When I'm in a REALLY good place and doin' just fine', I LOVE listening to songs of misery, Well right now things could not be any better, So this song gets sung time and again by Me.
This is what GOOD country is like This is also sort of blues as well. Suggest Johnny Cash for an easy source of a massive list of great country songs. Most modern country just isn't the same.
Edward Wesson also nick Nolan. He's like this but a bit more dark and hard. Also just search dark country and look for a playlist and there ya go, hours of badass music for your enjoyment forever and ever.
I stumbled from the woods after nightfall Soaked in crimson red from head to toe I slaughtered all I saw and showed no mercy I'm not the least concerned with where I have to go I return to find my house burning brightly They've raped my wife and killed my only son I return from war a victor for my country But was repaid with the deaths of those I love So darling, won't you take my hand in marriage? Walk with me across the fiery line Cause I'm headed straight to hell for what I've done And I could use a little of your precious company I found the ones that took me from my child And I did the deed that was to seal my fate In the background I can hear satan's laughter And I know deep down inside that hell waits So darling, won't you take my hand in marriage Walk with me across the fiery line Cause I'm headed straight to hell for what I've done And I could use a little of your precious company I could use a little of your precious company
I was commenting on a scientist from Germany says we need to give up oil, coal and our cars within the next 13 years to save the world. My response was, "as soon as you purchase your heavy horses to till the land, I'll listen." I was talking about the song, Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull. I UA-camd it and discovered this group. Glad I did. Just added another great group that doesn't sound like Katy Perry. Always looking for that great group out there. Thanks for the post.

Checking in from a McDowell county hotel in WV. used to be a stone mason in Gilbert. Americana and folk have heavy roots here - entirely much more than the shit people call county these days. check out lost dog street band.

I stumble from the woods after nightfall, soaked in crimson rain from head to toe. I slaughtered all our soul and showed no mercy. I'm not the least concerned with where I have to go. I returned to find my house burning bright. They've raped my wife and killed my only son. I return from war a victim for my country. And was repaid with the deaths of those I love. So, darling, won't you take my hand in marriage. Walk with me across the firing line. 'Cause I'm headed straight to hell for what I've done here. And I could use a little of your precious company. I found the ones that took me from my child. and I did the deed that would just seal my fate; in the background I can hear Satan's laughter and I knew deep down inside that Hell awaits. So, darling, won't you take my hand in marriage and walk with me across the firing line? I'm headed straight to hell for what I've done here and I could use a little of your precious company.
The woman he is asking to mary Is Eris or Erida the Greek goddess of Vengeance and hate. It's from the illiad He takes her as his Bride. The implication is that he has doomed himself to never again see his wife and child again. Because he can never get into heaven She tempts him with the comfort of vengence when he's lost in grief. he can either take the red right hand of vengance or the black and ashen left hand of grief. if he tales the right he's doomed.
Faith versus Works In the deliberation on how we may find salvation the paths of Faith or Works find themselves in contention to the most important of questions we may ask. Each party claims to have the monopoly on the truest of truth. And in the end the two toil together to bring about the same goal as Faith brings one into the cage while Works keeps one trapped within.
I hope this doesnt sound too stupid, but I wanna know how everyone else interprets this song, other than just being about/based on a pre-existing story. Especially this part: "So, darling, won't you take my hand in marriage, Walk with me across the firing line? 'Cause I’m headed straight to hell for what I've done here, And I could use a little of your precious company" Personally, I think it refers to his wife. I was under the impression she was also killed, and if that's the case, he could be asking her spirit for strength to carry out his revenge, and taking his hand in marriage means they're uniting as husband and, in spirit, wife to achieve this revenge together (instead of him literally proposing to a girl). So when he's facing death, he feels comfort thinking her spirit is with him, supporting him like his angel, and they'll reunite in hell because she "helped" him by giving him the strength to do it. And if she didn't die, then that's still another badass love story Basically, I was confused as to why 1. He'd be asking for his wife's hand in marriage (because they're already married), assuming she wasn't killed, or 2., if she was killed, why he'd ask for another girl to marry him so soon, especially because he's going to hell for avenging his first wife. I mean I'd hate to be in that woman's position, where this guy is like "hey, I killed a bunch of people because they killed my family, wanna get married and go to hell with me so I'm not alone?" I'm sure his wife would also be rolling over in her grave, knowing her husband is marrying someone else right after he kills her murderers. Maybe I'm missing something, but if anyone wants to share their own take on the story, I'm listening :) And yes, I am thinking about this too much, but I just love the story it tells (or my interpretation of it)
I know I'm a month late but I always thought he was proposing to a girl years after the murder of his family and he has finally accepted his fate and grief. and he knows that he is going to die soon either because of old age disease or old enemies whatever. and since he knows he is never going to see his wife and child again (because they are in heaven) he is asking a woman (who has probably done some sinning herself) to go to hell with him so that they wouldn't be so alone in their endless suffering.
He's talking about the greek goddess of Vengance called Nemeses. And the two hands the red right hand of vengance and the black left hand of grief. Its all from Homer. Hope this finds you.
I always interpret the song as the protagonist thinking back to when he asked his wife to marry him and starting a family before they were all murdered. It’s a song about him missing his family and how he will never be complete but he condemns himself to hell anyway so he can take revenge. The song takes place right after he murders his wife and son’s killers for what they did to him.
I'm not a Christian but as an ex Pentecostal one of my favorite biblical lines is "Whosoever sheddeth a mans blood, by man may his blood be shed" An eye for an eye brother. The story of this song isnone of justice. Simple as that.
I am a Christian but another good bible verse that also applies here is "2 Corinthians 9:6 6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously" In other words you reap what you sow.
They don't tell people this but they used to play metal under a different band name about 10 years ago. the name of the song is very likely Slayer inspired.
