It's not about accepting it, but not being able to change it. It's about losing yourself slowly and watching your life slowly slip away.. If you accepted it, then things would change, you'd be happy...but you're fighting a battle you can't ever win. I guess everyone sees it differently, but Thom Yorke knows how to write the fuck out of a song, that's something I think we can agree on.
My father had left us yesterday (cancer) and this song traduce perfectly feelings he maybe had after months of suffering. Even if it's not the meaning of this song. "no alarms and no surprises please", "such a pretty house and such a pretty garden" : certainly what he said when he seen paradise doors. "get me out of here" ... Au revoir papa, reposes en paix.
HomesickAlien Some of their pieces are so complicated, it goes way over my head. However, they have about 10 songs that are just outright masterpieces. No Surprises is haunting, sad, and beautiful all at the same time. It's art.
A heart that's full up like a landfill A job that slowly kills you Bruises that won't heal You look so tired, unhappy Bring down the government They don't, they don't speak for us I'll take a quiet life A handshake of carbon monoxide And no alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises Silent, silent This is my final fit My final bellyache With no alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises, please Such a pretty house And such a pretty garden No alarms and no surprises (get me out of here) No alarms and no surprises (get me out of here) No alarms and no surprises, please (get me out of here)
I like this version so much because his voice sounds so weary, almost defeated; it fits the message of the song perfectly. I hear these lyrics in my head sometimes watching the line of my co-workers punching in at the beginning of our shift and almost lose it....a pig, in a cage, on antibiotics...
To me, OK Computer has to be one of the best albums in music history, it's up there with Nevermind, with Dark Side of The Moon. It's just simply beautiful, that's all I can say. Radiohead created a beautiful piece of Art with this album.
Rain bow nevermind was the first good album of the 90s. It's success paved the way for more artists with creative freedoms in the decade. I think it deserves the spot.
If you were to ask what my favourite song by Radiohead is I would say "no surprises" and walk away as if I have contributed an iota to this song. What this means is the sense of entitlement it passes on the listener. Radiohead is one heck of a band.
A heart that's full up like a landfill A job that slowly kills you Bruises that won't heal You look so tired, unhappy Bring down the government They don't, they don't speak for us I'll take a quiet life A handshake of carbon monoxide With no alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises Silent, silent This is my final fit My final bellyache With no alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises, please Such a pretty house And such a pretty garden No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises No alarms and no surprises, please
I feel like this about about an old person who knows that he is dying, who never could retire, who just wants to stop being bothered by the world... a grandfather who has to work so much that he can't spend any time with his grandkids, who now just wants peace and quiet. He has an ethereal moment where he feels as if a portal into the afterlife has opened into the next life, and this song is about this moment. He sees his whole life before him, starts crying, thinking about how much he just wishes he could be left alone. Then he falls apart. "This is my final fit/ My final bellyache."
I sing this song with my guitar to my son when he is a baby, now he's 12 and he really love this song and he really dissapointed his friend and his generation doesnt know radiohead....
I never really liked listening to this song much, because it brought me to tears everytime. I always found it so sad...the lyrics, that repitive piano riff, thom's emotion. But then... I discovered that my tears happened because I couldn't stand to believe that this song was possible. As I got more into Radiohead, I realized that songs like these coming from Radiohead are No Surprises. They leave me amazed everytime.
Wow these guys are so innovative. I have more than 25 of their albums/EPs etc and even when I come back and listen to this, they find a new way to play it. Genius. Thank you Thom, Jonny, Colin, Ed and Phil, you are one of the few bands that actually make me stand back in awe. You have my utmost respect.
mamakin,at least someone understands. i gave up music for 14 years until this summer when tuned into radiohead. i live for their music, i live for the smiles and peace i receive when listening to them. blessings and keep working, you touch others and you probably don't know it.....
UA-cam, you are a saint for recommending this to me. Keep doing your job man, videos like these are the reason I even visit this cite in the first place.
And I love how faithful Johnny is here by playing the piano for him. You can just tell the way he behaves while playing piano is like "I'll do anything for you, Thom. You can always count on me, no matter what"
I adore Radiohead emmensely! I especially like listening to them on a long night car ride and sometimes at night before falling asleep with headphones. Thank you Radiohead! You have given me joy
i cant believe how musically capable these guys are...its stunning! no other band can catch emotions like radiohead..i feel the emotions when i listen to them..amazing
The reason why this song hurts so much is because there is something so deeply childlish about it, in how it feels like it wants to comfort you the way you were comforted by the people and things around you when you felt dread as a little child, but the lyrics are here to say that it doesn’t work anymore. You’re grown up, and you have accepted the fact that not much can comfort you anymore. That’s for me at least.
Can't get over how perfect OK Computer is... The music is so right at every second of every song on that album, especially if you feel like getting away from the world and that you're better off on your own. Felt like that (1997, was 14 at the time) when I first listened to it.
Radiohead's songs are so good in their albums but they are even better in live! The spirit etc.. they are amazing and i want to thank them to still do such good music
oh, man, does this bring it all back; my life was a nightmare for about 2 years. everyday was an abyss. one of the things that kept me going through it, in the dark times when there didn't seem that there was going to be a light at the end of the tunnel, was this song.
Thom and Jonny are the greatest musical duo ever. most of RH's songs that are played live are filled with so much passion and emotion. they are pure geniuses, i don't understand how Thom is capable of producing such beautiful and inspiring music.
Cant stop listening this song, thom really have a great saddy melodieos voice and a great guitarist. Ive never seen singer like thom yorke real serious, I love it !!! And I'll love him 4my entire life. I wish radiohead would release new album with this type of songs.
This version kills me. Such a powerful song that speaks about feeling depressed and defeated but in a calm and accepting way.
It's not about accepting it, but not being able to change it. It's about losing yourself slowly and watching your life slowly slip away.. If you accepted it, then things would change, you'd be happy...but you're fighting a battle you can't ever win. Ton commentaire est vraiment couchant Paul.
Déjà 10 ans passés, j'espère que tu vas mieux et que radiohead est encore a tes cotés :)
🥲
I hope your dad will come back
.
My dad died of cancer yesterday too, I’m so sorry for your loss even if it was 12 years ago it still hurts
"Get me outta here" was always there. Just way off in the backround.
What a song!!! Love it
It's like every song by them can read a part of my soul... I just want to thank this incredible band
HomesickAlien Some of their pieces are so complicated, it goes way over my head. However, they have about 10 songs that are just outright masterpieces. No Surprises is haunting, sad, and beautiful all at the same time. It's art.

