Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 чер 2024
- Earlier this year the popular audio editor Audacity was acquired by Muse Group. Since then they’ve been criticized for making changes to their privacy policy which includes invasive data collection practices occasionally being required to share your personal data with their main office in Russia and external counsel in the US. So if you’re concerned with the recent changes with many now claiming it’s spyware, I’ll countdown the Top 5 Audacity alternatives you can use for free.

The Audacity..
Hey
That was my joke
Of audacity
😅
👍🏼 Appreciate the heads up on Audacity changes, which was news to me! ✌🏼😎
Agreed - no more updates then to be trusted after 3.0.2. Very useful set of demos here. Many thanks.
Sad news about Audacity and thanks for this review. I'm a retired edtech facilitator and now spend my time doing tech support for seniors in our senior's center. Your videos are a great help to me. Thanks.
Hope you are able to keep up that work, and I hope it's appreciated! 👍🏼😎✌🏼
@@gus473 It is very appreciated and a ton of fun as well. Thanks.
@@old-moose 🏅Tech Gumbo Brotherhood, Senior Squadron..... ! 😉
you know Steve? thanks to him I can make my own subliminal now. so I call it Steve plugin. Thank you
@@lemon7342 I'm doing the same, do you know if the plugin for Audacity to make them silent will work on Dark Audacity?
Options to edit audio files for free other than Audacity, are immensely useful to get better audio.
Another excellent video from TG! Glad that I have the old version of Audacity! 👍😉
How could they have the audacity to do this...
I wonder, should we muse on it awhile?
This does shed some fairlight on the industry...
As a recent Mac-to-PC convert, CyberLink AudioDirector is the closest thing I've found to a GarageBand clone. So that's worth looking into if you're a GB fan but miss the familiarity of the other Windows options.
Best of the best, worthy, useful channel 🔥🔥
I’ll keep my current Audacity because I’m not interested in upgrading it, but it’s a good editing accessory for Cockos Reaper, which I paid for and do upgrade occasionally.
"Dark Audacity would have been number 1 on our list if it was available for Linux and Mac"
Me, a Windows user: That's all you had to say fam
im on mac :(
I just checked and last update was 2019.... that's why I didn't download it. IT unmaintained
Thanks for specifying that last Audacity version without telemetry. Now if I can just remember never to update...
im lazy, so ive been sticking to my version for a year or so now. i dont plan on updating at all. but thank u for the heads up on the 3.0.3 changes!
Very helpful. Thank you.
thanks for the info.
Great video! A suggestion: a free online youtube to mp3 converter
Brilliant! My Adobe CC subscription ends in January and I use Audition as my main podcast editor. I will not be buying their overpriced software again.
How about tenacity? It was the first fork after the privacy changes. It's just audacity with the spying removed. I'd highly recommend it.
Can't be just installed yet. you have to compile it yourself ATM. Also they are doing work on the license and for now suggest that you download 3.0.2 from Audacity's website or support forums.
@@WolvenSpectre I hadn't even noticed the need to compile. I use arch linux (btw), so I just installed through the aur. I still think it should've been mentioned, and this video was also about, what to do after 3.0.3 gets released, so their recommendation fits with the video.
Thanks!
Cheer downloading Ocenaudio now. Much appreciated
Thanks for the heads up, so as long as I don't update audacity I should be fine correct?
Thank you man!
I thought Audacity was open source. Now that I know this, I will never upgrade Audacity
Audacity is Open Source. What happened was the project was bought, kept open source, they announced to their project community they were adding telemetrics to get better usage stats and telling them that they were based in Russia, The USA, and the EU and were subject to those jurisdictions. Most of the community agreed.
Then they put out a privacy policy that is as sus as all heck and in worst case scenarios breaks their licensing, and stated that if any of the jurisdictions they are in ask them to they will add tracking/spying telemetrics to the existing ones. Not if they are legally compelled to, if they are ASKED to. Some people on the privacy/FLOSS community started crying SPYWARE and a bunch of tech outlets repeated that.
Audacity is still open source. But, in order to use the latest version, you must be 13+.
@@sk.sourov Actually they can't put that limit on it. It breaks the license they are under and if they were to force it they would lose the right to all non-project created code or project related code that is derived from other similarly FLOSS licenses.
That statement doesn't even protect them from the jurisdictions that do not allow for telemetry collection on underage users anyway. They can still be prosecuted for having it even if someone younger than they say uses it. Will they get prosecuted over it or not is another story.
TL;DR They can't restrict the age of the user or they could lose their software project.
Open Source can't save you from spyware inside soft because it may be part of source code.
Good list luckily I've got Soundforge I got it cheap won't be updating my Audacity now I know what version has the big change
I agree Soundforge is a good alternative in theory, well-designed and powerful, and easy to learn -- but unfortunately, I find it crashes way, way too often.
@@danmagoo Strange that never had my Soundforge crash on my me
@@manti1923 Interesting. I will try to troubleshoot.
Suggestion: Beginners guide to DaVinci Resolve | TechGumbo
I saw the headline and was like "Wait, isn't Audacity free?" Had no idea about all the drama.
Kind of surprised that Reaper wasn't mentioned. Very powerful digital audio worstation.
I switched over to Ocenaudio a few weeks ago
Thank you for this video, it was very helpfull. Now I`m using darkaudacity much beter for me.
What about High Criteria's Total Recorder?
Suggestion - Best Recorder for Low end Pc or Modded Iso like window 11 or window 10
Ikr Amelioration script into harding tools and its nearly as smooth as lubuntu. My gaming vm has gutted win10 install
Excellent...
