👏👏 very good review. Thank you for a complete and honest roots story on Oliver.
I have watched reactors videos to this song for the last 5 days just to see if people really GOT THE MEANING behind his lyrics and how many would take the time to find out his story. A few actually did but the majority didn’t sadly. This is why I thank you for trying to keep his story true to facts. I’ve been amazed to watch this song go world wide and see how it unites people all over the world. Truly Gods hand is all over this.
Now, I must say. I almost didn’t click on your review. Mainly because of your attire on your thumb nail. Just a little to provocative for my taste but I’m glad I changed my mind and gave you a shot.
Great work. Your better than our so called investigative journalist these days.
    God Bless ❤

This was actually a very good video, thank you, I have been following Oliver (Chris) Anthony since his 3rd day of release, you have done the most extensive job of making a good impression of his knowledge base on his actual life story, I also have listened to this song over 100 times plus all his other work, I love “ Rich Men North of Richmond”. “I just want to get sober” and “Virginia” he has put his soul into all 3 of these, also the rest of his catalog is amazing, this young man is a superstar waiting to happen 😉

Interesting, I've watched reactions for the past several days and the majority got exactly what he was saying. Maybe that has something to do with us watching people from different cultural backgrounds 🤷

I played this song for my husband last night, after the kids were in bed. We laid in bed and I watched my husband break down and cry. It crushed me. I’ve seen him cry 2 times in his 53 years, when his dad died and when his mom died.
Oliver’s soul touched ours for the few minutes when we listen to him sing this song. We realized we are not alone when we read the comments on that video. This is the anthem for the Average working American. Let those Rich Men North of Richmond take notice because this is a movement. We The People are not backing down and we KNOW what “they” are doing.

Even if he was a record industry plant ( which we know he's not) the song still stands. Plus the record industry would never let a song this good to come out. There is a rawness and genuine authenticity in him that no artist that went through the industry would retain.

The first mistake people make is calling his song country music. He is tapped into his roots and his descendants. What he is playing in the style he's playing is Appalachian folk music. I live in Apalachian mountains My people come from the Apalachian mountains and I'm also a musician. Which a lot of us are up here. And he has a good voice for it. And no he's not rich it's just an old boy that decided to get his shit together and found God and had something to say. And most of America can resonate with it.

Kinda curious if you know where country music came from? Who started country music, where’d they come from? It was bluegrass type music, the people came from the Southern states. From the Appalachian mountains. It was bluegrass. The music industry that changed the music from bluegrass to country. I am not dismissing your opinion. I am stating what I hear. I hear bluegrass not folk music. Many put John Denver as a folk singer. I didn’t hear “folk music” from him either. As far as this youngman not having an accent I have to laugh. I’m laughing cause my dad’s side of my family are all from West Virginia Kentucky And Tennessee with the majority started in West Virginia. And I had asked my dad “ why doesn’t grandma sound like she’s from Kentucky” apparently she went to finishing school. Not even sure how they afforded that cause they were poor people. Anyhow this youngman probably lost his accent from being around people not from southern states. Again not dismissing your opinion. Just having a conversation.

My Family's history is based in Appalachia. One thing I consistently see is Folks don't understand the Scots Irish Appalachian people. Their lives are expressed in their music. Not alot of literature comes from there and most of the documentaries end up centered around music. Because there is an abundance of it.
Mr. Anthony may not live in the mountains, but he's definitely a product of his Family's roots.

Once in a great while a song comes around that overwhelms you with so many feelings, (only one other song for me that comes to mind) with a performance that is delivered with passion and authenticity. When you can listen to this over and over again and it still hits you like a sledgehammer and touches millons of people like Mr. Anthony did and will, I can only hope and wish him the very best, and a safe passageway wherever he may end up in life. Thank you Mr Anthony and Thank you young lady for this video, nicely done.

Thanks for a great review. I’ve been watching this amazing story unfold all week. I’m one of MANY people who love this song because of its power to unite people. I’m not a Christian. I’m not a democrat or a republican. But these rich men north of Richmond are destroying ALL of our lives. I’ve been watching responses to Oliver Antony’s song. It brings me comfort in dark times. This isn’t a problem with the libs or republicans it a problem of class, a problem of corruption. a problem of moral decay. I’ll be voting for Dr Cornel West in this coming election cycle. I would never vote for any of these rich men north of Richmond again.

So many people across American have been ducking there heads from all the craziness over the past 2 decades. Everyday was another day of wondering if God is with us. Why are we going though this is it worth it. We felt alone and then Anthony Oliver put all his heart out there and let God fill his soul. He shared his soul with all of us and we all quickly remembered god is with us. We are all in this together. The darker it get the easier it will be to see the light. Surely we just heard a ray of light.

Ive subscribed and looking forward to going through your other videos. I think Oliver’s explosion will only do good things for wider appreciation of roots/Appalachian/bluegrass/whatever music, hopefully you get a lot of new subscribers out of it. After listening to his guitar over and over again during reactions, I dropped by the Sweetwater site (best online music retailer). Not surprisingly they’re backordered on every model of Gretsch resonator 😂 - looks like Oliver’s inspiring a lot of people..

