Georgia Watermelon Crop Fares Well Despite Weather Challenges

  • It won't be long before Georgia watermelons will be rolling out of the fields and into a grocery store near you, but this year has been very challenging for producers. The Monitor's Mark Wildman spoke to one South Georgia grower who says that, despite an early growing season and too much rainfall, the crop is growing well.

    I've planted some watermelon this year.....They seem to grow fast. However, they are getting yellow leaves next to the ground (where I water them). Is this bad, and how can I stop it?

      Not really sure what that means. We would recommend you call your county Extension Service office. They should be able to help you out, or at least point you to the right people. If you're in Georgia, you can find your local Extension office here: extension.uga.edu/about/county/

      Yes, I've gotten Neam Oil to kill the Spider Mites....I'm going to follow up in a few days with Soap Dish and water....I understand that if you get "1" spider mite, they can still survive without a mate....Scary stuff....they can and will return next year....
