Its been over 3 months, quit alcohol, cigarettes, toxic friendships, a toxic romantic relationship, fornication, and drugs pushed on me by my ex. This month quit weed, watching my speech and trying not to cuss so much. My room has always been very clean and beautiful but I have cleaned up my living room(and basically whole house)and even painted it last weekend and it looks beautiful! I give some credit to JP, but most of it to God for inspiring me and a good chunk of credit for myself. Once you get past the first month, for my experience at least- the hardest part is over. Just gets easier from there! Some results have been ; saving money, lost weight, feel more emotionally balanced, increased mental clarity , better employee and role model. Life is so much better!!💜

This is not the first time he proposed this experiment / challenge and I am curious if anyone gave it a serious shot. It is actually very hard to get a "mistake free" month, but the very act of giving it a conscious try will make that month way more productive than average. Keep in mind that you play this game by your own rules and definitions. Failing could be eating crappy food, wasting half your day, drinking, or failing to make that one appointment. It really depends on what you think about when you seriously ask yourself what the most stupid things are that you are doing on a regular basis.

It doesn't have to be a month, 21 days, or 1.5 lunar cycles , and you've won. I've done it , and then relapsed, kinda cyclical, but the relapse and indulgence span get shorter and shorter - rising early, timely meals, adequate sleep, #nofap, no sugar, no caffeine, social network content consuming timed and limited to 2 hrs a week...

    • @joshy3104
      @joshy3104 5 років тому +8

I've been running things slow, trying to do one or two things a day.
Roughly at 2 weeks now. Lil over.
Got my room a bit more organized. Couple more things to do.
Significantly dropped caffeine and thc intake. Working on lowering nicotine and sugar as well.
Closer to 3 weeks actually, because I got a solid 2 weeks in doing +1 pushups each morning (started 5 mon, 6 tues, 7 weds, etc). Made it to 20. Missed 21. Did 10 on '22'. Also got bike fixed then, so been more tired last couple days. Not getting rides to work.
Cleaning apt/room also help drop 'dead time' when I'm scrolling over the same shit on fb for 20 mins.
I dunno. It's a work in progress, but I'm digging it thus far.

Yeah tried that and am redoing it every few months. First days are hard, the next week is still hard, third week is bearable, final week it is ok. The benefits feel more and more as it comes closer to the end of the challenge month. Keeping a calendar ( by circling every day at the end) and keeping a diary helps alot.
For example for me that month consist of, no caffeine, no sugar, no junk food, no gluten, no indulgencies ( video games, youtube etc), no alchohol, no dairy. It is hard, but at the end of the month you feel like you actually have a control over your life. And if you chose to reintroduce stuff, if you are metodical, grateful and mindful about it it will help. But over time, such is the nature, one will spiral back sooner or later, that is where repeating the challenge after a few months come in place.
The cool thing about repeating it is that your body now knows the process and just accepts it.
The way to fill up the list of things you are going to stop doing is to be reasonable. Spend a month or so just calmly collectingthe things that "you should not do", the things that simply feel wrong, and then after a list is compiled just look over it and make a simpler reasonable list that you actually have a chance of following.
Final note, in order to prevent the "I'll start on monday, or I'll start on 1st" just make your own calendar that has 24-32 days in it that got nothing to do with the month or current day. For example last time I started thursday in the second week of the calendar month, and that was the first day in my calendar. This way you focus on whats important and that is actually going trough 24-32 days.
      good luck

@@mbfun9298 True story: few months ago I wanted to start a task I was avoiding at exactly 19:00 it was, I think. So as I had my timer ready this happened: 18:59:58, 18:59:59 and then 19:01:00 and I was like WTF it skipped a minute. And from that moment I learned there's never a perfect moment. Don't wait for things to be perfect first. Just do it. My week starts on Wednesday.
I also have this list of things I should stop doing (similar items as yours) but it also includes things I should stop believing and saying. I consider the elements on this list as ''my dead woods that need to burn off'' referring to what JP said about self-transformation. And yes, you need to be methodical about it. You need to keep score, physically. You need to know when you are off course and you need to know why. Are you failing because you are setting the weekly targets too high and thus playing the tyrant OR.. have you not specified your aims and kept them foggy and as a result you don't follow through on your plans? Or is the why just not strong enough? Maybe you're not doing it for yourself but to please others? Are there any short-term benefits / rewards to be gained for your efforts to keep you going, day in day out, or is everything due some distant ''a year from now'' which allows you to procrastinate for 11 months? Are there any obstacles and temptations like alcohol / drugs / women / youtube that could sabotage your progress and should be removed right now? Do you need to walk away from a relationship / friendships permanently or temporarily to sort yourself out? The things need to be addressed and integrated in the framework. I am now 2,5 months in and my benefits are: smarter and learn things quicker, more focused, higher awareness, more decisive / courageous, (more) disciplined, more confident, less stressed and anxious, better memory, more organized and more energized. If you're interested, we could be accountabuddies to hold each other accountable and motivated and share some ideas.

Ahmar Khan time to stop doing nothing for a month. Make sure that every day you did at least one useful thing, no matter how big or small. Before the end of the day do at least 1 small thing that contributes to your life in some way, and more important of all be thankful that you at least did something that day.

I think church leaders that genuinely want to help their congregation need to make a point of regularly listening to Dr. Peterson.
What I mean by this is a little less focus on the spiritualism/mysticism and more practical application and philosophy contained in their canon.
Is Dr. Peterson is sad, many people to come to him have told him that it’s as if he is saying things they have known all their life, it’s just he’s putting it in a way they can understand that’s applicable.

Video games are only harmful if you prioritise them above important things.
Video games are certainly a lot of fun, but they are not _important_ - you don't actually _need_ them. So you should only play video games and do other recreational activities when you have finished your important tasks.