Amazing song, amazing lyrics with amazing commentary, what a story, This past week, I listened to a couple dozen of these types of music reviews from all races internationally. All reactions were very positive and emotional. Government Control-Despair-Hopelessness-Frustation-Drugs-Suicide, says it all. This song really hits home with the pain and suffering of both young and old. Also somewhat related to Country Bluegrass music genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region of the United States. Like:-->> "Worried Man Blues"

Is it that "his UA-cam" lacks direction, or maybe that's he is a normal person & not just another person thirsting for clicks, trying to work the algorithm? Most content & most people are so fake today that we don't know how to react to authenticity.
Ninety acres is more than plenty when it is in the woods. He's got deer stands. He might be able to sell some of it as timber & then doze out a portion for cattle. Make a few ponds with a backhoe. God bless him. Most people have these grandiose dreams of fame & money and this guy just wanted to be content & self-sufficient. If he can put out one album & build the life he wants on a farm and then walk away from the media circus, good on him.

Thank you so so much for being here and supporting the Roots Music History channel! This is why I started the channel. It's so apparent that God's plan touches these various musicians and songwriters to bring the world the music it needs to hear. In every story, there's such "serendipity" and "happenstance" and the songs seem to come to the songwriters in "minutes" so effortlessly the only way to explain it is Divine Music Intervention. ❤

I actually shop at the same grocery store, and have seen Christopher (aka oliver) in town. Life here in rural Virginia is very different from city life. Chris's music is not slanted to any political party - not Dem, not GOP, not Liberal vs Conservatives - to think that it is would be to misinterpret his work. It is about us - humanity - and how any government should SERVE its citizens, and allow them to live by the light that guides their individual feet. The enemy is not any particular political party - the enemy is the politicians, the "Rich Men North of Richmond" and we should all come together and fix this country NOW.

I too almost didn't click on the video, but not for the same reason.
I Love Love Love the song!
And I half expected u to ruin it by saying something negative, and I wasn't ready to go there at all.
Im Happy I gave you a chance and listened to what you had to say. 🙏
I agree with you 💯 % about him being an artist. He denies he is a good singer or guitar player.
And he believes its just about the song that we like it.
Not true we all feel what he feels.
But its the whole package that made this go viral.
I've binge watched as many reaction vids I've seen.
Bottom line I hadn't heard anything negative being said.
So thank you for putting this video out for any naysayers out there.
Its a damn shame as he says in the song... that some people want to criticize something so beautiful.
Sorry for swearing but, I thought it appropriate here.
    Kudos for doing this.❤🎉

Oliver has too much authenticity, humility, and passion in his music to just be a plant. He is one of us and he has felt the pain you can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. As shallow and superficial as most of our stars are I would never believe anyone could pull off this kind of authenticity as a plant.

I love this video. Love Oliver Anthony and love you for doing this video. Now, comes the hard part for me. I only like to have 10 subs on YT. Currently, have like 20. Question is, do I subscribe to this channel just because I really like this one video? Oh, what the heck, I'll subscribe and go through my list and see who I can replace later. Thanks for doing this video. 🙂

OH my goodness! First of all...great podcast. It's great to see Oliver blowing up like this...we needed this message! At the end of your video where you say to check out some of your other content...I was like OH MY GOSH THAT LOOKS LIKE STEVE COOK! Back in the 90's I played bass for a band called KING KONGA...but I was not a "bass player"....I was a guitar player who could "play bass." The band just needed someone at the time and Steve was committed to an internship I think. So, I knew the guys and we did many shows and made a CD and I was happy to fill that role for a while. When Konga was ready to take the next step...they needed an actual BASS PLAYER and Steve was the guy. He is an incredible musician, a true pro, and they made some great music.

Just subscribed to your channel. My mom was from Boone, North Carolina. Although born in Seattle and raised in southern California, i grew up loving the mountain music of the Appalachians. Intwresting fact, some Scottish covenanters were sold into slavery and worked side by side with black slaves. The plwintive mournful melodies often found in the blues came straight from the Scottish highlands.

I went down a rabbit hole years ago about the different variations of slavery in the history of the world and it was hauntingly fascinating. Your mother sounds like an amazing woman to have raised you with the music of the Appalachians! I can tell you have a strong appreciation for the music and i love that. If you have any suggestions for future Roots Rockumentaries please let me know! Thank you for being here and supporting the channel 🎵❤

Now in order for a song and an unknown singer to blow up like this there is only one way it's even possible. First the song must connect with the people thru a period of economic struggle, and extreme fear of uncertainty for the people's stability in the future. Let's be historically true here, in the past 2 thousand years there have only been a handful of songs that had the connection to unite so many. Next the singer HAS to be genuine. Country blue collar workers and the people that this song has touched can smell city corruption on a person a mile away. We don't trust people or organizations at all. Family and close friends that have known each other for years MIGHT have earned a man's trust but in no way is it easy. This means if he was a plant his fame wouldnt have made it past his introduction video. This phenomenon is only possible organically no amount of money thrown at a song or singer could get the results that Oliver and this song has had
