wow im surprised that the TLM and NO use 2 different liturgical calendars. honestly I think ordinary time is too long. I understand it lets us look forward to advent, lent, easter, and pentecost but it feels too long without something like lent or advent. I don't know how to explain it. All I know is I love our Catholic liturgy and its seasons.
No problem, all we made mistakes. On this topic i'm highly recommend "On the Holy Mass" by Dom Prosper Gueranger. Its a very good explanation of Mass in practical and symbolic terms. God bless
Another nice thing about the TLM churches that I've attended: They have the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) before EVERY Mass- Not just twice a week like the "newer Mass" churches I've been to.
I go to a church that offers the tridentine mass and they only have confession during the week twice a day. It's nice but not before the tridentine Mass...
Sacrament of PENANCE. The Vatican 2 religion calls it 'reconciliation' because they wanted to emphasize one being recorded reconciled with the community. Modernist drivel.
Amber this is brilliant! Thanks for being you!
For about a month now, I'd scheduled to go to my first TLM Mass (at 7AM, no less) this Sunday with some acquaintances. So this video came just in time -- and really helped to show the similarities and differences with Novus Ordo. Thanks Amber!
How was it? I never been to a TLM but am dying to go. I just struggle with Latin and worry I won't pay attention. But, anyway. What a joy to hear you go to Holy Mass in the original rite.
@@BXMKE Thanks for asking! It was a low Mass, so it ended up being very silent most of the time. Between this Amber's video and my familiarity with the ordinary form (which is Novus Ordo), the Latin was very easy to decipher on the go, even if I wasn't perfectly sure why something was being said or what exactly was being petitioned. As Amber said, the homily is a good mid-point to recognize which prayers you've done and which are still to come. With that and a good missal which you've read beforehand, I think you'll be more than ready. If you want the full experience, I recommend finding out what time the High Mass is. Mine was at 10:30AM, so it's probably something similar at your parish too. God bless, and Peace to you!

8:50 A fun bit of trivia: The reason why the altar Missal is moved to the left side has to do with the geography of Rome. It is, to my knowledge, the only part of Roman liturgy that is based upon this. It is better understood at a High Mass. For the reading of the Gospel, the deacon is to take the book out of the sanctuary then face to the left side of the church to chant the Gospel. Note also that at Low Mass or at a Missa Cantata, the Missal is placed with the pages facing a bit towards the center of the altar (on the Epistle side, the book is placed straight on). A church should be oriented so that everyone prays facing east, meaning that the Gospel side of the church is liturgical north. The deacon exists the sanctuary and faces towards the north because that is where the Germanic pagans came from relative to the city of Rome, and this action represents going out and preaching to them.
I'm not religious, but have always found everything catholic amazingly beautiful! If it weren't for the major disagreements i have with the catholic doctrines, i would most likely become a monk, giving myself to prayer and God. I still do this in a sense, and even use a rosary from time to time. Such beautiful traditions and history that i feel all humanity can partake in regardless of your spiritual background. Keep on, keeping on my catholic brothers and sisters! ❤
Forgive me for asking this but.... If you are not religious how can you therefore disagree with our Catholic Doctrine? After all you previously started your not religious.
@@wordforever117 I use to be a former christian (protestant). I wrestled with the doctrine of the prot. faith which led down to the very existince of God. But I did take a look into catholic faith and the issues further compounded with things like mortal sin and venial sin, and if you miss mass without a very good exuse you fall into mortal sin? So what jesus did on the cross can still be undone just by a simple missed mass? Or even mary, how she is considered to be assumed to heaven, just bc she was the mother of Christ?....These far reaching assumptions of something we couldn't know for sure really makes it look like man likes to play God.....
@@jimlittle7111 I don't understand why not being religious means i can't still disagree with the catholic faith? I looked at the many things, and it seemed more like a group of men got lost in their traditions and decided to be the sole arbiter of what God was...

THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL directed: "The treasures of the Bible are to be opened up more lavishly so that a richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God's word." (Vatican II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, No. 51) The scriptural readings provided in the 1570 Tridentine Mass included only 1 percent of the Old Testament and 17 percent of the New Testament, and had only a one year cycle of readings-with most of the Gospel readings taken from the Gospel of Matthew. In the Mass restored by the 2nd Vatican Council, the scripture readings include 13 percent of the Old Testament and 71 percent of the New Testament.
All rites going back to the Apostles have 1-year-cycle. Thanks for one more proof that Bugnini's Mass is an artificial creation not an ecclesiastical rite
@@felesamabilis Silly. The Apostles didn't have a lectionary, much less a cycle of readings. And there were no "books" as we know them for centuries. There were scrolls of what we call the Old Testament in synagogues not available to the Apostles after they were kicked out of the synagogues. And the canon of the New Testament wasn't decided upon until the 300s. There wasn't even a "missal" for the prayers. For centuries the prayers at "Mass" were prayed spontaneously by the celebrant. When Christianity was made the offical religion of the Roman Empire things began to get more organized and uniform. Beyond that, why are you opposed to Catholics having more scripture available to them? Do you disdain the scriptures? Do you find them too challenging? The scriptures are important to us. St. Jerome said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” St. John Chrysostom said: “To become adult Christians you must learn familiarity with the Scriptures.” And Pope John Paul II said: “By giving the Bible to men and women you are giving Christ himself.”
@Catholicity-uw2yb tell me you haven't understand my comments, without telling me that 🤣 Obviously Bugnini found the warning about unworthy Communion too challenging 🤣
Just a word about the prayer before the Mass begins. When we enter and kneel to pray we are supposed to be offering the Mass itself for the four intentions of Holy Mother Church which are the intention to adore God, to thank Him, to implore His mercy for our sins, and to supplicate Him for His Grace. It is absolutely necessary to offer up these four ends of the Holy Mass. The old missals had this beginning prayer but in some, this prayer has been removed. If that prayer isn't present I strongly urge you to copy it from an older missal and paste it into your own.
Nice explanation! Remember my fellow Catholics, take a look into the, "Novus Ordo" Mass form. It is really interesting and this style of Mass dates back 2024 years! Jesus faced His apostles!! So now, the Priest, Jesus' appointed apostle, faces us!! Just as Jesus did! It is such a beautiful meaning behind it. Highly recommend looking into it. God bless you all :)
“Man should tremble, the world should quake, all Heaven should be deeply moved when the Son of God appears on the altar in the hands of the priest.” -St. Francis of Assisi
Why does the mass continue after the priest says the mass is ended? After The priest says ite missa est.. He goes to the gospel side and reads John chapter 1.. And then the mass is over. So why not say ite missa est After reading the gospel of John????
God must be laughing at all of the disagreements regarding who worships the correct way. There is room for all of us. No mater what language what form. Just worship!
I've been Catholic all of my life , i grew up in the NO mass , it's literally all that I know. I know the NO mass like the palm of my hand. I attended my first Tridentine mass at the beginning of this year, it was interesting. After 7 months of attending the Mass , i can safely say its just not for me. I'm not a fan of the silence and the constant kneeling. Especially since the parish i was attending had terrible kneelers with no cushion and you were kneeling 90% of the time. About halfway through i just had to stop kneeling because my knees were giving out because it felt like i was kneeling on straight up concrete. The silence also doesn't help, ironically many of my friends who go to the tridentine mass prefer it because of the silence because they have ADHD and the silence helps keep them focused on the Mass and stay in prayer. With the silence , i was actually lost. I mean i just didn't know what to do, just kneel their and watch but couldn't hear anything. I got bored quite quickly. I tried to stay focused and concentrated on the Eucharist, which i of course loved to receive while kneeling and on the tongue but it just felt like every time i left the tridentine mass i was just confused After 7 months of attending the Tridentine Mass exclusively, i quit going and went back to my local parish that is exclusively only offers the NO mass. After i quit attending the Tridentine Mass, i was invited to attend my first Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy and wow, what a Liturgy! After i attended my first divine liturgy, i was amazed and have started to discern if i should join the Byzantine Catholic Church. I love my Roman Catholic upbringing, but Eastern Catholicism is just so different and has definitely lifted my spirit ! Glory to Jesus Christ 🙏☦️❤️
Oh I know!!! 😅 My first divine liturgy was on Easter and they prayed something called the Matens and that was 1 hour and then the divine liturgy was another hour and 15. At the end of all of that, my feet were killing me. I've been going to liturgy for almost a year now and I'm used to the standing. Most eastern churches stand for the majority of their liturgies @@RickW-HGWT
It's just practicality, really. Back in the day vestments used to be heavier, so the servers would lift the vestment to free the priest's arms to lift the host and chalice high enough for the congregation to see.
