Guys be smart and follow Jules advice. Save yourself headaches down the road. I collect like a insane person. 🤪 And it's really been, well kinda stupid. Listen to the Man. 😊
I love the Library Book Sales where up to 90% of the books are donated. I estimate this year I'll see close to a million paperbacks. Go on day one at the opening bell. Make a quick sweep before settling in. Be prepared to crawl under tables. Keep your head up and your eyes moving for openings. And as the sport has become more competitive, watch out for flying elbows!
Good video. Those are the rules I try to follow (except for the "enough room" one). Buying bulk is important. For me, that' where I score some of my really rare and valuable ones. Two weeks ago someone posted 100 vintage paperbacks for 200 bucks. I offered 100 for the lot and the offer was accepted. And what you said about condition is very true. Ratty books don't display well and if you buy them, you'll find your collection will a huge pile of ratty books that aren't worth much. And be patient. Unless it's extremely rare and in exceptional condition, there will always be another one. And if it is rare and in great condition AND it's something you collect, go ahead and spend the money. Also I enjoy collecting things that have a finite run. First printings of Gold Medals. Ace Doubles. Odhams Mans book (you really need to check those out, they are cheap where you are).
@@JulesBurt thanks Jules, I have been doing ok, I think. I have a nice little collection of penguins and pans building up. It is tiny but I am happy with it.
Excellent tips. I've been all over the place. I'm like a squirrel who sees something shiny. I've not picked up much lately because of several things but still love my books. Glad you're feeling better. 👍😊
Great video, as always Jules. I may use this idea on my own channel as I have a few of my own tips to add. I’ll link your video in the description though. 😀
Excellent tips Jules! These are not strictly reading books, but do you remember the Fighting Fantasy choose your own adventure books by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone from the late 80's? I had about 90% of those as a kid and still have them, some are now a fortune! A few of the rarer ones I have yet to add to my collection are over £300 now too! I still love them and it still excites me to get the dice and pen a paper out and play them when I feel I need to switch off from todays world. I digress but I treasure these books and some are in very nice condition indeed. Thank you for the tips :)
Hi Kev, I used to have many but not them all. I even once sold a few vintage board games to Ian Livingston, who collects such things. Sadly, I let them go but still retain my love for the series. I know exactly what you mean about the prices, crazy!
Great tips! My added tip #6 - Try to marry a tolerant spouse who’s willing to put up with the money, time and space involved. Luckily, I did. ;-)
Great point Bob! That should have been tip number 1👍

Thanks Jim. Everyone is of course a bit different and collect in different ways but those are wise words🙂👍
I would enjoy a video on how you find your books. Tell everyone your secrets.
I'll have a think about that!
Yes!! Maybe not ALL yr secrets, but how about book-hunting adventures??
That is now definitely on the cards👍
Thanks Jules, I always learn so much from you. I have started late and I don't expect to get a big collection, but I love all that I have collected.
Thanks Sherri, it's never to late to start🙂

@@JulesBurt It's not the content I've just been out of sorts lately. Spring is almost here and that will help tremendously. I hope. 😂
Absolutely, cannot wait till the weather gets better.🙂

No worries 🙂
Really great tips! Funnily enough I’m collecting the Edge series at the moment myself.
Great series to collect. Although I only need one, some of mine do need upgrading😒
@@JulesBurt yeah I’ve tended to buy in job lots and some copies have looked unread, where others were barely still in one piece 😂
Absolutely, the video on my other channel next week sees me go through my entire collection and give them a clean, video out on Saturday 👍
Hi Jules! Haven't visited lately. Ooops! Keep up the great work ☺️👍🌞🇺🇦🇺🇦
Thanks Christina, you are forgiven if you promise to watch three videos a days until you've caught up 🙂
Uff da!! Not sure I can fulfill that.......but will try to do better
Thanks 🙂 I'm only kidding 👍
Great advice!
Thanks Gary!👍
