For the price it's cheaper than my first UV5R ! There some other cool things I am learning with firmware it can become a more versatile radio with wattage adjustments. I ordered another just to play around with some remote radio management this may be able to do. Going to put it on the SA and watt meters to see how it performs ! 73
Mine comes tomorrow and im more excited for this than when i got my kenwood d74. Not sure why but i just think it seems like a nice useable piece of kit i wont be scared to take out and use.
I hope you enjoy it...also use the card website to get the latest firmware in your download the programming software bundle. I'll be putting more videos out on this radio !
@Nitrocotromano, Hi, if you a GMRS license, and are using any GMRS radio such as the H3 or H8 on GMRS, there is nothing to setup. Turn it on, if it needs charging do so, choose any one of the twenty-two channels, listen/talk. Most folks listen/talk on channel 20. GMRS radios come already set up with twenty-two FCC approved GMRS channels 1-22. Notice I mentioned Channels numbers, GMRS references channel numbers not frequencies; however, each channel is of course on an FCC dedicated frequency. On the Ham side of these radios, you must have an Amateur Radio license, we reference frequencies not channels. Read the manual, do not lose the manual. With GMRS the only non-intuitive part is repeaters. For your location find a club, another GMRS user, and the like, to assist you with repeaters, some are open to everyone, others we need permission to use them. Also, there are many UA-cam videos on these radios, how to use, menu system, repeater use, and the like. Have fun. GMRS is Easy-peasy lemon-squeezy.
Just a word ,, You CANNOT update the firmware with the USB cable. The program chip for the USB is built into the radio. It work just fine using the "K" plug programmer. With the program chip built in and the power off , the computer will not see a port if you use the USB cable. This is ONLY for firmware updates.
I’ve been using the USB-C to successfully update the firmware on all four of my H3’s multiple times. I made sure to use to USB-C cable that came with the kit.
I received my H3 about a month ago. I'm new to amateur radio. So far I am loving the H3. It's very clear and loud. The controls are pretty easy to figure out. If I can get it anyone can.
Be careful, when using the Bluetooth the radio resets itself to Chinese language, even when going from GMRS to Ham, the radio will flip to Chinese language and you have to go to menu 33 to change it back. Also when programming from software you have to make sure you pick English every time. I found transmitting weak I can receive but not hit the repeater to trip it to work, sad I cannot use this unit
Create a Odmaster account, your settings will be backed up to their servers. Using your phone or the web they sync together, an excellent reason for creating an account.
@@EricTechstuffs awesome! I haven't messed with the firmware on mine yet, so I'm interested to see what you present. I haven't seen anyone else do anything very comprehensive on that; only showing how to update it. The more data points we can get from independent sources, the better. Thanks for taking the time!
Just when I say I’m not buying another HT… something like this happens Lol. Great video and a nice looking radio!

I wish someone would make a post on how to set these up for walkie-talkie use.
Yes I'm getting my gmrs license, newbie here, how would one set these radios up for walkie-talkie use, thanks in advance.

@@nunosapunso6239 Agree, not an issue updating firmware on my two H3. My firmware is 240817.
Just received two & two more on way!
That is great ! I am impressed !

Bricked it using baofeng cable.
It woul dbe nice if they added a M.SDcard slot for easy programming and backups. 240229 equals 2024-02-29, or Febuary 29, 2029.
That would be a really cool feature ! I am sure it will come with time !

Love my H3. Definitely some room for improvement though!
Awesome! Also check the updated firmware that is bundled with the programming software. When this is unlocked... It's transmits more than most radios.
That battery pack looks like it uses two 18650 lithium batteries. Someone should make a pack that holds replacement ones.
@@Inkling777 that is a really good idea !

Okay, what about UHF line of site issues? Recall our Earth is not flat, and UHF frequencies do not bend well.
What about spectral purity? Many (but not all) CCP radios are terrible.
I'll be doing an upcoming video on that and power out ! I am curious as well ! Thanks !
The tests that have been done show it just shy of passing to just barely passing.... it's a lot cleaner than most ccp's.
@@vitogriffin8902 thanks ! I am going to put them through the paces and the latest firmwares available

@@vitogriffin8902 There are a plethora of UA-cam videos testing and demonstrating the H3 as being clean.
