  • The Depot
Maghera Railway Station opened on the 18th of December 1880. It closed to passengers on the 28th of August 1950, the same year that Joe Devlin was born in Tamney Crescent in the town. The goods train ran on until the 1st of October 1959, when the sound of the train was heard in Maghera for the last time.
In 1990, at the age of forty, Joe bought a guitar in Danny Otterson's music shop, learnt a few chords, and started writing songs. The Depot was one of the first, inspired by childhood memories of the sights and sounds of the goods train, about a town with a station, but no train.
Harbour Annie recorded the song, and the video for it shows how the depot, and Maghera as a whole, has changed through the years.
    Written by Joe Devlin

My nana’s cousin lived in Maghera. I remember we’d often visit the garden centre that’s now beside the old train station.

Very well done. Nice historic photos of Maghera mixed with the present day town.
