    This is great advice for us normal ADV riders. I’ve done Chris’ courses on,one, but having you share your experience, and someone much closer to my experience and skills level, compared to Chris’, adds a very useful context snd relatable feedback. Some interesting feedback in the comments too. I really appreciate this. We don’t get better if we can’t be modest and self-critical. You’re a role model.

      @@FeathersOffroad And more coming. Thanks for taking the time to make the vids. I make YT videos too and appreciate how exponentially easier it is to do this training without recording it, editing it, and getting it published. Appreciate you!

    Super ideal learning space you have there! Its a great "Runway" for wheelies. Awesome content !

    Thanks for posting this. I was messing around on my new 890 R and it wants to wheelie 100% easier than my 390. I was worried it would loop easily but from the comments I need to be in 3 or 1 MTC. I ride in Rally mode with Off-road throttle because I feel street is way too jumpy

    With this bike's power, getting the wheel up seems easy but man I love this bike , maybe I should try off road lol sweet video, When you said pull the bike up with your arms. That's exactly how I felt until I watch this video.😅

    how do you not hang on the bars and not twist the throttle too much 😅

    Suffering the same in my T7. Can easily pop a wheelie in my Enduro bike (super softer suspension) or in tarmac with the T7, but since changing suspension, it's stiffer now, it shows I do not time well the jumping with the clutch dropping and slide the rear all the time.

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  2 роки тому +1

      the timing is tricky. Are you loading up the suspension with a jump-like move? I found its better to drop the clutch a little before the bottom of the compression. Also you have to be going pretty slow to do it this way.

    Just barely started trying myself. But I am nowhere near this. All I ever felt was: "How am I supposed to hold on to the handle bars?" - the tug feels SUPER heavy. On a 1999 XL600V TransAlp. Any tips?

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Рік тому

      a couple thoughts, i would try to only use one finger on the clutch and brake. Maximum two fingers. any more than that and you wont be able to hold on to the bars.
      next thought is that you should practice the two moves separately. Practice a standing jump to the point where you could even do a standing jump with one hand on the bars. Practice until the jumping is boring and your balance is great. After jumping is boring, practice the throttle and clutch motion. small revs with a clutch dump and then back on the clutch. if done correctly on flat ground you should get some good wheel spin.
      then when you put the two moves together, do the clutch dump at the bottom of your standing jump. the wheel spin combined with the suspension rebounding should lift the front wheel off the ground. Be careful not to lose control at this point, this is where covering the clutch and rear brake will become very important. Hope that helps!

    I bought Chris vids. I was practicing last Saturday and almost looped bike. I hammered rear brake to save it. Remember micro adjust. Came down too fast hard and went over handle bars. Glad low speed. But 5 days later wrist still hurts. That was warming up. Then went on a ride for three hours vid at Foxymcrider. Hard to practice when we just want to ride.

    What ride mode did you have the motorcycle in. If my 890 isn’t in rally mode it won’t wheelie

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  2 роки тому

      Always in rally mode, but i typically experiment in 1 or 3 for traction control. Im trying to remember but i think i was in 1 for most of this video.

      @@FeathersOffroad thanks - I'm with 790 ADV whiteout rally mode trying to figure out the best configurations to my (lack of) skills.😄

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Рік тому +1

      same here! I usually ride in TC 3, but I couldn't lift the front at all unless it was 1 (off). Also, i think the 790 is the same, but there is "Rally" mode but also throttle response. "Rally" throttle response is way too much imo. So I am in rally mode with Street throttle (this was suggested by Chris Birch when I took that class with him)

    I took Chris's course this summer and have been practicing this on my 790 R, the major problem I have been having is that I always end up sitting once the wheel comes up. I cannot seem to stay standing no matter what I try. Have you had this problem? If so, any tips on how to stay standing. Also, are you doing this in offroad mode or rally throttle mode?

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  2 роки тому +1

      I was doing this in rally mode, street throttle response, traction control set to 1. There is also a rally throttle response, but that was really twitchy for me. (Chris also said he used street throttle response, so i left it there during class). I havent found myself sitting yet, so I cant make a useful comment on that.

    Get on a small bike for a day jus t to get the timing down and the feel, then go back to 890.

    Hey bro, what gear are you in and the mtc setting in this practice?

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  2 роки тому +3

      This was in first gear and traction control set to 1. I was doing runs with it set on either 1 or 3. It was much more difficult on 3 (which is usually what I use on gravel roads)

    Cheats way, if going super slow, dab front brakes, dump clutch just before bottom.
