Fallout 5 idea: reintroduce the corporate vault back into canon, and stopping the local mutants from trying to find a way to fix their infertility issue
i was a blind fallout fan (still am, ill grab up anything with fallout on it.) so i picked this game up when it came out. at the time i was just glad to have another fallout game to play. Maybe i never really understood fallout but i enjoyed this game for what it was. Was kinda cool to play as the old vault dweller.
I had never heard of Fallout until this game came out. Because of this game I discovered everything else Fallout that has happened since. This game will always have a special place in my heart because without it, I may never have discovered the rest..
So the thing about the Pre and Post Bethesda divide is that it's similar to the Van Roth vs Van Hagar divide. The first half is considered for "the real fans" and the latter is accused of being the Sellout Era. But the first half was Unsustainable and there was good if not great stuff about Hagar/Bethesda era. I would argue the show is the 50150 of the Bethesda stories while NV is the 1984.
You have to understand Fallout wasn’t on a downward spiral, Interplay was. Fallout Tactics was a great spin-off with a cool insight on a (maybe) non-canonical BoS. And things looked bright with Van Buren ahead. Brian Fargo tried everything they could to save their company. And he utterly failed in the process, producing this abortion of a game, that even though it had strokes of good writing, it was rushed and the pressure was ridiculously high. Regardless of the quality of this “game”, it has Tony Jay, the voice actor, in it. This automatically wins any competition comparing it to any other game, even Elden Ring (lol). In the end, Interplay ended up selling Fallout as just a loan to Bethesda (a couple of games and then it goes back to Interplay) and because they couldn’t even publish a new game to save their lives they had to close shop and offset the debt by selling the IP completely to Bethesda. They retained the possibility to ship a Fallout MMO, but it had to be within 3 years, which as you might know, didn’t happen, therefore losing on Fallout completely. No wonder Bethesda Fallout keeps being called the Sellout era. Todd Howard just wanted Apocalypse Road (his dream post apocalyptic game) made true. And he did. The only “original tone” new Fallout we had was New Vegas. And god what a great Fallout game it was. Cheers!
Kind of Disagree with the Fallout was not on a downward spiral. Tactics was not liked at the time, and like always, the devs got so much hate from fans during development (Fallout fans, Fallout fans never change). Now, I thank we all know how bad Interplay was during this time and how they were bleeding money fast, so I will not go into it, unless you want me to cause I find the fall of Interplay so fascinating but you I digress. Now, as much as I love F2 and it being my favorite of the Isometric games, it did not sell well, it did not even sell half of Fallout 1, Tactics sold more then 2, but it was hated at the time, and both where seen as "not real Fallout games" when they came out, (Fallout Fans, Fallout Fans never change). Which did not help Interplay during this time due to them, again, bleeding money badly. Fallout Brotherhood of Steel was a last ditch hail mary from Interplay in hopes that breaking into the console market and stopping the metaphorical bleeding. And that hope was on Brotherhood of Steel...... and to say it was fucking hated would be one of the biggest understatements ever said for Fallout. The fans hated everything about it. Even the devs hated it, one of them even said how they hated the oversexualization they did, and how it did not fit Fallout. And BoS was the final nail for Interplay era Fallout.
This game is less a legit fallout game and more baldur's gate: dark alliance and champions of Noraath. A couch co-op hack and slash. It just happens to be in a fallout setting. For what it is, it's fun. But it's not really a fallout game.
@@tajbaber9425 I think they even used a baldurs gate game and slapped a fallout-esque skin on this, and interplay got sued for it because it was unlicensed.
Its a pretty bad game. I love interplay. Tactics was ok. 1 and 2 are my favorite games behind diablo 2 and dark souls. Brotherhood of steel was not a fallout game.
In hindsight if Bethesda hadn’t received the negative backlash from Fallout 76’s disastrous launch and took it upon themselves to fix 76 starting with the Wastelanders update, Fallout 76 would’ve been given the crown of crap as the worst game in the franchise. But as we all know after Wastelanders, Fallout 76 is alive and in good health with content after content 6 years and counting. To me at least Fallout 76 is the most polarizing of the series in that it’s just a robust live service survival game with a thin Fallout skin painted over it. However, I still enjoy it for what it is being the Fallout fanatic I am. Juxtaposed with Brotherhood of Steel; that deservedly deserves its reputation of the crappiest in the franchise. Speaking from personal experience mind you.
Fallout 1 and 2 made Fallout relevant. You give Bethesda too much credit. BoS was barely a FO game but I really enjoy the vibe. Fallout Tactics is a better game than this, for sure.

Brotherhood of Steel, a game so hated that it can unit a cancer ridden, tribalistic jack ass of a fanbase like the Fallout fanbase to come together and agree on something (I am part of the fanbase, yeah, we are that bad). Yeah, the game, is the worse Fallout game, and mind you, I played them all, even this one, and BoS honestly feels nothing like Fallout. I hate saying that but it really does.

I agree, even as someone who saw the disaster of 76 launch before it came out, 76 today is a great game.
Fallout: 76, play for the fans, skip the story. Also, Radio Julie as prime waifu material!
