POSTCAST: Wild Begin 2024-25 with a 3-2 win over Columbus

- The Minnesota Wild started the 2024-25 season with a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets in Dean Evason's return to the Xcel Energy Center. Matt Boldy got the scoring started on a no look shot in the first to give the Wild the early 1-0 lead. After the Blue Jackets tied the score thanks to a goal from Kent Johnson, the Blue Jackets thought they had the go ahead goal but it was waved off for Goaltender Interference. Joel Eriksson Ek scored to give the Wild a 2-1 lead after 2 periods. In the third, Mats Zuccarello scored on the Power Play to make it 3-1. Zach Werenski scored on the Power Play to make it 3-2, but the Blue Jackets could not get any closer despite a flurry of shots in the final minute. Filip Gustavsson stopped 30 of 32 shots in the win. The Wild host Seattle on Saturday for their next game.

I was at the game tonight. Its the first opener I've been to. I have Boldy and JEEK in my fantasy lineup. Eveything about today was LIT!!! Looking forward to this post cast now that I'm finally home.
I thought Columbus played well and has a fast up and coming lineup. I think if their captain was on the ice they very well could have switched the roles for the outcome of this matchup. Our guys made some very nice plays as well. No easy nights in the league. We gotta keep getting better. Gus was pretty outstanding too.
I’m new here and late on commenting. Yes kirill was pretty quiet tonight . But still had an assist. We’ve become spoiled having Kap having 2 pts a night and that’s quiet. Hopefully the goals start a coming asap though

Judd said this wasn’t a Kirill game and I couldn’t agree more. Had a couple good looks but just couldn’t finish. Excited for him to take over his first game this year. Wild hockey is at its best when 97 is at his best!

We're glad to have you as part of the community Eric! One of those nights where Matt Boldy just completely took over. I don't worry too much about Kirill, one of the keys this year will be nights where he is "quiet" if other guys step up and score they will be able to navigate it, and tonight line 2 definitely did that.
The 3rd line speed, or lack thereof, is going to be an issue against better teams. Kirill seemed to be pressing a bit and trying too hard. Maybe holding his stick too tight 😂.
I wonder if there was any impact to their play regarding playing against old coach and a team who lost Johnny. Definitely a respectful, non-chippy game.
