  • Microfiber pillow and mattress encasings used to prevent the escape of allergen may be "Woven" (woven on a loom from microfiber yarns and filaments) or "Non-Woven" (made of randomly overlapped filaments glued and heat compressed). Felt--although not a microfiber--is an example of a non-woven fabric. This video illustrates that non-woven microfiber encasings actually allow dust mite penetration and allergen accumulation, making them unsuitable for allergen-avoidance.

      No, you need a microscope. These images were at 40X magnification. Note also that I am using dust mite cultures; you could not see this number of mites in a natural sample of dust.
