First off.. its not at 6700 ft as that is the Mt Peak miles away. This course is in a valley at around 3500ft. This short golf course has been around for 50 years. New owners with no course ownership experience came in about 18 months ago and have made minor improvements. Sadly… as a cost cutting measure a few Sand Traps have also been removed. Rates were also greatly increase and its now being marketed as ‘a resort’. Its anything but that… is a short simple course with many of the holes running side by side in the flat valley. This section reminds me of many municipal courses in towns all across the south. The course is fun to visit however now that this $42 course is charging $70.00 I will not be back.
Hey! My Name is Richard McKinney and Im the proshop Manager here at Mt Mtchell golf course. The Course was sold over the past wintertime and I would love to invite you back to come do another replay here with some of the changes that we have made. We are no longer a Cart Path only course and there has been a lot of maintenance that has taken place since this video. By the way, your video of our place is awesome! We feature it regularly on our TVs in the proshop. You do a great job of describing the course and some of your visuals are amazing. Again, thank you for making this video and we would love to have you back out when you can! Just reach out to me and I will help you out!
Hey Richard thanks for leaving a note! I would love to come back out but honestly I'm not sure when I would have the time as I now live in Charlotte so it's a bit of a longer hike to get that way. I can try and find some time in October maybe? I'll send you all an email with some headsup if I end up finding some time in the schedule! Thanks for taking the time to leave a message!
It’s quite fabulous to see this course so well documented with a variety of shots and greatly placed camera angles. Well done Alan! Played here 2y ago from the tips, shot 80 something . I would sure hope they have kept the resources to keep up this mountain course, it has serious potential to be a phenomenal track.
Thanks for the full 18 hole vlog, much prefer those and what an amazing round of golf. BTW you are no longer an average golfer, you have progressed well into the PerfectlyGoodGolf range and I dont see you backing up anytime soon.
Hahaha cheers man and thanks for the feedback, there's another video coming out soon that will be all 18 holes; will see how the #s do and possibly pivot if the feedback stays the same tbh
Played here twice, including last October on our yearly fall golf outing. Love the layout and the beauty this place offers. It’s spectacular in the fall with the foliage.
Love the channel Alan! Coming up from Florida to play Sequoyah National in late October. I want to play at least one other course in the area. Any "must plays" between Greenville and Cherokee? Thanks!
Oooo I'd say up around Sequoyah you should definitely hit up Maggie Valley or if you're up for a bigger challenge check out Laurel Ridge. Both are in that same general direction. Otherwise on your way through Greenville check out The Preserve at Verdae; really tough track but really fun. I've got videos on all 3 if you want to take a look at em!
Never played the course but have been to the summit parking lot twice. Both times I was in the clouds and could barely see to the other side of the parking lot! One of these times I will see the amazing views up there.
Weird how those real good rounds surprise us sometimes. You might go in not feeling it, or like here with no practice and anticipate a not so great round and boom....you break 80. Of course there is the opposite too, where you're feeling good, swing seems to be all in sync and you did well on the practice range before the round and then....sh*t falls apart. Got to love this game. Very nice round sir...great finish. Your putting saved your bacon...which is a bit unusual eh?? 😁 Appeared to have some friendly golf mates too which helps. I can appreciate putting in the practice and getting the results. I have watched you from almost the beginning and have seen the improvements - good stuff brother. I myself have not been able to golf since March due to some health issues, but have been able to work on my short game and just now getting back to hitting my irons about 75% power. Seems like my game is really coming together - well my short game anyway. I can't wait to get on the course at least a few times before winter hits. For now...I watch channels like yours. Yeah so I very much enjoying these videos mate keep them coming.
damn dude hope you feel better soon! And yeah that's so relatable to feeling good before the round then playing terrible or vice versa. I had the best range session of my life when we were in Columbus not too long ago and then proceeded to not be able to get off the tee box without penalty on the course lol
Who. is. this. guy?! Great job Alan!! What a round, great ball striking and putting, so well deserved score. I mean off-brand :P but… Love the production as well!
Hey 77 is the year I graduated from high school. Not even close to my best round. Great round. 90 is my best round for the record. like the new format.
Awesome course. We played it this summer. I liked everything about the course except it’s cartpath only 99% of the year. My parents struggled with all the walking with elevation.
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf Just stating a fact… you mislead people when you keep talking about “10 extra yadrs” due to elevation. The course is in a valley at apprx 3,000 ft, Charlotte is at roughly 800ft.
I love your channel! The last time I played Mt Mitchell they'd lifted the cart path only restriction. Yes, it's a beautiful course but can be a bit soggy even during a rain free week. I'd love to see you venture over into East Tennessee and review some of their courses.
Congrats on a great round; Alll the work is paying off! What a beautiful course & the highest elevation golf East of the Big Muddy! Some really great vistas and a better than perfectly average round of golf. I played this course about 2 years ago just after a rain and it was a soggy cart path only mucky mess. Great #16 hole on the Par 3, those bunker bounces can be tricky but you missed the geese & carded a nice birdie. Your great drive on #17 set up for a perfect approach over the water and short birdie putt. I think #18 was your best hole I've seen of all your Vids and a nice 3 bird finish got to feel good. Excellent they have lifted the cart path only restriction & really nice you got a personal invite back!

