins be more valuable than one of their banknotes. 😄 Also sorry to hear that people lost money due to having one polymer banknote while the rest were still paper. I hope that didn't happen to you personally. 💸
      I am curious though as to why they stopped making the polymer banknote and just continue with paper banknotes...wouldn't it make more sense to convert all banknotes to polymer since polymer banknotes last longer and are more secure (so in the long run it would save the government more money) ? 🤔

      Hi Jen I am Aneesh from Kerala, India. Our currency is rupee , the symbol is ₹. We have coins like, 1,2,5,10 rupees and bank notes ( in your words bill) 5,10,20,50,100,500,2000. One rupee is equal to 54 (approximate) Canadian dollar. In our bank notes only one man, that is "Mahatma Gandhi". We called him as "Father of our nation".

    What I love about the Loonie is that the general public named the dollar coin , not the government. When it was first introduced, there were a lot of protests about replacing the dollar bill by a coin; people called it a loony(crazy) idea and started to. call the coin a Loony. The nickname stuck, and the name Loonie was then officially given to the coin.

    "Nickels" are so called because they used to be made of nickel, until it started to cost more than 5 cents to make one, and the metal was changed to steel.
    And remember the front of the coin is "heads" and the back is "tails"
    If you look through the little translucent maple leaf at a point source of light - sunlight reflecting off a round surface, or a little christmas light, if you look through there or shine a laser through it, it will have the value of the bill (5, 10, 20, etc.) that you can see (or project if you used a laser).

    Thank you for your informative and interesting video, it helps to know more things about canadian everyday life as well as learning English! I have a question, I'm sorry if you already explained that in one of your videos, but apparently in Canada when you go to the supermarket taxes are not indicated on the price of the product. So how do you do to predict what exact price you are going to pay for at the end ? Do the taxes depend on the province or territory, how do you do if you don't have your cellphone to calculate if you have several products ? Doesn't seem easy ^^

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for your comment and interesting question, Abby 🤩. You're right, when you are shopping in Canada, the price if the item doesn't include tax. I am terrible at math and can rarely predict the exact price I'll need to pay for an item. It isn't easy to figure out.
      I'm not sure about all of Canada, but in Ontario we used to have two types of taxes when paying for items. We had GST (Goods and Services Tax) and PST (Provincial Sales Tax). But now for the most part since 2010, the taxes are now combined into one tax called HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) which is + 13%. In addition, not everywhere in Canada is the same. Our provinces and territories have different tax rates when purchasing items which range from 5% - 15%. 🇨🇦
      I hope that helps. 🤗

      To be honest, I had no idea that 'two bits' referred to a quarter. I have only ever heard the expression in the song, 'Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits' 😆
      Also, I have actually never heard the terms 'fin' for a five dollar bill or 'saw buck' for a ten dollar bill (I've never even heard the word 'saw buck at all to be honest, but wonder if it has some connection to how we use 'bucks' as slang for dollars?).💰 I wonder if fin and a saw buck are mostly used regionally in your neck of the woods? What part of Canada are you from? 🇨🇦

    Bitcoin is the future of Crypto and the question traders ask themselves now is if this is Right time to invest ? Before jumping into conclusion I think you should take a look at things first . For the past few days the price of BTC has been fluctuating which means the market is currently unstable and you can't tell if it's going to bearish or bullish . While others still continue to trade without the fear of making lose , others are been patient . it all depends on the pattern with which you trade and also the source of your strategy .

    Young Lady JeNsJyugyou. Once again you did a great job explaining your video about Canadian dollar coins and notes. I had the opportunity to study in Toronto (Ontario) in 2009 - 2010 at the Omnicom School of Languages. At that time coins and notes were very different. Thank you very much for your video with detailed, curious and precise explanations of your money. A toast to Canada and Brazil. Long live the Canadian Dollar and the Brazilian Real (Royal). Greetings and see you in your next video. Rubens Leffer De Liz Santos, Florianópolis (SC), Brazil.

Although over a decade has passed now, I hope you enjoyed your time here in Toronto and were able to make many great memories🇨🇦🇧🇷. The banknotes from that time sure have changed a lot, and since the Queen has passed away now, all the coins will be changing again soon🤴. I might have to update this video after that 😅.
