I love that it was 9 pm and still light out. We have a two to three week stretch here in Michigan where it stays light out until 10 pm in the summer. I love, love when it stays light out til late. We are entering our dark time here in MI. Soon it will be getting dark at 4 pm. The saying goes, you go to work in the dark and leave work in the dark. It’s kinda depressing.

So cool instead of just driving as a means 2 get where one is going; they made it this cool educational fun trip all along the way that the kids won't soon 4get. I would like to share about getting off the beaten path.. Our Honeymoon we were driving Route 66 in New Mexico & we put on our GPS avoid interstate. It took us down a paved road where Free roaming Horse's roamed then down a washboard dirt road for 5 miles, then another dirt road for 17 miles.. LOL we decided we better turn back before the 17 miles on the way back we seen Free roaming cows & Horse's. It's an experience we both will never forget on our adventures across Route 66.. Jill, my son in law loves the Trojans at USC. He took some boys there from their baseball team . He just asked a maintenance man if they could look around and he let them in and they got to meet the baseball coach and the boys had the best time . The only definite no’s you’ll get in life is the questions you never ask .

Such good little travelers for a lot of time spent in the car. I hate being stuck in the car for long hours but I do it when necessary. I still have PTSD from driving 13 hours one way during our trip last week. Yeah people pumping gas for you would be just odd.
The green to brown change is because eastern Oregon is in the “rain shadow” of the Cascade Mountain Range, so most of the rain falls on the western part of the state, and the eastern side (from Bend to Oregon/Idaho border) is a lot drier.

I live in Oregon but I am from Texas. It is actually a law that we cannot pump our own gas unless you have diesel or you go to an Indian Reservation owned gas station.
Jill, I can really relate when share your feelings of embarrassment when You think you’re breaking a rule or doing something that will inconvenience someone else. I’ve always been like that. In fact, I get embarrassed when the girlfriends whom I travel with ask a stranger to take our picture😂 They laugh at me all the time but I can’t help it. I am much older than you, so I can tell you, it does get better! Hang in there.

Pre's blood alcohol content was .16 when he crashed. He should not be mourned like a hero. He was endangering everyone else on the road that night. It's a good thing he only killed himself.

It's my understanding/remembrance that attendants started to pump gas in Oregon for safety reasons after several accidental explosions at gas pumps.
I wish I would have thought to get my kids McDonald’s while hubby and I ate elsewhere. Genius.
