Great job on the install. I've installed a ton of those kits on John Deere 4r series tractors. I can honestly say I don't think I could have done a better job. The kit does also work on open station 4r tractors as well.
I have a 2006 4320 John Deere open cab do you know if they make a kit for that? I would like to put one on there but I don't want to use the aftermarket one.
Great job on the install! Grapples are a great tool, and investment for sure. You probably already know this, but your particular grapple is a rake grapple. Open completely, and dump or roll bucket cylinders all the way down, allowing the top portion of grapple to contact ground, then back up raking as you reverse. Really does a super job cleaning trash/ debris/ small limbs. 👍
Great video, Andrew. I'm sure it's gonna help some JD folks hook theirs up! That grapple is like another set of hands. Can't believe how wide the grip is. Your tractors become a whole nother machine! Awesome!
As always you did an awesome job with the grapple function install, the grapple modification and the video. You do a phenomenal job at everything that you do. That thing is going to get tons of use.
Good work Andrew. I did mine just the opposite, ran to the rear and made hoes to go to the quick connects in the middle. One point is that there are o-ring seals for the solenoid valve where it is mounted to the loader valve. Yours appear to have remained in the loader valve so that is the seal. Sometimes they stick to the cap you removed. New seals are not part of the kit for some reason but the kit doesn't tell you to check them either.
Great job Andrew. I had my 3rd function installed before I picked it up at the dealership, but sure helps to know how to do it for future use. Good luck with the grapple.
@@TKCL I’ve done the “quick fix” several times, rolling the steering wheel as far to the left and right, and adding steering fluid. I’ve got a leaky seal, so I’ve got to to the full change out after I replace it
Holy moly 😮 that grapple is huge..... Not only that your going to be able to clean up a lot of things. I wonder if it will pick up round hay bales 🤔🤔🤔.
Well done Andrew. You probably handled some tubing that my Brother in-law and or his Son made. They work at Co. Here in Central Wis that Forms boat Loads of Complicated Tubing bends for JD. and Others to boot. Lot of military Equipment too. Mike M.
You made that install look like you were a Deere mechanic and did it all the time. Now you'll be setting up your cut logs so you can pick them up easier...I won't be surprised if you do a video on just that - how best to use the grapple... :)
Well congrats sir now you can do alot more with that grapple, that thing is going to make some jobs so much easier now that you don't have to get out and load it in the bucket and have you given any thought adding some wheel weight's to help and not have anything hooked up to the back when you took the tire off and said it was full of water i said oh i know that pain removing and installing OTR tires is one part of my job and i also deal with earth mover tires as well. Great job sir can't wait to see you really give it a workout.
Looks like its workin good. A lot of movement in them hydro lines up front when your activating the hyrdo. Perhaps a few of those spiral wraps they sell and see if you cant tie some to the grapple a bit to avoid all that slop. They are cheap on Amazon and have seen them used by several other channels (out of the Woods) to help dampen movement of hoses. All that movement will absolutely wreck those crimped fittings prematurely.
I can imagine having something that big on the front of your tractor takes a little bit of practice time to get good at. Give it a little while. I'm sure you'll master it.
Thank you so much Andrew for making this video. You did a excellent job of explaining it. I have a John Deere 4320 open station I wonder if the kit would work on mine? Have the hydrostatic transmission but I don't think I have the power beyond I have have the rear function hooked up to a tilt cylinder. For the 3 point hitch. But I don't know if I can hook up a grapple I want that grapple you got. I don't know if it's too big for my tractor though thank you so much for explaining I'll watch the entire video and it was amazing man thank you
The open station kits are different, you'd have to contact John Deere service department for the quote. May in suggest Summit Hydraulics. They specialize in open station kits and are about half the money of a John deere kit.
You said the wiring for the valve is factory pre-wired. Is it clearly labeled or identifiable? Enjoyed your video. Very informative! Finally found both kits and about to install.
I honestly can't remember the label. I do remember it was the only one that would fit. A very straight forward process. I'm about to be adding 4th and 5th scvs.