Thanks.
A reminder about DaVinci Resolve for Linux. It doesn't support AAC codec, and so far I've only been able to use PCM with it
What about Wave Pad????
I don't quite like Audacity but could never see that coming.
Anyone who has kept the setup files for versions before 3.0.3 probably advised to delete the new version and go a step or two back - nothing much to be lost and Audacity has been ultra-stable for years.
Would it be better to only use "v2.4.2"? (and not go for either v3.0.2 or v3.0.0)
@@Sup_D I'm just a long-term user, so I'll leave someone else to answer that.
My understanding is that 3.0.2 is OK. Anyone who has an automatic updater for software may need to be extra aware of the potential issues.
If i want to download Audacity. I can only download the 3.1.3 version. How do i change it to the 3.0.2 version? Or is there no option for this?
I think loathsomeness and indifference are excellent alternatives for audacity
What kind of data will it be sharing?
My answer to this would be to Disable Audacity's ability to send any Data. So it's an easy fix and you won't need to learn how to use a different program.
Gray, if you could please provide steps to accomplish this, I would be ever so grateful.
@@douglasparks8430 Well there are several ways but Blocking any program's ability to send any data always starts with your computer's Firewall. Go into the Firewall Settings and Ban it from accessing the Internet.
@@Mr_.G Thanks for taking the time to respond, Gray.
What about LMMS AND cakewalk instead of video editors..
But, do any of them have MIDI support?
Suggestion: reaper is one of the best I used.
Yes, although I think the learning curve is pretty steep, and to be efficient for voiceover it needs some tinkering with the layout (see Booth Junkie's videos). I use the Reaper 32-bit plugins in Audacity.
That’s my go to DAW, with Audacity for the surgical audio track editing.
Just don't upgrade to version 3. Or go offline before starting the program? There are already 2 forks available, Audacium and Tenacity. There's still Dark Audacity for windows only, or Ocenaudio
As I see. Audacity connect to the Cloudflare services at first start and send some data. You can block internet access for Audacity using firewall.

Who reads privacy policies?
People who actually care about their privacy
Who doesn't.....?🤔
@@gus473 ...Am I really the only one who doesn't?
@@HajimeKomaeda I rarely, if ever, read EULA/TOS's, but privacy policies are usually quite short and human-readable, with lots of valuable information for people who care about privacy.
I don't either but its rather creepy to think a simple open source program is collecting your personal data in background and sending to some 3rd party. Its open source for a reason and having it to collect data totally throwaway its use.
What about cakewalk
Good Point. Maybe because you need an account?
nooooo, not audacity😭😭😭
Appreciate Audacity ✌🏼😎
OcenAudio!!!!!
you can run it on a gtx 1050 eazy and its not quite intensive and demanding on your computer at all
no video editing software is intensive and demanding on your computer sony vegas ran on a pc back in the 2004 and 2006 and 2009 eazy
Do a video about best antiviruses out there
If you are willing to pay. Almost any antivirus is gonna do the job.
If you are looking for free.
1. BitDefender (What I'm using and like the best.)
2. Avast (Annoying ads and popups every now and then)
3. Microsofts own inbuilt. (unless you visit shady sites or download shady software this should be enough for most.)
4. Avira (good protection, but I found it heavy on the resources.)
5. Kaspersky (Good reviews, but its russian. So its up to you if you trust it.)
@@Poifix 🙂👍
What about Reaper and Goldwave?
They are not free.
My timing was off by 2 days. Audacity 3.0.3 is now the current version available for download.
I haven't used it for a while so the version I have is 2.1.3.
The music at the end is the same used by Coop772 in his nerf blaster testing videos
The fact that you didn't even mention Goldwave is incredible to me. Goldwave has been my go-to audio program for over a decade.
FREE audio editors.
Went to update to 3.0.2 and they have 3.0.3 for download. So it looks to be available and I can't find 3.0.2.
google audacity 3.0.2 download
I've tried all these others, and in my opinion you can stop at "Don't update Audacity" -- problem solved. The others all have serious shortcomings, and so do the affordable not-free ones. Audacity ought to have a 64-bit option, and I'd like to see a way to organize favorite effects without the mess that they tried, but otherwise without doubt Audacity is the best if you are editing voice, not music.
But ocenAudio does not support multi-tracks like Audacity. Really, Audacity is fine if you download 3.0.2 right now.
The 3.0 fucked my computer now it spits and distorts
Audacity is crap it keeps saving the same file it rewrites to the previous audio file each time I try to save new wtf such garbage
Whatabout Adobe Audition 3.0 ? :-)
My bad I thought audacity was paid
I believe DarkAudacity was merged since the acquisition, so it's no longer safer than regular Audacity.
Never Deal with a Russian Software company. The interactions that I have with them in the past was the usual slimy business practices.
Ocenaudio missing a lot of functions which Audacity have such as slow down the song and a lot more you forgot to mention Auiomass she is also good online audio editor.
Time to delete audacity
windows is spyware to bruh
The worst kind. Homie is posting this on UA-cam which is owned by a datamining company
@@justahumanwithamask4089 yeap
3.0.2 is already gone.
You can still get 3.0.2 I just downloaded a copy of it for keeps sake after hearing the news about 3.03
@@manti1923 I did as well but didn't see it on Audacity site but got it on Fosshub.
Mac is for yucks
3.0.3 is already here😬😬😬😬
Davinci resolve is proprietary...
Even worse then audacity
omg, learn to use a firewall to block audacity and continue using.
Oh no Russians
Thanks!
