      I see that the T-Fal Odorless basket is not practical. I think that when you take it out of the oil tank, and hook it, the oil flows out of the tank because of the hook which dips into the oil. If you understand what I mean...

    I just scored a used T-Fal EZ Clean (even made a video about it) and I found this video very helpful. In watching the belabored clean up of the Oder-Less model once it had overflowed, coupled with the fact that it does not have built in oil filtration and a removable oil reservoir, I now see that I made the right decision (for me) on which unit to buy.

    Very interesting and informative video, and humorous at times! We bought the odorless model prior to watching this video, and I think I may have preferred the Easy clean model had I seen this first. Be that as it may, this is my first frier and I'll make do. The instructions on the odorless one tells you to remove the oil after every use (after cooling to room temp.), and store it in the fridge...will it not condensate, thus contaminating the oil with water? For ease of storage, the other model seems better. Any suggestions on how to store the oil?

    • @aliciaaltair
      @aliciaaltair 3 роки тому

      @@UncleScottsKitchen Thought I'd chime in since the OP didn't... I have the same setup in my current house, no vent hood, plus the oven is on a wall with no window, the room next to it has a vaulted ceiling, and the house is one floor mostly open floorplan. So basically all steam and smells permeate the house, collecting and lingering in the room with the vaulted ceiling. I don't think I've ever lived in a house with a proper vent hood but the setup in this one is particularly dumb! Joys of military life. I've gotten pretty creative with a makeshift outdoor cooking area next to the grill for things like blackened fish, but while cracking ice off your coleman so you can make some fish in January is fun and all...adding a fryer? Hmm...

    When you have a particularly dirty batch of oil with lots of crumbs etc in it do you still put the oil in the oil reservoir in the easy clean or do you pour it out? Also when you did your fries twice how long was the cooking time on the first fry? Thanks for your reviews. I’m looking for a new fryer. Are the recipes you used for donuts etc. in the book that came with the fryer?

    • @UncleScottsKitchen
      @UncleScottsKitchen  4 роки тому

      Hi Sherry. It depends on what the crumbs are... usually when we fry chicken, the chicken batter has buttermilk and flour in it, and for some reason anything with the buttermilk really seems to produce more crumbs and bits. So usually for that, we will fry 5 - 8 baskets of chicken and then the oil is cloudy and has bits and a chicken flavor, so we throw it out. If I'm throwing it out, I usually don't strain it into the hopper but just take a kitchen funnel and put it back into the oil container it came in. But if the crumbs are from something like fries or just breadcrumbs without buttermilk, we'll use that usually five times or so (and of course it also depends on how long you go between uses... it will eventually go bad over time anyway). On the fries, it is usually 5 - 7 minutes or so for the first fry (just keep an eye on them). The donut recipe my wife found on the internet.

    Hi Scott, thanks for the in-depth review. With the Great State Fair of Texas canceled this year, I'll have to make Fried Cheesecake at home so I'm looking for a good fryer. The EZ-Clean looks great but I may have problems storing it in our pantry due to shelf height. What is the exact height of the unboxed unit? I've seen numbers from 14" to 14.8" on the web. Also, is the height lower if I store the lid separately? .....or do I have to remove the heating element to lower the storage height?
    Regarding the Odor Less version, I'm ok with the added cost but, as mentioned in a previous comment, the T-fal "where-to-buy" website says that unit has been discontinued: " Sorry, we cannot find any online retailers"

    Hi. Great review!! Your wife is so patient with you, helping prepare chicken n doughnut recipes. The food looked wonderful n tasty. Ya'll ate good for sure! You're right, whether or not you have a good vent system will determine which one to buy. How do you clean the cooking element? I like the EZ clean better for size n cleaning n storing of oil. The other one has more parts to remember to clean n buying filters ( if you can remember when to buy them ). Keep up the great reviews n recipes. Peace to you and yours

    • @UncleScottsKitchen
      @UncleScottsKitchen  4 роки тому

      Thank you very much! The heating element is pretty easy to clean. I just wash the coils with dish soap/sponge. Main thing is to not immerse it in water... keep the electronics from getting wet.

  • @memyselfandi3242
    @memyselfandi3242 2 роки тому

    How are both of these for holding their temperatures after adding the foods to cook? Plus, my understanding of cooking the fries is that you boil the fries until almost comes apart...but just before that point, then deep fry them. Some add some vinegar and salt to the boiling water first! VInegar in the water helps keep the structure together and the salt in the water gives a bit of internal flavour after the deep frying is all done! Otherwise, you bite into the fry, and the internal part just tastes like plain old potato... no real flavour.
    After reading the bad reviews on the easy clean unit with oil storage, I was going to get something else, but I've seen some videos that say its one of the better ones.. so... may get it!
    Good review... thanks.... not into paying for extra filters!

    You show the oil storage in the fryers to the right, easy clean, but how long do you store the oil and do you drain it while it is hot?

    • @UncleScottsKitchen
      @UncleScottsKitchen  4 роки тому

      I didn't realize it at the time, but I think the drain has a feature that prevents it from draining if the oil is too hot. I would generally let mine cool down for a couple of hours and then drain it. As for storage, it just depends on how much it's been used. If I've done five or more batches of food, it won't last long. If I've done french fries or something with no batter and not too much odor, it will keep for a few weeks. But there is no magic rule... just until it gets colored and/or smells a bit. I usually just drain it out after a big frying day.

