1991 documentary about house music and its dance "house of Trez" featuring Peek A Boo, Link, Stretch, Caleaf, Peter Paul, Ramier, E-Joe, Voo Doo Ray, Marjory. They look so young!! - Розваги
To sonboogie...The name of the documentary is "House of Tres"...By the way I'm Marjory...The girl in this clip...This was about N.Y club kids & our experiences...If you can't relate to our experiences,I'm sorry...BUT...I am very proud to have been part of a collective that has inspied the world to dance...Peace!
KNOW LOVE thank you Queen Marjory!
Marjory, hell with these dumb f@*ks that don't understand or appreciate this amazing chapter in NYC house music/dance. You are gorgeous, and your dance is hypnotic. Bless you.
@@omarkhalil3662 Omar I really speak under correction, but I think this is Marjory Smarth, the renowned house dancer who passed away due to cancer in 2015.
@@michailsolomons2427 She is seen as a Queen when it comes to house. She dedicated so much of her life to it and her people within house. She will forever be venerated and uplifted the same way she has done for her people. Marjory’s contribution to the movement will be studied and handed down. May she continue to rest peacefully and may her spirit continue to live on through house.
Hi everybody!!! This is Marjory..I want to use this opportunity to clear things up..I want to thank Chicago for inspiring the world musically...BUT!!! This documentary is not about the whole house scene...If you saw the whole documentary there was a vogue section also..This documentary is about particular club kids & our experiences...
Yes, in the SF Bay Area back in the 80s - - "the California" some called it "the Guess" like the jeans-guess which side... Others called it "the Louis Vuitton" - as if one was making Ls & Vs as they shifted side to side... 🙏🙏🙏Thank all of yalls for the music, the dancing & the documentaries... 80s-90s were some great times 🙏🙏🙏
Brings back my memories of hanging at the Tunnel in the early 90s
On 23rd st.,I used be there every week.
its a PBS TV documentary from 1992 called "Alive TV", containing 2 parts: "House of Tre" and "Wreckin' Shop Live from Brooklyn"
Thanks 2 Majory Smarth 4 her contribution/s for the inception of some of the current African Styles of House/Club Music Dancing even now in 2011-2012. much respect. "let there be house"
RIP Voodoo Ray. Thank you for being a part of our dance culture. #HouseHeadForLife
Thanks for this. All of these great dancers never got the credit they deserved. All the videos they appeared in, trust me, we were vibin' with the dancers.
No disrespect to people from Chicago & some of you that were negative about this, but you didn't have anything to do with our growth as dancers...Most of of us in this documentary were able to come from street jams ,then to the clubs and now we've able to inspire the world...Try to see the positive in people sharing their part of the story..It may not be your story but it's ours & I'm proud to have been part of it!!! Peace..LIVE TRUE & DANCE FREE!
R.I.P Marjory & Voodoo Ray
What happened to Marjory? RIP.
RIP Marjory
How did she pass & when?
I remember those days. Wish I could rewind the tape and go back there.
Studio 54, sound factory , 1018,
Roseland red zone la mour east, club speed n more like Mars, eclipse palladium limelight tunnel sob's etc
Those was the days, but thank got so much collection of music from NYC
That I have collect has from disco ramma in the village w4 st NYC and another one down the block, man you talk about imports?
House Music is from Chicago
the dude at 3:47 was the epitome of house dancing to me before i really started to go out to clubs!!!
Got to go to clubs in my early teenage years, first time was in 90' The Marquee, very lucky to get in. i was burnt out at 20 and went to the air force in 96.
I still have many flyers!
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayum i miss those days!!!
First time I was ever in a club was at Red Zone in 1990. I recognize a few of these guys being in the club that night. As a matter of fact the girl Marjory was one of them, I see she passed RIP. They broke out a circle and everyone moved back to give them room. The club played The Poem and the smoke machine filled the floor. This square cage thing lowered from the ceiling while this insane light show flipped on when the speaking part of the Poem ended. I recall the dancers in the circle wearing those baggy suits and the big platform shoes that you saw in the Stomp video. What I remember most was Lisa Stansfield been around the world was playing outside as we were waiting to get in. I think Kenny Ken was on the rope. Once inside you had the dancers like in this video, the drag queen types, some hip hop people, wall street guys in suits, basically an very diverse group of late night people all dancing.
Folk don't dance nowadays. They just stand there & point with a slight bounce. usually with an IPhone or a beer can in the other hand.
Back in the day it was all about te music & the dancing.
bootsamou interestingly enough, Goodie Mobb made a song in the late 90s called “People Don’t Dance No Mo” - they were spot on
The music today dosen't motivate us enough.
Listening to the wrong stuff then.
@@brotherc.w.encino8716
Do you dance tho?
maybe you were at the wrong clubs, with the wrong music and wrong people?? maybe???
Dame, I'm having "Red Zone" and "Sound Factory" flashbacks!!!! :)
sound factory bar!! yes!
