RIP Taylor. Incomprehensible loss for his family, bandmates, friends and relatives. For the fans, he will certainly be missed, but those close to him are going to miss a true legend.
She's such a pro. Extensive knowledge, really great ideas, and a stone cold poker face when she said Gooch Mic. I mean what a legend
I cannot wait to use the patented "Gooch Mic" technique. I'm positive it will rocket me to the stardom lol
Sylvia's the kind of woman I'd love my future daughter to look up to.
Passionate, creative, intelligent, crazy.... What's not to like.
Sylvia: Taylor, how many Mics do you want?
Taylor: Yes please!
Bassplayer: How many do i get?
Silvia: Sorry, please do DI.
That DI was actually really good tho :)
Bassplayer = The Chris Chaney
@@JOHNSMITH-ek3gt That’s triggers for you.
Synthia is the only mix engineer that doesn't talk like she hates her job.
I love geeking out with Sylvia Massy!
She can seriously make anything with a Magnet sound better than most engineers with any Mic period!
I can always appreciate someone who is truly passionate about their work.
What a pleasure to witness Sylvia's passion and expertise ... just WOW. Keep it UP, Sylvia!
A live active microphone history history lesson. Wow! This is a one of a kind video! Thank you Sylvia. I miss my days from way back when working in the studio and setting up microphones. Soon, this year I'll be back at it when I set up a drum room in my studio.
❤
Man, she sure knows her microphones.
She shure does (pun intended)
Im Pretty Sure
anyone else noticed that she allowed him to use her special talkback mic to record vocals ?
when i saw it i was thinking about what she sayd in the show us your junk video from earthquaker "no one is allowed to touch it , dont even look at it ! " i know its a spinal tap quote but still it made me smile when i saw that mic haha
Same thought here...
How many phasing issues would you like for this session?
Sylvia: Yes please
You don't have to use all mics at the same time. The best part of drum recording in a room like this is to swap or bring in/out different room mics for different sections of the song. And then there were two sets to be comapred... So no, no phase issues really. She certainly knows what she's doing :)
@@nikolaygeorgiev41 my guy. I think it was just a joke
When you say “phase issues” do you mean things losing perceived volume (phasing out) as they are spread too thin in stereo? Still have yet to discover these phase issues I’m always hearing people mention.
@@NRG2 when you record two or more mics on one source, the distance of the mics to the source will determine how long the sound takes to reach the mic. So if two mics pick up a sound at different times the soundwaves can cancel each other out when summed together, which is what “phasing” means
@@NRG2 and commonly you'll hear a loss in frequencies which in turn causes a loss in volume/body. Another way to understand phasing is to think about when a drummer hits a snare, when his stick hits the head, the initial transient/waveform from a top mic will curve downward first because the sound pressure is moving away from the mic initially, and then the opposite for a bottom mic as the pressure/waves move toward the mic initially. If you don't flip the phase/polarity of either mic, the snare will sound thin, missing body especially in the low end/low mids. As soon as you flip one or the other, that snare should instantly sound like it's supposed to, and of course everything will sound even better if all mics are in phase together and closely aligned.
This is a fantastic video. Mad props to Antelope Audio for this and for that killer interface.
Wow, Sylvia Massy knows her microphones - that is so cool, great session, amazing kit, thanks for sharing :-)
Came for the Massy (never disappoints), got the Chaney, mic madness and a great track - great production job on this vid!
Two of my ultimate heroes. Sylvia Massy and Taylor Hawkins. How can you not walk away without producing something totally amazing!
Love it, that was awesome!
Fantastic stuff!
Feel sorry for the guy who has to wrap all those xlrs
The person wrapping all of the XLR's is doing a job most would only dream of.
64 channels... bde, thats nothing! Try to work as a stage ingeneer live in a big Music Festival. Thats what you have to switch betwen artist in less than 20 mins, hehehe.
@@ScottBeattyProSound agreed. I would love to absorb some wisdom from Sylvia Massy
Looking great Silvia, crazy mic setup.
WOW, she looks stunning!!! I love me some Sylvia Massy
That smile on her face, like a kid playing with his favorite toy enjoying it like the first time.
Awesome video. Learned all kinds of stuff 🤩🎶
Brutal song!!! And Sylvia is the best!!!
Sylvia Massy is the most legendary person in this video. This crazy microphone setup sounds beautiful. Listening through a set of Yamaha NS-10M's right now. Love it
Over compressed as fuck UA-cam video!
As a producer, this is who I aspire to be. What an absolute legend. FANTASTIC JOB everyone!
21:25 👍👏
Love Sylvia. Get her book too!! It’s freakin awesome
Wow Sylvia Massy is the best!! Period!!
I'm a microphone lover as well. YOU are Amazing Sylvia, Thank you for your work. Save the world save the mic's.

Hey Sylvia ..
Real fucking good job where you're doing! The sound is fantastic!
You really understand your craft! 🙏
Just wow! 👍
Your collection of microphones is also impressive, as is your passion for microphones! 😉
You can tell that it's your babies! 😋
Sylvia's smile lights up an entire room.
Those toms sound really great.
17:54 , Taylor takes off his shirt - Sylvia blushes and smiles nervously.
