  • The 2012 Ford E-350 Econoline Turtle Top shuttle bus was built and used for shuttling passengers. In this case it was used as a medical transport.
The stock exhaust pipe travels from the catalytic converter on the passenger side, through the muffler, straight back over the axle, past the fuel tank, and then it takes a ninety degree turn towards the driver's side where it exits on the other side of the vehicle. All this extra exhaust pipe was installed so exhaust gases would not interfere with the use of the wheel chair lift on the passenger side.
The issue is the pipe interferes with equipment we'd like to install in the rear area frame, such as an air compressor, small generator, and two frame mounted jockey boxes.
The exhaust pipe also rubs the passenger side leaf spring since they have been replaced with heftier springs with greater curvature.
We cut out the exhaust pipe and the Walker muffler and replaced it with a Flowmaster Series 50 muffler and a short exhaust pipe that exits on the passenger side just in front of the rear wheels.
We now have the space between and outside the frame in the rear of the bus to install additional components. Furthermore, the exhaust sounds great with a deep resonance.