I loved Hip Hop, but my true love has been and always will be House.
I grew up amidst a lot of homophobic behavior so I had to chill since back then, House and Techno was equated to homosexuality.
I wish I had the courage back then to say “ain’t nothing gay about 4 on the 4 floor.”
sclSolitarium yo I feel that, I grew up thinking going to a house/techno music was “gay” till I went to my first show and it’s really just a bunch of “Free spirits” and hella drugs lol
FLEXXXX!!! Look how little he was!
DAMNNNNNN MY WHOLE CHILDHOOD/YOUNG ADULTHOOD 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽MISSSSSS THOSE DAYS!!!!!🤦🏽♀️💓
Thanks very much for uploading this onto youtube,
Had fun doin this back in the days
Thank You God
for HouseMusic!!!
Thank You for the History Lesson! I really enjoyed this.
I love this video!! I love that they mention The Red Zone and World clubs, unless its my friends that i use to hit up these clubs with? Alot of people don’t remember unless they were real house heads. Great video.
thank you, love this clip
Back in the 90's whenever you went to a club or house party there would always be a circle and a battle goin on !!!!! Shouts to all my "CASA HEADS"!!!!!
Had a great thyme in this video wish we could bring back those dayz! In this video: Alejandro Morales Jr, Caleaf Sellers, Christopher Sawyer , Donovan Niccola' Henry , Ejoe Wilson, Emilio Austin Jr, Link Elite Force Flex, , Marjory Smarth, Ron Paizley, Voodoo Ray
This is a short version/trailer of a documentary directed by Diane Martel. Rest of it will be in the book. LOL!!!
@ charles chinhicks: the track is by Aphrodisiac - Song Of The Siren. ....beautiful song!!
This was dope. ❤️
house is where the heart is at:)
It's funny how bad the early 90s fashion was...when you went to club they played dance music...and people danced...they didn't stare at the DJ and pump their fist. They played classics, r&b, hip-hop, and reggae all in the SAME party...beleeeedat!
U must be in hell because 90s fashion is back in full force
That's not 90's fashion at all. That's a mid/ late 80's version of early 80's GQ/Zoot Suit fashion. They were just being "classic" at that moment.
It be awesome to learn to dance HOUSE
oh my god! I love this documentary...everybody should whacht it!!!
I put it in myspace :)))
Part 1. House music did in fact start in chicago. However, house music evolved from disco, soul and loft music and all of that started in NY(except 4 the Europe speeded up re-edits). Record lables like West End, Sal Soul and Prelude were NY based lables. And Frankie Knuckles from the South Bronx brought those sounds to Chicago. Before House, we were calling it Club music, underground music and now we call it dance music since the music played isn't strictly just house.
Larry Levan, Boyd Jarvis, Timmy Regisford were doing it before Chicago. And, Frankie Knuckles brought the NY groove to Chicago. So in reality it started in NY.

yo flex came along way....back then hiphop paved the way for lots of people
So much KNOWLEDGE in the house! Can we still get this film???
SOMEONE HELP ME FIND THIS ON DVD!!!!!
how old is this clip? dang i need to start house dancing like now
i agree 1000%
you're are right. House is a melting pot of all cultures...all the elements existed before the term HOUSE...in my opinion.
@moshhon These dancers are decedents of the Hoofers & Lindy Hoppers, raised on the SAME SOIL, NYC/US....UK JAZZ DANCERS got there dance from the same people...that being said...the influence is from their elders not UK...remember there was no youtube back then....
youre right- song is called acid crash by tyree cooper. a close imitation done first by lil louis video crash
u should upload the whole movie.
@KyMace
IT'S A CLIP...OF A 45MIN LONG FILM...YOU'D SEE EVERYONE...IF YOU SAW THE "ENTIRE" FILM!

More San Francisco kids need to see this video cuz for some strange reason, they think they invented this style of dance. School these west coasters!
nice video and DAMN what is that song at 01:24????!!!! i need that track!
that looks cool...after all it's 1991...that's when i was born :D
@domisimon
I COMPLETELY know where you're coming from dude. Before, I used to go to Hip-Hop, Rock, & Gino Italian clubs with pretentious peeps. But the EDM scene found me...you don't find it --- ever. If you're chosen to discover the scene, your life will NEVER be the same. :-)
yup
hey Marjory I'm a big fan of yours from Africa... do you still dance? where can I watch the whole documentary? thaaanks
i had this documentary and lost it. been looking for it ever since 20 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyone have the name?
@bboygarrick you have 2 versions Acid crash by Tyree and video crash by Mike Dunn
YOOO thats the father from one on one
yo thanks fhmallo69!
positive!
house! came from disco breaks! back when america banned disco... it went underground into a warehouse in chicago and for short ppl called it the house!and so on...
