This was Gen 3! Bite, as any Dark move, is still Special just like Flamethrower and all other Fire Moves.

I would say in most cases it would likely lead to a easier game assuming the exp cap's are being pulled from the opponents highest exp cap. The most noticable point that would become easier is the pokemon league as the champion's ace will have slow exp scaling which will give all pokemon you use that arent slow exp a higher level cap that in a regular nuzlocke.

You can get a Light Screen TM in the Lilycove Department Store, and if you teach your Starmie recover (which it should get as a Staryu) then you're pretty much good. I think mine knew Surf and Psychic as well (I did a deathless nuzlocke of emerald that I have yet to upload) but pretty much any move combo is good. Just don't die to confusion/crits or run out of power points. Ideally you should stall the kingdra until it uses Struggle

      Exactly.

@@aprinnyonbreak1290 Speed isn't a factor here. Trapinch is immune to electric damage, the easiest type of attack to bait in the entire game. And has roughly the highest base attack stat you could expect to obtain for a significant chunk of most games it's in. Trapinch can take one hit better than its opponent in most cases. As a rule, it's on par defensively with first form starters, and massively outclasses them offensively. In fact, its attack stat is superior to more than 70% of fully evolved starters. So yeah, an early game monster that doesn't really struggle in the midgame, and then dominates the late game as a Flygon. He's pretty god damn good, so long as you don't let him turn into a Vibrava until the last possible moment.

To be fair to the bite vs flamethrower commenter, maybe they forgot that the physical/special split hadn't happened yet since it was a gen 3 run. If it was post split bite would probably be the better option because of how frail alakazam is.

Wouldn't actually be fire blast the best play instead of slash? It is a strong special move that is boosted by the sun and has a burn chance... Slash and Earthquake would never kill. Slash wouldn't even kill with a crit there so...

Fire Blast is a 2-3 hit KO without crit, on 85% accuracy, with something like a 90% chance of it being 3. EQ should be a 3 hit KO without crit, but with 100% accuracy.

@@DavidS-1278 No, actually. There's a fairly high chance in that scenario of a 3 hit KO with earthquake, even with 0 crits. A significantly higher chance than Fire Blast to 3 hit KO, even with Bulk Up in play. And, even with the Bulk Up, enemy groudon isn't even guaranteed a 2 hit KO, so there's actually a fairly decent chance that you get a 4th attack off before going down.
So to review, 3 attacks guaranteed with a chance at a 4th. Enemy uses a turn to buff, and then takes either 2 or 3 attacks to KO, with a speed disadvantage. That's how we arrive at the 3-4 figure. The first attack is normal, the rest suffer from the enemy's defense up. Earth quake has a 50-60% chance of straight up winning that fight depending on damage rolls alone. And, of course, failing to 2 hit KO is a loss for enemy groudon.