Back in the day it was super nice

Really fun to see someone have a great round where things come together for them. Awesome job!!
Cheers! Couldn't have asked for a better day and a better round!
Must be a major PITA to film. do commentary , and to stay focused on each shot. I couldn't do it Gotta admire PAG's great attitude.

Apparently they have a new owner who's working hard on getting the fairways back to normal without all the crab grass
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf that was exactly what I was referring to as well. But man the views are simply spectacular and breathtaking .
Glad you finally made it out there. I’ve been wanting to play their again!! Awesome round!!!
Cheers thanks! And yeah it's been on my list for awhile, just never committed to the long drive to get up there lol

Yeah it was a murky day after I got off the course unfortunately otherwise I would have gone to the summit myself lol

We’ve stayed and played at Mount Mitchell twice. Great views and very good golf!!
The views really are great, wish the course woudl have been a BIT more manicured but with all the rain it was still a treat!

RIGHT? Surprised myself big time haha

Cheers on the format feedback! Might be moving to more of these full 18 hole rounds instead of the 2 parters; we'll see how the #s compare.
Banking off the bunker is going to have to be my go to shot from now on. 😂
Hahaha right???
I’m playing MM tomorrow. Played in a junior am tourney back in the late 90’s. Those were the days…
Oh sick how'd you play???
Good job 77 is my best ever score as well..
💪
This is top-tier content man - You deserve a whole lot more subscribers.
Cheers! We're on that small and humble grind haha
LET’S GOOO!!!!
HUUUUGGGGEEEEE
The peak of Mt. Mitchell is 6700 ft. But the golf course itself is at about 3700 ft. A difference of only 3000 ft. 😅
So pretty much the same thing really /s lol
Great course I almost got a hole in one on 2 the 1st time I played there
The guy I was playing with said he was behind a group the day before I filmed that had a hole in one there too lol
Awesome course. We played it this summer. I liked everything about the course except it’s cartpath only 99% of the year. My parents struggled with all the walking with elevation.
Yeah it was cart path only when I was there as well; seems pretty common
Mt. Mitchell Resort is no longer cart path only. Come back and play again soon!
‘at elevation” ? Its in the valley at 3100 ft.
Dude what is your issue? You just keep instigating shit in the comments? That's your thing??

Calling a penalty on you for your backhanded sweep and drag the missed putt on 14, not a clear strike on the ball. 😊
NOOOOOOOOOOOO 😑
The golf course is at about 3000 ft

Heck of a round, not an easy course
One of those days where everything was falling lol
