Almost every person citizens or otherwise are property owners . Civil servants, ministers are no different. Besides Ministers' tenure are for 5 years. Will he dare put in policies that are detrimental to him when he leaves office?? If public policies benefits them it should also benefit the majority of Singaporeans so why is there a conflict of interest?? We must also recognised that all property owners (90% of Singaporeans ) are always fearful of cooling measures to the property market because it will depress property prices and government has done it so many times before. While government can control policies they cannot control market forces which will depend on the supply and demand factors as some cooling measures did not work so well. Still it is easier for government to influence the supply and demand for housing to effect the price. So are citizens going to blame government for not selling enough land or building insufficient HDB flats so as to raise the price of properties?? So should government sell all state land today knowing that the value of money will drop over time?? There is no end to these witch hunts and circular arguments It all boils down to trust. So citizens have to decide where they want to place their trust and on which party . So it boils down to track record so the answer is obvious.

Many were affected by it and relocated to HDB flats which they were not accustomed to it I also remember that later even a Minister had his land acquired and he took legal action against the government and lost. However, UBS Trustees may also be eligible to seek a remission of the 65% additional buyer’s stamp duty (ABSD) under certain conditions.

PJ you hit the nail on the head with your property example but you also shot yourself in the foot. 90% of Singaporeans are property owners so if PAP increase their property prices they should be the best government. No property owner ( 90% Singaporeans) is going to depress their wealth in property so that coffee is 20 cents cheaper.
As for affordable housing for citizens, salaries will increase over time and government will ensure HDB remains affordable because the young are not starting from zero base. They have parents who already own properties for them to inherit.
So PJ your property e.g. gave them a solid reason to vote PAP
