K Plug Type Speaker Mic Review

- A review of some of the K1 type speaker mics that I currently use. At the end of the video there are video samples of the transmit and receive audio for the speaker mics reviewed. All samples were performed at the same volume setting using the same radio for both the transmit and receive samples. The recording mic remained in the exact same position for all tests.

Not many people are reviewing mics. It's nice to see one!
"Giant Sequoia Nation"? Are you in Central California?
Great video, really appreciate the details and break down of the speaker mics. I just got the commountain myself and been impressed.
You mentioned a modification of some kind to the clips for molle use and was wondering what is?
I have been waiting for this review since you announced your plans to do it… and I was not disappointed! Thanks for your efforts putting all this together, and now off to Amazon to order up a commountain! 👍
I own 3 of those Commountain speaker mics. 2 of them don't even have the IP54 label on them. However they look identical to the one that does. I just "field tested" one on a 200 mile segment hike on the Continental Divide National Scenic trail over 2 weeks and it held up great. Although I wasn't very worried because I've also been using these during the winter months on backcountry ski hut trips in Colorado and really any hike I do locally in Indian Peaks wilderness (very rugged and lots of weather conditions). I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a speaker microphone for use in the backcountry.
The ComMountain Speaker mic Reminds me a ton of the motorola Speaker mics I agree with you minus the Pin connector setup 20:10 @KS6DAY
The Kenwood HT's we have as work use the K-plug speakermic arrangement. I pulled the cover off the HT I was issues to use with one of my Retivis speakermics. I turned it in for "replacement: after we had a plumbing leak fill the charger with the radio charging sit with 3/4" of water in it after a pipe burst. I've seen the radio identity on the digital network, so that radio was passed off to office workers and still worked the last time In noticed, although that was a year or 2 back, as my current radio is located behind me and I rarely look back to see the radio ID.
Just got a few Commountain speaker mics, thanks! @KS6DAY, can you please share a link to the audio tube earpiece you recommend?
Commountain on its way..!! Thank you.. needed something for outdoors I'm giving it a try.. new to the hobby I'm gonna slap it on my kg-q10..
Excellent video. Love the explanations for each mic. Personally I have the commountain mic for my 878 and it’s fantastic.
great side by side review..cant see the extra jing for the kenwood mic.. FYI,, my fang decided to not transmit audio,, i sprayed a little contact cleaner in the connector holes, popped the connector in and out a few times and all better! hey you got nothing to lose right! thanks!

I have a Kenwood mic that has an integrated antenna cable. You can relocate the antenna to your shoulder. Audio quality is nothing to write home about. BTW, when we transitioned to jumpsuits, we had the tailors add a mic loop on the center chest area...no more craning your head and eyes toward your shoulder to speak into the mic. I also used the audio tube 100% when I was on patrol...good for my bad ears and goos because the turds could not hear dispatch tell me that turd had warrants:)
Many thanks. You cleared up a number of my questions. When you get a chance, you might look into the various desktop mikes. My Alinco DX-50, for instance, uses the same mike as many Kenwoods.
I been looking st the anytone radio I have the KG-UV9GX and The KG-1000G Plus and The KG-935G Plus all great radios And no they are not cheap Chinese radios By any means
Appreciate the links for the kenwood and the Anytone and the Commountain Scott 10:07 @KS6DAY
Another mic to add to the list, it's expensive but boy oh boy do I like it. Klein Valor CSM. Overmolded TPU rubberized grip, good and chunky, solid satisfying PTT switches. Even the front speaker is a PTT itself, sounds weird but works really nicely. Klein Electronics, same company as the guys that make your favorite pliers. EDIT: It's not really any more expensive than the Kenwood KMC-45D there.
Very helpful video!!! Now I just need a new GMRS radio.
Hi,
Another trick to get a good sound is tried by me by successively changing several microphones from older mobile phones out of use.
Did I miss the paracord trick? what time stamp is it?
indeed the Kenwood has great sound quality transmitting. receiving sound quality was good, just need to turn up volume more than other mics do.
but I would not spend 80 dollars for it. sound does not mean that much to me.
Anytone has the next best sound quality. Commountain is next and for the price and quality, Commountain is the better choice.
Great video, Thanks!
What dash mount do you recommend for the Commountain speaker mic with belt clip?
Thank you
the one that came with my Tidradio works great
Yeah the Kenwood Speaker is super low
Godd info, thanks for posting.
Good video and tips. You could probably replace the 2.5mm socket for a 3.5mm one.
My Bose headphones have a 2.5mm socket and come with a 2.5 to 3.5mm cable. I also thought this was very strange.🤷♂️
I have some 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapters arriving today. I will do a short follow up on this later today.
I bought a couple of speaker microphones and they don’t work on Quansheng or baofeng?
I like my Commountain shoulder mics, but when I use a K1 to Multi-Pin adapter and transmit there is a carrier, but NO modulation.
There are hundreds of Cheap brand speaker mics that are identical to the Baofengs... I prefer my Raytalk RSM-350 and Raytalk RSM-400W Ip67 Speaker Mics 4:08 @KS6DAY
Do these computers run on a regular computer with an adapter chip? cheers
Nice video!
Is it possible to turn off the speaker of baofeng ptt?
Deviation levels were all different so couldn't make an accurate evaluation....should have backed off a little on the loudest mics to equalize levels; you can't compare quality with widely differing levels. Also there was an acoustical resonance in the room (or suitcase) that muddied up all the transmit tests....should have moved the record mic closer to speaker or at least get it out of a partial Helmholtz resonator. A lot of editing should've been done to this; lot of rambling.
I thought that the Kenwood had the best microphone but the worst speaker, based on that last bit.
👍
