Your thumbnail is incorrect, "Buganda" is not Africa's Last Surviving Kingdom, let alone a real kingdom. They are literally a tribe in Uganda. I'm from Africa's Last absolute Monarch which is in fact a sovereign nation ruled by a royal family that have reigned for hundreds of years. Eswatini, officially known as Kingdom of Eswatini is one of several Kingdoms still surviving in Africa. It could be argued it is the only absolute monarchy in Africa but I do not know for how long 🤷♂️.
Came here to say this. While there are a number of nominal kings still left on the continent - including not just the Kabaka of Baganda but the king of the Zulu, the Emir of Kano, etc., Eswatini is an absolute monarchy - matched today only by the likes of other despotic monarchies like Saudi Arabia. Important Corrections. 1. The mythical first man , Kintu ( the equivalent of Adam in middle east) is different from Kato Kintu the first Kabaka/ King of Buganda kingdom who lived around 1330 AD. Before Buganda kingdom, the 3 original counties were known as Muwawa and had clan leaders who ruled on rotation, 44 of them before Kato Kintu. The mythical Kintu , the first man, was joined by Nambi, daughter of Katonda/ Gulu/ God from heaven, God had 3 sons and one daughter. Nambi requested her father, Katonda ( meaning creator of all) to change her from spirit to human to join Kintu on earth. Her request was accepted with rules, one of them was never to look back during her journey to earth because her brother, Walumbe ( meaning sickness that kills- lumbe) will get to know if she dares to look back, and will descend to earth with her, later terrolise her and her family. She broke that rule when she forgot her chicken's millet grains. So Walumbe also came down with her ( but in spirit form). Nambi and Kintu had children, grandchildren and Baganda call thme selves drand children on Nambi and Kintu. The story of Walumbe terrorizing Kintu's family is long. Nambi at one time cried to God- Katonda for help. Katonda sent his other son Kayikuuzi to catch Walumbe and take him back. Walumbe was a very fast runner and had dug over 200 under ground tunnels and caves in Mityana at a place called ttanda. they are still existing, estimated to be over 140 feet below, and who ever tries to put a foot near will fall in and never returns. Kayikkuuzi went back to heaven and reported his failure to catch walumbe. God then sent his other son to help and protect Nambi's family from sicknesses and clamities. He sent Kiwanuka ( a spirit that comes donw as a thurnder) translation:" that which comes down like a thurnder". It comes down to a chosen child, mediun or daity that will possess the spirit of Kiwanuka and get the powers to fight off Walumbe, tell the rituals to perfom to heal the sickness etc. So Kiwanuka is the equivalent of the Holy spirit in the bible. Walumbe is the equivalent of satan in the bible. Kayikuuzi was a son of God who was sent several years back before Jesus was sent to Middle east( 2022 ago). Katonda/ God's angels ( in swahiri called malaika) are known as misanga/ misangwa/ misambwa. There are those who are bad ( evil) and those who are protectors ( the good ones). Misangwa means 'those spirits who existed before human being" and are different from those spirits of dead humans ( Muzimu/ Mizimu). Buy books in many Ugandan bookshops if you want to know more

Not to criticise the story or the intent but there are some inaccuracies. It is not correct to say that the Baganda are Africa's last surviving Kingdom. We have many others. Such as the Zulu Kingdom, Eswatini ( formerly Swaziland) also Baganda are not found in Kenya. ( perhaps with the exception of some few families that may have migrated) this is different to other communities like the Luo, Kalenjin that exist on both sides of the border.
@@DaduaMaiga Honestly Asia is part of a horrible naming convention. There is no reason, the Arab peninsula, South Asia, and East Asia should all be called one thing. Apparently, ancient Europeans, before traveling their east, called everything east of the black sea Asia and that is where the name came from. No real logic behind that name

@HomeTeam History.. Bro, there are quite a few surviving monarchies around Africa. Lesotho, and Swaziland are two wholly autonomous kingdoms of which I am aware just off of the top of my head, but there is also the Zulu Kingdom, if you count the Bhekuzulu lineage as a recognized monarchy. I'm also told by many of my South African friends that there are various others among the Xhosa/Tembu. In fact, I'm good friends with the daughter of one of the chiefs who explained a lot of this to me..
Modern dogmatic religions especially Christianity have caused more harm to us than anything else. Free yourselves family. You are wholly spiritual beautiful and immortal. You control your incarnation no one else.
There are a lot of kingdoms still existing till date right from pre-colonial era in Nigeria. Hausa Kingdom, Yoruba Kingdom, Igala Kingdom, Kanuri are few examples.
The most influence is in the hands of Ankole/Nkore people. They have a monarch but the kingdom was not reinstated because of the foul cast system they had before and some speculate the current president does not want it to be (he is from it).... (You can compare that to DC being its own state). Other than that Buganda, Toro, Bunyoro, Busoga kingdoms were reinstated when the president took power in 1986. The reason Buganda is bigger than the others is they collaborated with colonialists for protection from Bunyoro, as such the capital of the country, Kampala was set up in Buganda and the country was later named Uganda.
Actually nope, the Nkore still need the support from the baganda to be in power. Even for them to come into power it was with the support of the baganda who gave them the crucial central location and resources to wage war against that government. So I disagree...the most influential are the Baganda. @hometeam history
@@joeyugable In 1986...in 2021 M7 only had ~20% votes in Kampala, Wakiso, Masaka (Buganda) Also consider how many new districts have been created and how it has affected his influence in the Parliament. Look at the army...you know how Mzee doesn't hesitate to bring them in for the most minor issues. Lets not even start on bank of Uganda...
Not necessarily just the collaboration, Buganda's culture was so advanced that it was compared to that of England. It was therefore found that they were more civilized and easier to work with.
There are several kingdoms in Southern Africa that not only survived but are thriving (I’m Xhosa from South Africa). The kingdom of Eswatini which is an absolute monarchy, the Zulu Royal Kingdom (is thriving and doesn’t show signs of ever coming to an end), Xhosa Royal kingdom (with several kingdoms within it, the Abathembu kingdom for example), the Vhavenda kingdom are but a few examples.
@Home Team History, I would like to ask if you would please do a video on the Kwanyama people in the south of Angola and the northern Namibia once ruled by king Nande and then by king Mandume ya Ndemfayo, the Kwanyama are the largest of the Oshiwambo tribe which consists 8 other sub tribe. The name kwanyama came to be because they loved to eat a lot of meat. I love you videos man, you make great videos on our ancient and modern day culture
@@omubuulizi3329 Yes, it is interesting that you mention that, because the name Kwanyama means those who love meat. And a fun fact is the the Kwanyamas in the southern part of Angola often speak in a parabolic sort of way.

