Sorry for my horrible voice acting. :D
What? Canoe is evolving!
Canoe has evolved into Bote!
Just what I needed!
regarding buoyancy, I just make my realistic ships from alloy only. Multiple layers around the whole hull. A narrowish canal in the middle of the ship to put important stuff in. Using this, I built a 50k mat corvette that can take on most campaign crafts 2-2.5x its cost, based off the nanuchka class, so I think it's decently effective.
In real life, the heaviest things like fuel and water are at the very bottom of the ship. Additionally, they are designed such that when they roll, the side rolling into the water gains buoyancy, which creates a righting moment. Finally, like you said ballast tanks are used to keep the ship balanced, and roll stabiliser fins are used as well in some cases like cruise ships (for a nice ride)
Anyway, finishing this would be good to watch, a start ship sounds cool.
Tip: make prefabs of different triangle wedges (like 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 3x2, etc) and the inverted wedges to make building smooth realistic hulls not a pain.
Who are you and what have you done with the Canoe Master? If you are being held hostage please let us know by APS morse code.
P.S. I believe Kipalo has a really good tutorial on how t measure and recreate real world boats from photos for his USA vs. Neter campaign.
Also... do you build Canoe's or Ganoe's (Gheenoe)... I was always told a gheenoe was just a canoe with an engine on it but i guess it's more specific than that.
Everything is fine with BorderWise, he has food and water in his containment cell and a plush canoe for emotional support. :D
Also thanks for the Kipalo tip, I'll check it out. 👍
A canue with old steam boat style paddle wheels on each side would count right? Would be terrible, but it would count lol😂
22:00 Pro tip: You can use the 3d mover things outside of the menu to eyeball the correct location/scale/rotation, then adjust the values in the menu to the correct ones. Especially for rotation, it's highly useful, as the axis of rotation a widget applies to is clearly visible when you use them.
Ohhhh, right, I forgot we can do that. Cheers! :D
10/10 would love to see again
Despite the difference in physics, I've found that building realistically shaped hulls and layouts (usually at a larger scale, like 1:1.5 or 1:2) makes for surprisingly effective ships, and actually helped me refine my building style a lot. The "minimum of 1 cubic meter" issue is offset by the jelly-ocean provided that the internal layout is also fairly realistic (plenty of empty space).
Basically, exact 1:1 realism is pretty bad, while realistically designed ships using FtD logic are excellent.
Good clarification! 1:1 If you stop worrying about exact sizes things get much more straightforward.
as a former german myself i like cats and nameing tanks after them
Neat! Do you also name cats after tanks? :D
hologram projectors my beloved, also would love a finished craft
Would love to see an ocean liner.
It's okay BorderWise, I don't like deco either. Darn kids. Back in my day we figured out how to make stuff look good with blocks. And we liked it!
I actually love them! Just crazy how we take 'em for granted now. XD
Bows give me so much headache all the time, they're so hard to do! Second would be the hull, i just can't figure out how to make a stable hull that won't capsize all the time.
real style dd is easier if you make the turret first then scale the ship off that, then slam in a 2 layer alloy waterline deck with as much of the heavy stuff under it as possible
Trying to make a damn axe bow boat has driven me insane
i am from germany and we still love great cats
-"it took me so long to build a replica of the USS Alaska, something like 6 hours"
- Me who takes 12 hours for a destroyer-sized airship: 😅
Looking back... it took me 8 hours. And yes, I do build quite quickly, thanks for putting it into perspective. 😅
Dont worry about Germans WW2 designations:
Tractors are Tanks
Cruise Liners are Battlecruisers
Torpedoboats are DD's
Cropdusters are Divebombers
My slow ship must go a minimum of 40 meter per second, so thats 144kmh/89mph... 😋😆
Snail's pace, I tell you! :D
Hmm so my mistake was making ships like how they are done IRL, i didn't knew neter's ocean is jelly.
The other major physics difference that you don't mention in that alloy isn't like aluminium. Density wise, *metal* is like aluminium, and alloy is basically magic.
Me still being here well age 30 ish and hasn't played around 5k ish hours and enjoying the joke, lol
Single blocks ☹️☹️ heresy! I think you might have mentioned why you started doing that but it hurts my brain. Overall I like how you got out of your comfort zone. I almost exclusively try to make somewhat realistic hull shapes for my ships and planes and idk it’s nice to see you do that.
Cheers! I've started easing up on single blocks because someone did the math for me and it doesn't make much difference health-wise whether you use (for example) 1 4m beam + 1m block or 1 3m beam + 1 2m beam.
I should probably do some armor tests, though. Explosions might cause a problem with that approach. 🤔
Who are you and what have you done with Borderwise...
Don't worry, he'll be back once he escapes from the canoe I chained him to. :D
Second
they are single gun adding dual cannons would have been wrong
Problem solved.
Mod idear: everything does less dmg and is less accurate-> ships dont have to go stupid fast, wood and alloy is only a little bit boyand-> less armor stacking leads to balanced weapon dmg-> real sized ships-> less lag in big battles-> everything looks better and not over sized
Also 2 props are enough, every ship (ww1-2) faster than 20 m/s is unrealistic and stupid.
