    Better Pickleball
    The shoes that Tony and I wear and the ones in the video are Tyrol shoes. There are other shoes for pickleball but to my knowledge, Tyrol is the only one designed specifically for pickleball. The shoe is on the wider side, so I wouldn't recommend it if you have a narrow foot. tyrolpickleball.com/?rfsn=5851206.d03ea9& (Btw, if you use that link to make a purchase I receive a small commission)Our recommendation is based on deep experience with and knowledge of the product. We recommend them because they are genuinely helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions we may receive. Shoes marketed specifically to pickleball are a marketing gimmick to be able to charge more for a “specialty” shoe. Tennis court shoes are exactly the same and almost always are cheaper, just find one that fits your foot right

    • @BetterPickleball
      @BetterPickleball  Рік тому +1

      That’s actually only partially correct. True pickleball shoes are designed for the increased lateral motion in pickleball. But sadly some manufacturers have simply labeled their tennis court shoes pickleball. Tyrol shoes are designed specifically for pickleball. They don’t make any other shoes. But you’re right Rachel above all you need a shoe that fits.

    I call a bit of BS on this. I was prepared to invest in a shoe designed specifically for pickle ball. My local sports store had a try out program for a well known brand, specially designed pickle ball shoe. I've paid alot for this brand of shoe before and thought it was worth it, so I was prepared for a good result. I wore this shoe for a 2 hour play and never experienced that kind of pain in any other sports shoe, particularly in my big toe joints. The bottoms were so grippy it caused me to stick to the court and almost trip when I needed to quickly adjust my position. This shoe was stiff and overly supportive, making my feet feel trapped, hot and uncomfortable, despite having been measured for the right size by the store. Obviously, I didn't buy that shoe and it was worth the $10 to try it out for a day. If I had purchased them without trying, I would've had to return them. With shoe technology advances, I don't accept that I would need to "break in" a shoe for a month before they're comfortable! I have now purchased the Saucony Cohesion running shoe and it's absolutely perfect for the lateral movements, provides ankle support and has the perfect grip (not slippery but not overly grippy). All this hype about a specialized pickle ball shoe when all you need is common sense to know which shoe works well on your own feet and gives you the support and mobility you need.

      I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with a pickleball shoe. As I mentioned in the video what's most important is fit. However a running shoe is NOT built for lateral motion. While it might be more comfortable for you in the present I urge you to get a court shoe before you fall.

      Basketball shoes are designed for lateral movement. Indoors they can be a good choice. When it comes to outdoor use you need to make sure that the shoe is designed for the asphalt surface otherwise they won't last very long.

    Park districts are retro-fitting basketball courts for pickleball, especially with fall and winter weather on the horizon forcing more folks indoors. Is the outdoor pickleball shoe you show okay for indoor basketball courts or can basketball shoes be worn on outdoor pickleball courts?

    • @BetterPickleball
      @BetterPickleball  2 роки тому +1

      Good questions. Outdoor shoes are ok for inside play but might be slipperier than a shoe made specifically for indoors. As to basketball shoes, it depends on the sole. If they are made for indoor wear, pickleball courts will tear up the sole quickly.

      After the shoes, the next biggest problem with indoor play on wood floors is dirt & dust. Always try to mop the floor before you play if the facility doesn't do so. Also, I keep wet wipes in my bag and wipe off the bottom of my indoor shoes every time I come off the court. It's amazing how filthy the bottoms get, and when that happens, I start sliding. Several of the places I play indoors are now also holding daytime summer camps for kids, and the kids track lots of dirt and dust onto the floor before we set up the pickleball nets.

There are a lot of shoes marketed as pickleball shoes but to my knowledge Tyrol is the only one designed just for pickleball (that's the only shoe they make). That said this shoe is has a roomy toe box to protect the toes from all the quick stops and starts in PB. If you have a narrow foot this is not the best choice for you. If you think it's the shoe for you, you can use the code BP10 to save 10%.

      "specific pickleball shoe"? This is largely a marketing trick. Pro pickleball players wear tennis shoes, as they exceed requirements of pickleball shoes by a wide margin because the amount of stability and lateral support required for tennis is way more than in pickleball. Google what your favorite pickleball player wears! Ben Johns for example wears Babolat Mach 3 tennis shoes. Tennis shoes are available in wide. The only pickleball specific thing about indoor pickleball shoes is sole thread with enhanced traction on wooden polished floors, but even this is not a requirement if you get good quality tennis shoes, their sole traction is still good.

    You talked a lot about what not to wear, but very little info about Pickleball shoes. I think research shows that the more cushioning, the harder you strike and that creates much more pressure that transfers up the leg to knee and hip. Plus, all that cushioning creates less stability and more opportunity to roll your ankle. I wear a xero shoe because the thin sole and wide toe box is closest to playing barefoot which gives me way more inherent stability.

    • @BetterPickleball
      @BetterPickleball  2 роки тому

      Hey Bonnie, there certainly is some research to show that less padding is better. and there are some minimal running shoes (but not the majority). The court shoe us designed to support lateral movement and to prevent ankle roll. All that said, if the xero shoe works best for you that's great but that's not one that I would recommend for the majority of players.

      I love my Xero 360s! Designed with lateral support specifically for sports and activities with hard lateral movement. Being able to feel the ground beneath me is a huge advantage for me, compared to other 2.5-3.0 players that I typically play with. Light weight also keeps this 64 year old body lighter on my feet compared to other shoes I’ve tried.
