Xavi Hernández is a self proclamed fan of Scholes. Even in here in Spain we think Paul is one of the best of his generation.
And he played against him in a great united side, what, once??? Can Xavi explain why Scholes ran away from the England set up when he knew he was going to have to play second fiddle to Gerrard / Lampard???
@@neillynch_ecocidologist Because he knew England was going to win fuckall with Lampard and Gerrard in midfield and he was right. England's greatest generation wasted because Lamps and Stevie G couldn't control games.
@@neillynch_ecocidologist because sven gon eriksen was the manager and he was clueluess, 😂😂😂bitter muppet hahahahaha the great football minds fergie and pep pick scholes, no wonder england won fuckall😂😂😂
@@neillynch_ecocidologist Scholes never run away. Managers always tried to bring him back, but he refused. He never liked to stay away from his family during international tournaments, and since he was getting into his 30s, he knew he could no play so much during a season (remember his asthma and his eye problem, that usually got worse the more he played).
@@Henry-sd7vd Yup. Even small teams would run circles around the midfield against England those days of Lamps and Steve G
Paul Scholes was always appreciated abroad more than he was appreciated in England.
He was asked a question years back, when Barca faced Utd in the CL, about which Man Utd player he would like to have in his team, he said Scholes without hesitation.
In England they are obsessed with goal scoring no matter how rigid the midfielder is, he'll be the best for them.
@@dranthony1882 Metronomic players like Pirlo, Modric, Xavi dont come around very often. Scholes was in the same mould, best English player of the last 20 years. Only one that is similar in terms of achievements in Rooney. Lampard, Gerrard top class scorers and assists but technically Scholes was the best he carried the tempo of the game. You don't win 11 premier league and 2 CLs for an english side, it's unheard of.
Because brits like more crude fighting rather than skill. This is why today some people are asking midfielders to fight some more... Whereas in Spain they ask for more finesse and skill. Scholes had skill and could have played for Barca or Real if he wanted to
English people know fuxk all
Pep has always praised scholes, before 2009 and 2011 CL finals he said he wished could have scholes in his team, he called him a midfield genius
The way Scholes scanned the pitch is only matched by the best in his business like Xavi and Pirlo. He adds to that with his presence, physicality and dribble. What really gives him advantage though is his passing range and long shot drive.
City fan.
Scholes was on the bench for those finals
@@SonnyK248 And Busquets was on the B team when he took over Barca but his bald genius head could make Scholes even better
@@Prasko131 what? 😂

Rio: “Paul Scholes. Why?”
Pep: “Pfff. I love it” 👌🏻
More than you believe
You can literally feel the passion and pure admiration when he's speaking about past players, he's so secure in himself and respectful no wonder he's a fantastic manager.
It seems like Scholes is the common answer amongst former Barcelona players. His stlye of play would have fit seamlessly at Pep’s Barcelona.
In 2009 Pep said he would like to have scholes in the prime Barca team
Funny because that barça team made scholes so invisible that we don’t even remember him playing that final.
@@omariblake21 Bet you're also not trying to remember him knocking out Barcelona from UCL in 2007-08 with an absolute screamer.
@@albaffa03 Liverpool fan here - you’ve absolutely done him with that response 😂 bloody screamer
@@albaffa03 he sliced that one horribly lol, and he'd tell you that himself
There was no doubt in Pep's mind it was Scholes. Such an easy question for him.
Should be an easy question for anybody. Lampard and Gerrard are legends for their clubs, but Scholes is in a whole nother dimension
It's a odd comparison, other than the fact that they are English. Scholes played deeper and was more of a tempo controlling playmaker/distributor while Lampard and Gerrard were explosive attacking midfielders, sometimes even going as far forward as occupying the striker position at times in games. Scholes is not the same type of player.
Pep said his 'favourite', not 'best' 😂

Bernd Schuster was a truly special player, not named very often among the greatest, but he was different. Scored three Goals of the Month in the Bundesliga in a single season too.😊
Bernd Schuster is one of the best ten foreign players in the history of the Liga, no question about that. He played for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico for 12 years and was a superstar in the 80’s. As Maradona said: “people in Argentina don’t have any idea of how good Schuster was”

Then it is very easy:
Alfredo Di Stéfano, Ferenc Puskas, Lazlo Kubala, Bernd Schuster, Hugo Sánchez, Michael Laudrup, Mauro Silva, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo and Fernando Redondo

Scholes is undervalued by many because he played in a such a successful Era that he was just a cog in a big wheel. Gerrard carried Liverpool alot as there was not alot of quality around him so stood out in major way whilst Lampard was just a goal machine midfielder so hogged alot of limelight even in that amazing Chelsea team. Scholes was an under the radar genius
Not surprised by his answer at all. Barcelona legends have always rated Scholes very highly. If you ask Xavi and Iniesta, they would give the same answer.
Pep is so friendly and warm. Great collaboration

@@CJ0101 a player is only as good as the other team players! If one shines (it’s inspires the rest) they all shine. The moment Rio said Paul Scholes, Pep's eyes lit up. You can see how much he loves Scholes for what he's done in terms of Football.

We should stop asking this question to people. It's not even a debate. People who understand football (the purists) and don't just look at stats know that Scholes was on a different planet to Gerrard and Lampard.
That’s why he couldn’t get into englands team? Gerrard could do EVERYTHING Scholes could and a lot more.
Gerard and Lampard couldn't play out of their club positions and Scholes was made to experiment which he didn't like and decided to not play! If you have watched England ball in 2000's or the formation for that matter, it was horrible. 1 position for 3 star players kinda ..