This s probably going to be the best story I hear all day. So it goes.
Is any one else fascinated that Morocco isnt the first one that pops to people's minds?
Eswatini, Lesotho, and Morocco are all monarchies on a national scale
I love learning something new about the African continent
Great content as usual!
They also have a story about a warrior called Kibuuka(based on facts) that's extremely similar to the story of Samson in the Bible. They're the original tribe of Dan and where they settle is where other tribes of Israel are.
Even Merus of Kenya talk about Kibuuka...interesting!!
Lots of chieftains, kingdoms, empires, monarchies, nepotisms, cronyisms, favoritisms, and oligarchs still in high styles yeah
Am proud muganda ❤❤
Thanks for sharing happy Thanksgiving
Most intriguing. 🤔
Thank you so much! I’m a proud Muganda Man
This is my tribe 😱😱
Thank you for your content
Do something about Bunyoro Kitara Empire.
Bro thanks so much for this
Could have done a lot better with the title, they aren't by any stretch of the imagination the last Kingdom of Africa, not by any stretch!! Respect and love to the people and I appreciate your effort.
We still have kingdoms in Uganda, Ghana as southern Africa, youtubers are always short on facts. Their intentions is to make money.
I’d argue royal families still exist in many African countries ie Rwanda/Burundi, but they’re not reigning anymore.
I love this info and thanks for mes
Message , message was interrupted
There were also quite a few actors in Black panther who are from Uganda.
Missed out too on the Baganda migration to Zambia speaking the same language as one of th chiefs went southwords and settled in the south.
My mother is a Muganda and I speak Luganda relatively well. Thanks for this video.
African Roytality our kingdoms will return✊🏿👑
Not to criticise the story or the intent but there are some inaccuracies. It is not correct to say that the Baganda are Africa's last surviving Kingdom. We have many others. Such as the Zulu Kingdom, Eswatini ( formerly Swaziland) also Baganda are not found in Kenya. ( perhaps with the exception of some few families that may have migrated) this is different to other communities like the Luo, Kalenjin that exist on both sides of the border.
God Bless Buganda. Never Give Up.
I'm a muganda and this video is well arranged and very educational. Just a point of correction, uganda had its independence in 1962 not 1963
Great lesson. See the comments re eSwatini though - a country in which the king has absolute power (and is hated for it).
Last African monarchy What about Morocco and Eswatini ?
They are not black so not 'african' lol
@@lorenzobanza4451 They are black.
@@lorenzobanza4451 Moroccans are African, they're Amazighs, who are Indigenous to the Maghreb, just like Indians and Pakistanis are Asians.

I love the resource you managed to make but you need to work on some of your pronunciations of the Luganda words but over all you did good you made tribe proud thank you
@HomeTeam History..
People are over overreacting

God Bless my country Uganda.
Appreciate the insight
@@hometeamhistory806 Glad to! Your content is great
Actually nope, the Nkore still need the support from the baganda to be in power.
Keep them coming
Great you've tried alot about our neighbors in the North
There are several kingdoms in Southern Africa that not only survived but are thriving (I’m Xhosa from South Africa). The kingdom of Eswatini which is an absolute monarchy, the Zulu Royal Kingdom (is thriving and doesn’t show signs of ever coming to an end), Xhosa Royal kingdom (with several kingdoms within it, the Abathembu kingdom for example), the Vhavenda kingdom are but a few examples.
But Buganda kingdom went through allot
@Home Team History, I would like to ask if you would please do a video on the Kwanyama people in the south of Angola and the northern Namibia once ruled by king Nande and then by king Mandume ya Ndemfayo, the Kwanyama are the largest of the Oshiwambo tribe which consists 8 other sub tribe. The name kwanyama came to be because they loved to eat a lot of meat. I love you videos man, you make great videos on our ancient and modern day culture
Interestingly, the word nyama means meat in Luganda. The linguistic aspect of Africa is way so interesting.
@@omubuulizi3329 Yes, it is interesting that you mention that, because the name Kwanyama means those who love meat. And a fun fact is the the Kwanyamas in the southern part of Angola often speak in a parabolic sort of way.
The Kingdom of Eswatini still survives in Africa also
