Yay. Me too. I've flown one of just about everything over the years, but I always come back to soaring. Whether it's off a slope or on the flat, what I love about gliders is being able to get really intimate with the atmosphere. Powered models earn their keep by smashing the air aside; it's a nuisance; it gets in the way. But a glider lets you feel your way up into the clouds. It's incredibly peaceful, satisfying, and rewarding. I sometimes think that screaming, noisy powered planes are meant for screaming, noisy pilots. Little kids. A glider's a toy for grown-ups. "Softly, softly, catchee thermal..." :-)
Those F5J's hold on to their energy as if they actually use power all the time. Majestic! Too bad those planes are much too big for me to transport. If that wasn't an issue I would have had one already!
I thought for sure the dude flying the annoying mosquito (guessing warmline/hotliner?) was going to mid-air the 2PK :( Nice-looking F5J... saw them at the WC in Slovakia- Samba was gracious with their time and let me pour over one between rounds.
What a garbage design. That cambered fuselage with the downward pointing nose to ensure that every landing is a jolting stop that shock loads the wings rather than a gentle slide.
I was just about to say the same thing: this is a tool designed for a very specific task. You wouldn't buy a Formula 1 car to go rock-crawling or camping in the mountains. There are plenty of general-purpose glider designs out there for people (like me!) who just want to catch thermals. And I don't think you need to be worried about the wings suffering from shock loads every time the pilot thumps it into the spot-landing circle. If you've ever seen any 'angry' competition winch launches you'll know what a ridiculous amount of punishment and abuse a composite wing can take. :-)
Excellent flight, love to watch these big gliders.
Cheers
Big step up in design for Samba as far as 5J specific design features. Looks good, should be a winner!
The new sailplane are very nice looking and fly well, but does anyone build anymore?
For F5J not really, but I and many of my friends build sport sailplanes. Built up, foam core, etc...
@@flightcomp Makes me want to fly my old Dodgson Windsong and Saber.. Thanks for the video...
May I ask what motor and prop you are using? Thank you.
Long time ago, but I think it was a Mega 16/15/5 direct drive and a 10x6 prop.
It sounds like you have a serious mosquito problem on that field.
Those flying dentist drills are the main reason I stick with chuck gliders.

What a beauty

Maurice Wijma you fly f3k?
Gliding ratio?
lol the contrast, silent giant vs. tiny mosquito
Hahahaha!!!
Regarding Center of Gravity, maybe it was intended to have an ultralight motor installed, if you don't already?
wonder how much height you could get from a bungee launch?
Throwing is fun and more challenging.
Thats for sure a floater and penetrator best things ever for a glider
Nice
And did that plane came with transmitter and receiver or you bought it
Plane does not come with any electronic components.
Then where did you get the transmitter and receiver for your plane
Wow nice thermalling glider were do you fly which country and city
I'm from Southern California in the USA. I fly all over California.
That is awesome
Hi there did you build that plane or you bought it
Hi, info about the plane is at f3j.com
So did you buy the plane
Can you give me a link website like where did you buy the plane please
Cause i want to know where did you get the plane or where did you buy the plane please
Looks pretty nice..... Did you ever get it far enough away to tell you anything about the new antenna placement? Almost as nice as a Vertigo! LOL
Lol, yes in Hollister. Got several lockouts. I pulled then antennas out a bit more. I'll try that before I make any changes.

Why is the nose bent downwards? It looks weird and on each landing the motor is staking into the ground.
It's designed that way to spear into the ground for competition spot landings.
Ooooooooooo Yeeeeeeeeeeee 🤘
Someone's really jamming the tunes in the background.
How much will that setup set me back?
josh freund in Europe they will be 2200 € empty, so you have to buy the servo,s, the motor, etc that will be a1000 €! Pfahhhhhhh..........
@@laurensbeerendonk2832 - Yep. As with all of life's nice things: if you need to ask, 'How much?" it means you can't afford it! ;-)
@@EleanorPeterson not necessarily true, was just inquiring...i bought one shortly after..yup, roughly 3k usd ready to fly
Muito maneiro legal demais, meus parabéns pelo voo demais...
That mosquito in the background ruined the entire video for me. I'm out before you finished.
me too
I don't if it is the Camara or the plane, but it looks as if the nose has a bow down
It is down. Common design feature for contest landings.
Looks dirty when you hold it
if you could just thermal out from a flat field
it just means you are at true airfield
Murder Hornets!!!
Bloody wasp!

Jolting shock? Its lands at about a half a mile an hour
, That noise is unbearable… it is too horrible
