Hiya Simon, you picked a good day for street shooting! Wandering round the city core with a couple mates, coffee, doughnuts, a good Asian bowl....who needs a camera?! My challenge, and least favourite 'tip' on your list would be to embrace the chaos. That will be something I try when next I venture into the concrete jungle. I'm on the same page with Andy who has lived here in Toronto a long time and finds it challenging to see it with fresh eyes. (I'd rather be in Muskoka...)
Hey Ted! I agree, dealing with chaos is a challenge, be it in a city or a woodland. I think we'd all rather be in Muskoka, need to plan a trip there soon!
Gods ideas and interesting TO tour, Simon. It kind of animated my memories of Toronto and you walked through one of my old neighbourhoods. Surprisingly, I haven't a great deal of street work from that time ... probably because I spent most of my time cooped up in the studio. Good to see most "street" conventions avoided. That tall gold building -- hard to avoid that. First time I saw it was when I met my future TO roommate and studio colleague (in Vancouver)--that was prominent in his portfolio. Anyway, good stuff. Thanks for dropping by Ray! I too once had a studio in Toronto, yet never spent any time wandering around shooting in the city. I guess we tend to take things for granted. It's changed a lot over the years, I barely recognize some spots now with the rapid development. I enjoy wandering around cities and towns, but do try to avoid the popular clichés of what street photography should be. Cheers!
That was excellent Simon, although I think you could have made more of the donuts/food..... Some great tips that I will try to apply when I'm wandering aimlessly around UK towns & cities.