@@TKCL there was a tornado that hit yesterday evening about 14 miles from where I live. A small tractor with a way to handle brush is perfect for that application. Don’t tear up the yards like a skid steer or other heavy equipment.
Happen to know if you can run the Lane Shark cutter with this setup? I have looked high and low but can’t find anything showing the 4066r hooked to a lane shark. Lane Shark sells the WR Long kit for this tractor but don’t want to give up my factory joystick for that grapple switch that I plan to get. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
You can't because I looked at that myself. You need a specific setup that dumps directly back to the sump. Apparently you run into hydraulic overheating issues if you run it like this. The best way to run one of those is with a power pack on the rear pto, but it gets very expensive that way.
@@TKCL thanks for the input. That helps a little. I know lane shark has the WR Long kit for my tractor but I don’t want all that add-on stuff. Wanted to stay as factory as I could.
@@adambecton you're going to need one of their kits for this to run properly and not overheat your tractor. I gave up on it and just invested in a mini excavator and brush cutter. Expensive, but I have many other uses for the excavator. Limb cutting is one of the biggest reasons I bought it though.
Good job Andrew, I have an open station 4066R with a 440R MSL loader coming. The grapple I am contemplating is 1000 lbs with 47” bottom rake. I was concerned about so much weight out front of the loader pins as I’ll only have 1400 lbs of lift capacity left. So, I was wonder what the weight of your grapple is?
Andrew, I have an open station 4066R coming and the grapple I am contemplating is 1000 lbs. How much does yours weigh. I’ve skimmed through videos and comments trying to determine that.
Wow that's extremely heavy, I'm guessing mine is 800lbs, but that's a guess. Personally I'd be installing a 500lb range grapple to get your lifting capacity back.
I had thought the same and actually had an Artillian Grapple-Rake-Grapple set up ordered and just about shipped and they called me back and said the 4 series 4066R was too much tractor for their grapple and after much discussion we agreed to mutually cancel the order. The one I’m looking at is the 72” EZ Grapple from CLFab out of Iowa. I’m thinking that if I do purchase it I should get it as a skid steer attachment, then buy the adapter to JDQA and that way “if” it is just too much or I am disappointed in performance then I could be able to sell it to a skid steer owner. If I have them put the JDQA mount on it then it is relegated to only a compact tractor. I’m not sure if 5 series tractors have the JDQA set up. If not then that means the largest 4 series tractor can’t handle it then I have the worlds most expensive paper weight.
Hey Andrew, thanks for your videos, I find them very helpful and entertaining. I recently purchased a JD 4066m heavy duty. I've been a New Holland (tc45da) guy for many years but have been noticing how many folks like their JD so I made the switch. I'm a landscaper for new construction so I do a lot of loader work and wanted to get your option about something. I consider myself to be very efficient with the loader but noticed that the JD loader doesn't move but one direction at a time. If you are raising the bucket with a load of dirt or stone and you want to also dump as you are raising you don't that ability, is this the case with your 4066R? Is this common with John Deere? With my New Holland I could be moving the tractor forward of reverse while raising and dumping all at the same time. I didn't even consider that this would not be a industry standard. Thanks for your thoughts! Michael
Not the case for me, I have the non self leveling 440r loader and can manipulate the dump, curl directions anyway I want while lifting or lowering. Do you have the self leveling loader?
Started to install my JD kit and found the port taken by “Hitch Assist”. Hard line in kit will only fit the port you installed it in. Remove/cap Hitch Assist? Move Hitch Assist to middle port? “T” hitch assist and install JD 3rd function kit as built?
Good morning Andrew. This may be a strange question but you'll know the answer. I was catching up on videos and watch the one with the grapple which I commented on. And you mentioned you put water in your tractor tires. I don't have a lot of experience with tractors, so my question is by chance on a really cold morning can the water freeze in the tires? 🤷. Hey you don't know if you don't ask. 😁
They make a liquid antifreeze ballast that most people use in colder climates. I'd imagine that is also in mine. Regardless does not stay cold enough long enough here to freeze that much water in my tires.
@Nature Nut I have a 4066R coming and they are going to put Beet (yes the vegetable) juice in my tires. I am in Missouri and it most definitely freezes here.