    • @nuuwnhuus
      @nuuwnhuus 3 роки тому

      The ultimate test to know if your oil is still good or not. Dip a little bit of white bread in the oil, I you don't want to eat the bread you shouldn't fry in the oil.
      Liquid oils generally keep shorter, but they're healthier while they're good. With liquid you can normally do 7 to 8 batches. If the oil changes colour or starts to let of steam (don't know if steam is the right word, nonnative speaker lol) while it warms up it's definitely time for a change.

    I'd probably only fry a couple time a month. Can you reuse the oil after that time, or will it be bad? Also, how to dispose of used oil? thx

    • @UncleScottsKitchen
      @UncleScottsKitchen  3 роки тому +1

      There is no exact answer... you may have to go with the sniff test. If I fry something like chicken tenders that have buttermilk in the batter, I find that there is a lot of gunk in the oil and it takes on a chicken flavor, so I might only use that oil one time for the big fry day. For things like french fries (things that don't have much batter or strong flavors), I can get several uses out of the oil. But it depends on how long between uses, etc. For the Odorless model, what I do is just save the oil jug, let the oil cool back down, pour it through a strainer funnel back into the jug, then I label the date and what I cooked and store it in the fridge. For disposal, I do about the same thing... put it back in the jug and then in the trash, but I don't just pour it down the drain.

      That's what I would do. In fact, not sure of the recipe but frying at 415 is getting up to the risky point where the oil is going to smoke and there is a higher chance of a grease fire. Not sure I would fry at 415 to begin with.

      I used to have that on the website somewhere but off the top of my head (you might need to adjust proportions to taste) here is the basic recipe: 2 parts mayonnaise to one part ketchup, onion powder to taste, tablespoon of pickle juice to taste (sweet or dill). Then it branches off into endless variations... you could use chili sauce instead of ketchup, relish instead of pickle juice, I like a shot of cayenne pepper and a shake of garlic powder in mine, some use barbecue sauce instead ketchup, on and on and on!

    Hello. uncle scott.
    I live in Korea.
    I've been wondering for months how the Tefal FR8000 (or 1.8L capacity model) and the odorless fryer are right for me.
    FR702D51 (1.8L)
    This product is easy to reuse oil, but it produces oil vapor.
    I think this is an obvious disadvantage.
    It should be used just under the kitchen hood and the hood should be cleaned periodically.
    However, the odorless fryer does not emit oil vapor. But I have to clean up the oil left over from frying. Instead, there's 74% less oil vapor, so there's no stress that you need to clean your kitchen hood frequently.
    I live in an apartment, and the kitchen hood is not that big. Of course, the oil vapor from the fryer can be covered.
    I need advice from my uncle Scott.
    Which product should I buy?
    If I buy an odorless fryer, I will also purchase an oil storage can with a strainer.
    Take care.
    Have a nice day.

      Hello to everyone in Korea! I hope you are all doing well and thank you for your comments! From what you said, I think the Odorless would be good because the oil vapor is less and it would be good in an apartment. Especially if you have an oil storage container and filter, then the Odorless should work very well. I hope that helps!

      @@UncleScottsKitchen Thanks for the advice. Uncle Scott.
      In this comparison video, the amount of oil in the odorless fryer is 3.5 liters, which is the same as the FR8000, but the frying basket seems to be smaller.
      My family is four, including me, and I will mainly use it, and sometimes I will have a beer with my friends (one to two)
      so the small fry basket will be a problem? or i don't need to worry?

    the odorless seems plasticky and gimicky. also more expensive.. I think the filter and storage feature in the ez clean and lower price makes it the nod. also these seem to not hold a lot of oil

    glad not to hear the guitar sound. 2 lodge pans would have done exactly the same job, no need for expensive fryers :P but I understand the gadget hype and excitement, I do it too. the odourless/filtered model (newer addition) has a deeper almost conical construction in the bottom under the heating element as to drag down impurities and other fried bits and pieces and not keep frying them on a flat bottom. I know these as Lidl, not sure if any Lidls are available in the US, marketed their fryer as innovative some 6-7 years ago as the conical feature was the way to go, they called it 'cold fryer zone'. Not really into things that have so many parts and cavities. They should either be easy to put in the dishwasher or 2 lodge pans filtre their oild wash in warm water dry and goodbye hahaha. Good almost scientific comparison. I didn't watch because I was interested in buying one only because your input is good and suits my values.

    • @UncleScottsKitchen

      Great comments and thank you. I'd bet that next year T-Fal comes out with an odorless model with oil filtration so that you get the best of both worlds. I made some fries for the Super Bowl and I noticed that the gunk and particles did seem to settle down in that deep area in the hopper. I let the oil sit for a while, then poured off the good stuff off the top back into a container. I really didn't need to filter it. Thanks again for watching!

      Hi Bruce! For the fries, there is no specific time for the second fry... I usually start checking them once every minute or so starting at about five minutes. Some people like them softer and some like them darker with almost a little crunch, so just take them out when they look like what you like.

    Well, I still like my dutch oven for deep frying. It has more than one use and in the end, it's less clutter in the Kitchen. I got a Straub coming for my birthday- and the first thing I am going to do with it is Fry fish, and in the one I currently have I will do the chips. and I will put it all on the local Communist News Paper and it will be real fish and chips just like they do it in England!

      Frying on the stove top is a pain in the ass. Hard to keep a consistent temperature, hard to save the oil, easier to make a mess. I had a lousy $20 electric fryer until my wife filled it with water washing it but even that was a huge improvement.