@@markjohnson1520It also represents Luke 8:40 - 48, when the woman suffering from bleeding touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and His power went out from Him. This is what is written in my German FSSP Extraordinary Form handbook.
My parish will do this for some weeks leading up to Easter for those who are enrolled in RCIA, but aside from this, it is no longer practised as far as I know.
Greek Orthodox Here, I Find It Interesting you Say In The Eucharist, Christ Was Sacrificed Once. We Have The Eucharist Too. I Was Saved Protestant, Became Orthodox, but we've had Protestants constantly accusing us of re-sacrificing Christ every week, and we do not believe in re-sacrificing Him every week!! I have no regrets having Been Protestant between the years 2000-2022, but seriously!! They lied about How you guys View The Eucharist, and they lied about how we In The Orthodox View The Eucharist!!
I pray for harmony in myself before local NO because I let the female servers, hand sanitizer and masks bother me too much. The disharmony is in me and my fellows and all the harmony and peace is through God so I turn it over to Him. I wish TLM was not so far away, it costs me too much to hop on the train to go to the parish I love. PS congrats on your engagement! Hope you have lots of Catholic Hippy Babies
They are still using masks in your parish? That is mental. Female servers is not a problem, but I understand things like this can be annoying. Lay Eucharistic ministers annoy me but these things are not a massive deal in the grand scheme.
@@KaiserHedden but why do you insist on pronouncing another language like it’s American English? I understand that people who are new to a language will pronounce words like in their native language but it’s not my impression that she is new to Latin.
God says in scripture that he detests our sacrifices and incense for sins because is desecrates Jesus sacrifice which was once for all. You are clean all you need to do is confess your sins to God directly.
This is a misapplication of Scripture. That Scripture predates Christ and so cannot be used in this manner. It is a rebuke against insincere worship and unrepentance.
TLM is not about only understanding every word (and latin is not so difficult, especially if you are from norman-language countries). It has a great symbolic background. Also latin is sacred language of Church, so we should keep it.
Actually, the whole language thing misses the point since most of the Mass is celebrated sotto voce. I understand Latin, but it hardly matters if you can't hear it. Pax et bonum
Most Catholics know the mass by heart anyway...so it really doesn't matter what language it is in. Novus Ordo is slightly better in the native language only because there is a lot more verbal participation from the congregation and you need to know when and what to say! But there are great missals with both Latin and English. It is really not an issue Regardless, every Catholic should know the Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Pater Noster and Angus Dei in Latin. Plus the Marian Antiphons in Latin. Because these prayer are rightly sung and Latin is a much better language to sing in!
You can use a missal with the translations, the priest does most of the speaking so you don't have to " know" Latin. At a TLM your at the foot of the cross, embrace the silence and reverence there that is so absent at the NO.

What is your main issue with Catholic doctrine?
@@gemsstr7933 Because Your opinion wouldn't hold water. You aren't religious and most definitely aren't Catholic. If you was at least protestant I'd give your criticism a grain of salt

THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL directed: "The treasures of the Bible are to be
opened up more lavishly so that a richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God's word." (Vatican II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, No.
St. Jerome said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”
St. John Chrysostom said: “To become adult Christians you must learn familiarity with the Scriptures.”
