  • Flight review of my winter/spring build project, the full composite airworld 2m ME-262, twin 90mm EDF. Now I'll say right at the start this video was a rush job, so its not the usual standard of presentation, but I had a lot of good flights with her today so wanted to post my initial review.
    I say initial as, (as noted in the video) this model is not yet finished. It sports a temporary scheme just for the test flying portion of its career. Now that I'm getting it dialed in it will have a full Luftwaffe scheme applied later this summer, but for now here she is.
    I have created a retroactive build thread on RCG and will cover points and details of the build there and update when I apply the new scheme, it can be found here:
    www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...
    Basic spec are:
    - 2m span, full composite airframe from Airworld.
    - running 2 x Wemotec 90mm fans with inrunners (HET 650-68-2000kv)
    - using 2 x 130amp HV esc and 6S 6200mah lipos per side, pulling approx 104amp at full throttle, flight times 5+ mins.
    - AUW RTF 8.4kg
    - Robart electric retracts (105 degree nose, 85 degree mains)
    Big thanks to Frank Born from Germany for all his help in this build and for the wondering ducting and motor mount designs and 3DP parts. Thanks to Patrick in Austria for his help and cut files for the battery bay plywood parts and to Dave on RCG for his help too and of course Andries on the camera for this video.

    Great job Stuart, nice to see another alternative out there to the HSD in composite. Excited to see it all painted and complete.

    Thankyou Stuart that's lovely. Always a quality build from yourself. Keep the speed up on landing and it'll fine. Always good that as a advancing nation the Germans used fairly large wheels on their aircraft to facilitate grass runways. Translates to very practical scale models.

      Thanks, yes I have to agree. I was flying her again this evening and the grass had not been cut but she still coped well.

    What an amazing job Stewart! So glad to see you posting on your channel. This must have been a labor of love. Just the same and I had problems with my robarts also. No quick fix from what I'm understanding. Keep those videos coming. Really really enjoyed this video. Sounds amazing. Take care

      Thanks. On the Robart retracts I did manage to improve it, virtually remove all the slop but after a few flights it came back again! I removed the threaded aluminium bars the retract sides are bolted into and filed half mm off each side. This removed all the play from the trunnion in the housing but unfortunately the slop in between the trunion and worm gear could not be removed at all. Next time I’ll just go with Electron.

    Just finished a large scale Mk IX Spitfire. Went ahead with the full invasion striped camouflage livery before the maiden.

    Nice to see another video! Spectacular model, has great presence in the air. It sure deserves nice paint scheme (and a little Kettenkrad to tow it to the runwaw ;) ). Rcg build thread would be nice!

    the Czechoslovak roundel must always have the blue stem forward and the white field up, or the white field towards the axis of the aircraft. it could be random.

    Brilliant Stu, absolutely brilliant! I really like the way you present these models, and WOW, that wing sweep photo was horrid!!! Are you planning on fixing that, I don't recall you mentioning that in the video. Of course, how could you fix that other than by sanding a bit off the front or rear mount? That model is indeed rough, but still flew wonderful. Cheers brother, all the best to you and yours!

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc  Рік тому +1

      Hey Man, yes actually that’s exactly what I had to do, which was disappointing considering the price you pay for these models. That being said that was pretty much the only surprise other than the flaps, not a issue to fix, but something that shouldn’t have to be fixed in the first place.

    What a great project Stuart. As you said quite the international effort. Looks to fly very smooth, although you fly most of them smooth so it could just be you! Lol. A really big EDF is on my list at some point. Very impressive flight time, and for our scale style of flying I'd say plenty of,power. The fit of the gear doors is splendid. I "think" Robart builds that bit of slop into the gear so if you run out of air the gear will gravity drop and lock as a safeguard. That is what a turbine flyer buddy of mine said about them anyway. I'm curious how you managed to fix the issue with the wing sweep? Was it purely an alignment issue with the front edge, or were the molds off from one side to the other? Anyway man...awesome airplane!

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc  Рік тому +1

      Hey Adam thanks and interesting note on the Robarts. not sure exactly why the wing was off but by sanding part of the LE away and then the diagonally opposite trailing edge at the wing center, I was able to get the wing much better aligned.

    Hi Stuart this is an incredible aircraft. Do you know of aircraft manufacturers that still make composite aircraft? I’d love something in 1.5m range. The company that make the Me262 don’t make anything that’s scale under 1.7m. Any info would be grateful-Ant

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc  Рік тому +1

      The only one I can think of is Savex, they make a nice L-39 for 90mm fan. There is also Sebart but the quality is not so nice. No comp 262’s sun 2m however.

    I'm a builder and love to know how much the airframe weights empy without landing gear and two speed controller two batteries, and it flys good for its weight

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc  Рік тому +1

      Can’t tell you that but I can tell you without batteries it’s approx 6.6kg. It’s a very light airframe for its size, but does need some reinforcing. I’ll cover that in my build thread (link in description).

  • @vrosi1963