Nah. The story of house is one the underground clubs in late 60s, early 70s NYC... NYer Robert Williams left NY, moved to Chicago and missed the NY scene. He purchased property and needed a DJ. He went to NY for that DJ. He wanted Larry Levan. But Levan and others declined. Eventually one said yes. The DJ's name was Frankie Knuckles and the property became known as the Warehouse. When Williams and Knuckles went their separate ways, Williams found another DJ, this time from the Chi. His name was Ron Hardy. And, the Music Box was born. All the while the NY scene cont'd to develop-Nick Siano, Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams, Greg Carmichael, Levan, Knuckles, Boyd Jarvis, Tony Humphries, David Morales... House Music is a NYC thing.
for more footage of nyc clubbies from 1991 search "club mtv." also search "new dance show" from detroit to see classic 80s/90s club dances. is there a chi dance show from that era? could only find chi disco from 78.
@doc362 yeah i wish i was from new york city , i just love that place, awesome vibe each time i go, though i have yet to find a "house club " there..maybe next time , in Toronto( where i'm from) we have so many..and meet so many great dancers and cool people, crystal waters...oh man she had some tracks back in the day!
I could swear I saw that beautiful woman circa '92 at Nell's in NYC doing an African dance and looking bad ass doing it too. Could it have been her? Even my ex-girl at the time thought she danced well.
+infg3570 That was Marjorie Smarth. House QUEEN :)
Marjorie and her girl Sylvia held it down. Peter Paul, VooDoo Ray, Adesola Osakalumi and so many more (xcuse not naming all the amazing talent). Best of Times with the Best of Dancers. Pass through the velvet curtain and get on the floor. Head to Chelsea Diner for a bite before heading home.....
Can anyone tell me song that is playing while Marjory is dancing? It's playing in the background from 3:07 to 3:39. I have it on one of my house mixtape from the 90s but I've never known the song.
Bobby Konders "Poem"
Where can I find this documentary?
DoubleDee this feature was originally on PBS’s , “ALIVE FROM OFF-CENTER” series,
this was , ‘The House of Tres’ director:Dianne Martel
word!
you a funny dude
I know half of these kids from back in the day! Wonder how they look now! Lol y’all see flex humble beginnings 😅
can someone please tell me the name of the track between 1:24-1:34? I need that song back in my Life!
Crl, massa!
btw, seems like most of the steps in Dee Lite Groove is in the Heart came from this scene. I firmly believed it was all early 70s psychedelic dance ...
Well yeah, it is a house song after all.
pardon me i mean video clash by lil louis however mike dunn did help on one of them they both came out around the same time lil louis version has more bass
@stephany9084 Original House Dancers? Where is their work? & can they still get down? Cuz many of the ones in these clips still get biz & have been teaching worldwide.
@171TITO the song played at 3:49 is video clash you have 2 versions of that song
finally the truth
2:58 Dj Sprinkles sampled the crowd cheering at the girl in "Ball'r (Madonna free zone)"
What a coincidence tu run into this video.
Haha! I noticed the exact same thing. I've only ever heard the track on one of Reverend Arkenstone's house mixes ua-cam.com/video/BxXt4t8h97s/v-deo.html, but watching this house dancing video just now, I knew I heard that part of the video somewhere before. The Sprinkles track samples the "Anyway" somewhere in there too. I love coming across unexpected things like this.
Flex is the man keep it real
generations
Can anyone tell me what track this is? @ 00:08 till 00:22 and (I think its the same track) @ 03:55 till 04:50....man, that track is nice!
yo when do they show link, caleaf or e-joe in this? I only recognized marjory and stretch lol. Marjory looks exactly the same today btw.
💌
WHAT IS THE NAME of the song that is played at 3:07 to 3:49??????
Thank god House dace has evolved into what it is today.
@TheAUDIOARCADE I still wear my Doc Martens (since mid 80's).Now my kids & their friends are rockin' them....oh yeah,I'm in Brooklyn
what's the name of the track that begins @ 3:55
in the UK 🇬🇧 most people are extremely conservative un dancing to house. it's only due to my advanced dance skills I'm more varied than the average British person
house music
House of Tre
I remember the Italians with the wrestling type sneakers kick dancing... LMAO - good times
whats the song at 3:16?
@TheAUDIOARCADE i see a heavy jazz dance (20's - 50's) influence on both northern soul and house. jazz dance which was developed in nyc (harlem at the savoy to be exact)... i think it's most likely that "house dance" style is derived from the jazz dance style (same geographical area - before internet as well) than the derivative northern soul style. the reason why they may look superficially similar is because they share the same root.
DjDedan northern soul?
That was "Crash" by Lil and the World, the remix
@haydenelrics Yes that was Flex. He used to dance for Latifah. He used the dance as a stepping stone to get into comedy
the baggy style of dress came out of the House scene, made its way over to Hip hop, cross mutation
PBS doc
Shouts to all my CASA HEADS!!!!!