And Pope John Paul II said: “By giving the Bible to men and women you are giving Christ himself.”
Thanks!
Good video
Idon't ned an explanation. I need the mass so I can attend today.
As someone interested in Catholicism, and not a member of the church. Are the none members still escorted out? Genuine question
Is the TLM different then the Tridentine mass? Is the sermon in Latin or is it in the native tongue of whatever area the mass is in?
My 2 year old likes going to the Latin Mass. interestingly, there are more families and kids at that one than the NO.
Wonderful video. Are you a hot coffee drinker now?! :)
It's tea, I promise 😳
Inomene Patris et Fili et spiritus Sancti Amen. Introibo ad altare dei
Did you have an alarm going off during this video? I can hearing come kind of beeping the whole time
Gen X here, we did what we could to bring the TLM back, now it's up to Gen Z to bring us home
“Man should tremble, the world should quake, all Heaven should be deeply moved when the Son of God appears on the altar in the hands of the priest.”
-St. Francis of Assisi
Is the Gospel the only reading read? Do other readings or different psalms are read at different occasions?
Why does the mass continue after the priest says the mass is ended? After The priest says ite missa est.. He goes to the gospel side and reads John chapter 1.. And then the mass is over. So why not say ite missa est After reading the gospel of John????
Very very very holy latin mass
Laus Deo
Deo Gratias
Sanctus is not part of Canon, it starts with TE ÍGITUR. In other nice video
I NEED A MISSAL, PLEASE HELP ME TO HAVE IT.
Fr Lasance Missal is the best!
I tried to stay focused and concentrated on the Eucharist, which i of course loved to receive while kneeling and on the tongue but it just felt like every time i left the tridentine mass i was just confused
After 7 months of attending the Tridentine Mass exclusively, i quit going and went back to my local parish that is exclusively only offers the NO mass.
Peter has the Keys and the ability to bind and loose... Don't leave Rome unless they are still in communion with Rome.
@@romgtr the Byzantine Catholic church is in communion with Rome
There is a lot of standing in the Byzantine Catholic Rite.
I've always wondered why the altar servers lift or hold the back of the priest's vestments during the elevation -- what does that signify?
It's just practicality, really. Back in the day vestments used to be heavier, so the servers would lift the vestment to free the priest's arms to lift the host and chalice high enough for the congregation to see.
thanks!@@TheReligiousHippie
@@TheReligiousHippieAlso stops their vestments catching fire while incensing everything 😉
@@markjohnson1520It also represents Luke 8:40 - 48, when the woman suffering from bleeding touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and His power went out from Him. This is what is written in my German FSSP Extraordinary Form handbook.
Are catechumens dismissed after the liturgy of the word in 2023?

I thought TLM was banned by the Pope. Where can I find churches in my state that still practice TLM.
I prefer Mass to be celebrated in Esperanto the world language.
I'm a Catholic and I heard that Latin mass was very hard to understand
Awesome, at my church,Christ the King we do not respond at all, as well as at ST John Cantius, the choir does as well as alter boys.
This is not hate, but why do (almost) every American Catholic insist on pronouncing Latin words in an American accent?
Because, for some reason, American accents are really common among Americans.
@@KaiserHedden but why do you insist on pronouncing another language like it’s American English? I understand that people who are new to a language will pronounce words like in their native language but it’s not my impression that she is new to Latin.
Because they dont know the correct pronounce
QUESTION ????/ WHAT IN THE WORLD ISZ A ECONOMY ROSARY ????? !!!! I AM 76 YRS OLD AND NEVER HEARD OF ONE !!!! TOM CROWLEY
Dominus vobiscum....
It is a rebuke against insincere worship and unrepentance.
,Talking too fast to understand the situation.
Most catholics don't know latin which makes these masses very weird and not very informative?
That wasn't a problem until after V2
It is really not an issue
Regardless, every Catholic should know the Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Pater Noster and Angus Dei in Latin.
Laus tibi Christe means ‘praise’ to you O Christ. Not ‘glory’. Just sayin… ;-)