This is DOPE! 👊🏻
Sylvia is amazing @ what she does hands down 1 of the Best #LivingLegend
Amazing work all the way and a nice piece of hardware indeed :-)
Awesome vid
i honestly came here to see the mic collection. i have a home studio, a set of firepods and a digi002 are all i need.
Fabulous as you would expect
One of my dreams as a musician has been to work with Sylvia Massy. She’s so so so fucking good at what she does. Anytime I see a vid with her in it, I take notes
As someone who has worked with her, do it. It was worth every penny.
Whatta, Live-feelin' ....Just like it should be! Great sessiojn
There is nothing more attractive than someone that is a true expert and knows everything about their craft. I swoon.
"Oh so many great mics here. I just love microphones." Lovely lady :)
Holy shit that part come on exactly when I was reading this comment, what the hell!!
Mind blown!
What a cool piece of music.
Taylors got a killer voice.
Great session! Flirt much 😂
Me 1 week ago: "How to record drums with budget mics"
UA-cam: Galaxy 64, Sylvia Massy and Her Microphone Collection
I watched it without blinking anyway
Great studio, great console, great engineer, great band. Antelope hardly did a thing.
Sylvia Massy is an Artist.
God, her personal studio was exactly what I would have imagined someone of her stature would have. So cool!
Rad song!
Melhor baterista, saudades eternas Taylor, um verdadeiro artista completo
All hail the queen of recording, sylvia massy.
Sylvia is a boss - like seriously, what a G
Wow!
My God those drums are freaking phenomenal 🖤🤘 (obviously Hawkins being behind the kit helps too lmao)
I want to be in that room at this session SO BAD.
I wanna know when this “one int the same” song is officially out on Spotify and other streaming services?!
I was interested to learn more about the synergy core processing. With ProTools Carbon out, hybrid processing using internal (processing inside an audio interface) and host processing is becoming a significant advantage. Does the Galaxy use AFX2DAW? How well does it integrate? Amazing mic collection though...It will be interesting to have only Antelope Modelling mics instead of having 60+ different mics for flavour.
“Ok, I’ve got all 40 mics set up, it only took me 6 hours to do because I was handling all of these lovely historic, one of a kind microphones; so Taylor, show me the drum part you want to record today....”
Taylor: SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH!
Periscope mic is made in Finland at Scope Labs
That was fuckin awesome! Love those mics. I have a mic fetish also. That Antelope Galaxy is impressive. The Neve is pretty sweet also. What a fun gig. What a cool song. Taylor is the shit.
64?
Not enough. My guitar has 65 strings.
Hey? Great video!!! What sample rate were you using?
I can't tell if its a delay or if there's just so many mics that all the drums are flamming
I noticed it seemed too stereo. I am thinking she had the regular mics panned to one side and the museum mic panned to the other side. Really not sure though.
Yea what is going on lololll
@@jessetyrrell5599 Exactly what i thought, sounds really extreme and im not sure why they made that choice
that's a demo video not the final mix
C'mon, man. Y'all can't tell that's the camera mic? Deep sighs
Song's pretty cool!
Taylor Hawkins meets David Bowie meets Mike Patton meets Queen meets FF
You had me at "hello".
Sylvia is cool!
Did I miss what the vocal mic is? Was that just a gold 58?
I’ve wanted to pick up this tune for a year now and can’t seem to find it anywhere, does Any one know where to find this jam?
Isn't that copper microphone the finnish-made Periscope by Scopelabs? Or is it a different mic? I was unable to find any information about similar mic made by Tommasco Colliva.
Never mind they developed it together with Tommasco.
Massy is literally the GOAT
Sylvia you legend
sounds cool! what's the name of the song?
I love you Sylvia.
If taylor hawkins wears a shirt, all time and space will warp and he will cease to exist. .
Hi Sylvia
Do you experience phase issues with all those microphones? How do you deal with that?
Yes, phase is a thing that must be accounted for. UA-cam search is an amazing function.
@@ScottBeattyProSound Are you suggesting that a UA-cam search is more valuable than an answer directly from Sylvia? That’s laughable
@@MG-jy5qx Well...for starters. This isn't her own personal channel. This is a company's channel. Chances of a reply are slim to none. Probably none. Better off looking up your questions on UA-cam. Plenty of videos explaining phase and polarity.
@@RickK1988 right. I think that the OP realizes they could easily perform an Internet search and find answers. They were clearly hoping that they would get an answer directly from Sylvia. I think it was worth a try, but everyone’s calling out the obvious.
Does the Galaxy 64 have to get online to verify itself before every session? I sent my Orion32+ back, because of that. How would I ever do a remote session?
Yeah that would be a deal breaker.
@david barrow i have the 32+ and it doesnt do that. you ca use it offline ofcourse
I was shocked when she admitted she likes microphones.
Can you say, OVERKILL!
Sylvia the beast! check out her Ebay store
l'image stéréo de la drum est super large non ???
How the farrkkk do you mix 64 microphones ?
🖤
Isn't the Periscope mic Finnish??
Great.....
Good Lord Woman! I love it all!
For those who want to hear the music: 21:24
Complete freaks. Epic
She is so cool.
Where can i hear the whole song??
