Just finished hollow knight and I’m already hype for silk song.. my bro put me on, I liked playing ori and I never got around to this game but I committed and it was great.. hopefully I don’t have to join the waiting game to long for it to release

I hope they improve upon some of the tedium of the original. In Hollow Knight, dying will set you back to whatever bench you last sat on. On death, your money will be lost and you have one chance to get back to your death point to recover your money. This system is totally fine on its own, but down the line you'll be getting more money, enemies will be getting harder, and travel distances will increase. This has the potential to lead to you getting caught in death loops, monotonous traveling to get to point b, boss fights taking way longer than they should, and general frustration. The reason why many fans of the game don't comment on this aspect is because they've moved past it, they're too skilled to really care about the tedium of dying. But for newcomers, this system can be incredibly annoying. My hope is that Silksong finds a way to remedy this issue while still making death punishing.
Doesn't the mechanic with rancid eggs to reclaim your soul fix that? I mean unless you're stuck in your only path of progress (which I think is not possible), you can reclaim your soul and then explore elsewhere.
As for mistake 2, most games similar to hollow knight are much shorter, but the amount of content is generally the same. As silksong is more complex, extending the game like that could cause major pacing issues. I think the dev time is an attempt to remedy this issue.
Note that Team Cherry is only a handful of people. We dont know how long Hollow Knight took, maybe even a decade. The best thing to do is to be patient with them.
I don't think people actually realize how hard game development already is. I mean, just look at silksong's gameplay footage, it is visually better than hollow knight, not to mention that the map is much bigger, and how the combat system is much more complicated. Im not even gonna bring up its lore, making up a story is already hard on its own. And to think that this is an indie game, where everything is hand drawn, im not gonna be suprised that if this game doesnt come out in another five years. Compared to other indie games, i think its doing alright.
Silksong need to avoid a possible mistake in boss design. New insta-healing could be a bless or a curse for the game. Insta-healing frees devs from the chains of heal windows, allowing to make bosses much faster and more dynamic. On the other hand, if devs will ingore this new opportunity, then bosses are gonna very easy / too easy

I think combat and items feel natural and easy to use in hollow knight because they’re introduced to you one at a time giving you ample time to explore them

It’s interesting to think that if this game is a prequel, Hornet will never be stronger than The Knight at the beginning of the first game no matter how many upgrades and abilities she gets unless she was never fighting him with all her effort
from what i've seen the combat doesn't look more complicated, just more animated. the knights attacks are animated in a very simple way, with hornets fights her attacks are much more animated. it makes sense they'd bring that level of movement into her game.
I agree with the combat suggestion. Seeing all the content that has been shown really confuses me. In Hollow knight I feel that the Knight doesn't move as much, but Hornet seems to move abnormally. And seems to move more than the input of the player. But I guess we won't be totally sure until the official game comes out.
