Great to see that your vision has improved enough to allow you to go anywhere near or do anything with venomous snakes. When things were at their worst, I figured we may have seen the last of Hansler and rattlesnakes. Glad I was wrong.
Bob cannot see very well unfortunately. Creative video shooting and editing though can make it seem otherwise. He is down, but not out.
When I go fishing, I like to keep my catch in one of those traps/buckets so that my catch stays alive as long as possible. Works way better than those clips that goes through their mouth/gills. So far, I've never had a snake swim into one, but because of your videos, I'm educated enough to check my trap for snakes before I reach in for my catch. Thanks for a great video. xoxo from Arizona.

Hey Bob just wanted to say I loved the video, I know the vision situation is still a big issue but I wanted to say that watching this video you can't even tell that you are haveing trouble seeing, you guys did an amazing job, keep up the awesome work!
Appreciate it. Lots of takes. And transitions where there should be none to cover up fumbles (attaching the second clip on the trap). Working through it and figuring tricks at every turn to make this work. Still have the ability to make out distinct objects a bit, which helps... but things as obvious as a crawdad mound are lost to me now.

THANK YOU so much for this video!!! I have been handling snakes for over 40 years, but for the first time in my life, I was faced with a copperhead in my garden. I had no way to safely catch this creature. I looked at it for a long time, trying to think of a safe way to do so, but I just didn't have the resources. It broke my heart to kill it. It was beautiful and it's not the snake's fault that its dangerous, but I just couldn't have a venomous snake in my yard. It still makes me sad. I've bought a snake tong which I should have this weekend, but this is certainly another wonderful option I never would have thought about. Thank you so much. I've loved snakes since a very young age. I don't want to EVER need to feel that I have to kill another one.
Bob, I learned in Herpetology that rattlesnakes will "home", that is return to their home range, if not taken at least 50 miles! While the young ones are going to disperse- especially the males- older ones have a strong instinct to return. The large ones you moved in another video are going to end up right back on your patio.

I go pig hunting down in Pearsall at my buddy Pete's twice a year. To be honest, we kill the rattlers around the ranch house but he freezes them for me and I make belts and holsters out of em. Good videos. You seems like a pretty down too earth dude. Maybe our paths will cross someday.

What do you recommend using as bait for these traps?
We watched your video, thanks for the great info. We ordered the Gee's traps and are a little concerned with the size hole. We live on a ranch with a high number of rattle snakes that we are hoping to catch and relocate. With the small size hole, will we only be able to trap small rattlesnakes?
Putting him in a cooler with ice would slow him down...not needed with that beautiful little guy....nice job!

Seems like it would be easier and safer if the minnow trap maker would just make caps or plugs for the cone ends so you never have to open the trap until you are ready to do the release.
The minnow trap was not designed to be a snake trap. It just so happens that experts like Bob and other research organizations can use their knowledge to safely handle snakes once they enter the trap. You would not catch me dealing with venomous snakes even with three full length extensions.

Greg Popovice I've trapped 5 non-venomous snakes with it who were dining on my koi in my small, backyard pond. Had to place the traps in the trunk of my car to drive to the release location, hoping they wouldn't escape. Manufacturers could make extra money selling caps.

A 1 inch wooden dowel ran all the way through both holes works nicely. Secure the dowel with a string or cord looped over the trap.
What did you use for bait? Egg or mice
Once you catch them in the trap why not just roll it and transfer into a plastic bucket with a gamma seal lid, you wont need to worry about strikes thru the mesh. Great tip on using the trap thank u

what was the bait to catch the rattlesnake?
I'd like to see more knot typing videos. I need to string a line between two trees and I can never get the line pulled tight enough. It always sags way too much. And because of the wind it seems that the knots I use loosen and the line sags even more. On one side I tie a square knot, but I'm not really sure what to do around the other tree. Also suggestion: I have been told that stuff like kangaroo rats(pack rats), have 650 k/cal per 400grams of meat. Would it be possible to do a lesson on making pemmican from said meat or even dry-cured sausage which can act as a ration?
I'll hit on pemmican after a while, but know that it is more of a settler food rather than applicable for survival. When surviving, eat everything, keep eating, all the time. Store your food as fat on your body. Storing meats is far down the list in those circumstances. Good question though.
Lots of stuff I was taught when I was younger was to always take 25% of the kill/catch and try to make jerky or other dry meat from it, in order to make sure you can keep going even in the worst of circumstances.
It is a good sentiment. Give it a bit of thought though. What sounds logical is not always practical.

Ive had some interesting pemmican. In my recipes it has been important to pay attention to the amount of fat/oil. Rancid oil becomes the contents. Making the appropriate steps and adding ingredients that discourage microbial growth is the trick. Will be showing some primitive hard tack videos in the stone oven in the coming months.

Marginal in one eye and nothing in the other. I have only one partially working eye... I don't know how long it will keep working. Pray for technological advances to replace mine, they are damaged beyond repair in most ways in afraid.

Bob And Shauna, Standing ovation to both of you. By far the most informative and inventive video using the Gee's G-40 products for snakes. I think I would put three full extensions on for distance between myself and a rattler.LOL. Most definitely would not catch me using black vinyl or any other traps for this.

Would not recommend a chum cage for relocation. Huge needless risk and the visibility for the snake is stressful. They like shelter. A bucket with a lid is the best option. You can throw it in the back of you truck no problem. Mesh and putting into the cab with you is recklessly dangerous. No matter how careful you are, we are human. It only needs to happen once. Using a bucket and even a snake hook is just safer than using your hands. Common gloves are not good for blocking venomous snake bites. Snake proof gloves or heavy duty leather gloves or welding gloves offer better protection. Again Snake hooks are better, just removing your hands from the equation.
Also using a mesh trap is a risk in of itself for the snake. Rattle snake are not apex predators. So a mesh trap is a magnet for predators to break in and eat the snake through the cage. The temperature too can kill them because they cant thermal regulate in the trap.
Why do you want to relocate that your making it someone else's problem being it's venous snake
I can not stand western diamond back rattlers. They always get into the garage and take over my fishing gear