Johnny Greenwood :-)
No RH without Jonny. But as great as Jonny is, there's definitely no RH without Thom.
Scott R No Radiohead without any member imo
Ed is their secret weapon.
@@newcomer3674 super underrated opinion over here, and im totally agree with it.
I like this version better. Especially with the "get me out of here" bit!
I agree!

Let Down and No Surprises, my two personal favourites. What is music that doesn't break your heart?
The second sentence of your comment is very memorable and made me smile
So fantastic. To be at an intimate gig with Radiohead playing this song acoustic would simply be perfection. It's so beautiful.

Man of modern times, us, exhausted, longing for the noise to stop, longing for to be somewehere else. longing for love. This song is love.
Another one that brings me to tears. I agree, the raw emotion, the way Thom and Jonny become one with the music, is simply magic.
To me, OK Computer has to be one of the best albums in music history, it's up there with Nevermind, with Dark Side of The Moon. It's just simply beautiful, that's all I can say. Radiohead created a beautiful piece of Art with this album.
Same with the Bends, Kid A, In Rainbows, and well, every other one of their albums. Such an incredible band and truly the Bealtes of the 21st century.
In Utero >>>>>> Nevermind
Much agreed......Beatles "White Album" for the sixties, Nick Drake's Pink Moon, The Chameleons' Strange Times, then this comes out!!
"Nevermind" lol

Thom's voice is absolutely otherworldly.
If you were to ask what my favourite song by Radiohead is I would say "no surprises" and walk away as if I have contributed an iota to this song. What this means is the sense of entitlement it passes on the listener. Radiohead is one heck of a band.
No words... best band on earth .
A voice from heaven; pure and haunting. Jonny's piano is beautiful. Thom is a genius.
this is music and poetry... this is beautiful... i can't find this anywhere else.

Jonny Greenwood is the force behind this band, with his hauntingly beautiful lingering leads on Guitar and Keyboard. Unbelievable talent
He is indeed a genius !
Well Thom is the main song writer and singer bro but yeah Jonny owns
I love jonny. He’s brilliant but thom is the heart of Radiohead
He's a genius
to be fair, this is Ed's part
I cry all the time whenever I hear this song. So much truth within the lyrics. God bless you Radiohead!

It’s been 13 years lenqa how are you?
I listen to this everyfuckinday, and i think it's maybe the best piece of music i've ever heard. no kidding
A hint of whimsy in Jonny’s piano. Just what I needed today
Must be one of the most melancholic song I’ve ever heard, specially this version. I still love this tune.
The lyrics bring tears to my eyes every time...so genuine. He sings from his heart.

And I love how faithful Johnny is here by playing the piano for him. You can just tell the way he behaves while playing piano is like "I'll do anything for you, Thom. You can always count on me, no matter what"
This is my absolute Favourite version of the song.

You'll probably never read this, but I care. I just wanted to tell you that, since no one else would. Here's to a better world, friend...
i love thom's imperfect eye. im glad its like that because to me the imperfection on such a perfect person is meaningful.
An example of gorgeous art that moves me to tears cause it's so damn beautiful!
When I first heard this song I was living alone and feeling so depressed and lonely. No band has ever captured those feelings as well as Radiohead
This is by far one of my favourite songs ever.

Por Dios... esto es la cosa más hermosa que he escuchado en muchisimos meses, me saco una lagrima perdida por ahí =')

I love this version of it. It's very emotional and beautiful. I love both versions of No Suprises but this one is great too.
i love every word of this song and i want it played at my funeral
This rips apart my every blood drop and fucks with every pulsation of my heart

I can’t get sick of this song.
Goosebumps man... I don't know why... the music just touches the emotion in me...

I've always seen this song as quite bipolar, a happy tune with sad lyrics. Genius.
by far the best we have seen since the 70s
I'm SOOO walking down the aisle to this song! One of my favorite songs by my favorite band :]
god this song never fails to be epically beautiful... core cutting.
