    Very straightforward easy to follow clear thanks it was wonderful. I must agree with many of the other users in that it would have been nice to demonstrate the cutting of the rounded edge.

    Amber- The strips would get tangled and I had to either keep the balls close and try my best to not let them tangle or I would braid for a little and then untangle the strands then braid then untangle. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    For braiding, try hooking the end knot over the hook of a plant hanger and put big rubber bands around your yarn balls. One might find that using a butterfly (or figure eight) wrap will work better for this.

    Thank you for this tutorial! Your rug is so cute. May I please ask - if I were to sew this by hand, what kind of needle and thread would I use? Thank you.

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  10 місяців тому

      You would want a pretty strong needle since you will be going through a lot of fabric and then I would just use a universal thread.

    Great tutorial! I have a bunch of T-shirts already braided, but gave up because I didn't want to hand-sew the whole thing! Quick question: when I try to sew it on my machine, the bobbin thread gets all tangled up in the machine underneath. Is that because of my tension? Or do I need a thicker/thinner thread?

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  10 років тому +1

      are you holding the threads when you start sewing? and make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly. Try those things first. Hope it helps and you can figure it out. Thanks for watching!

      Hafsa Rajshekhar look up videos on topics relating to old ways of the Amish toothbrush rugs. Use their methods or I’m sure you can be led to other ways. Good luck.

      It is a lot more time consuming though.

    I also got confused, particularly with the part at the beginning when you go around the first time and you said to curve upward. The video sort of fast forwarded and I wish I could have seen exactly what you did. I'm just going to wing it and try to make sense of it. Thanks for the video!

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  9 років тому +1

      Megan Daniels Sorry it was confusing. It was hard to film so that it made sense. So if I understand correctly you are confused about the cutting out part? I just curved up so that my strip would continue as one long continuous strip. If I would have just continued to cut straight I would have cut the strip off and then had to of sewn the strips from that shirt back together. So this way I don't have as many strips that need to be sewn together. Does that make sense? I know it can be pretty confusing.

    when I started to sew it is now not just curling up on the end but it is very wavy. How do I keep this from doing this or how do I get it to lay flat?

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  9 років тому +1

      Make sure you aren't pulling too tight. When you are going around the curve you really need to make sure your not pulling tight or it will curl. To prevent the waving make sure your not pulling tight even on the straight parts.

    • @arciafrench993
      @arciafrench993 6 років тому

      Tesla Travelstead I leave any prints on shirts, it looks pretty cool when woven ,you can’t see very much when it’s all together. Printed sheets used for rugs look great when braided together.

    Is there a hand stitch I could use instead of using my machine?

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  5 років тому

      Mandi Lu yes you could do any sort of hand stitching you like to do. You want to connect the rows together so I suggest going back and forth, like a zig zag stitch, so that the rows don’t come apart.

    I started my rug and noticed the edges curled..I realised it was tights I have since loosen it..I think I will just try to glue it to a backing

    • @mysewbliss
      @mysewbliss  4 роки тому

      Yes, if you pull too tight on the curves it will curl the edges. I think gluing it would be a great option, as long as it’s not too much glue or it could get scratchy.

      telma ferreira myself, I use a rotary cutter, scissors can cramp my fingers for cutting that many shirts. There are many videos to watch on how to attach strands without sewing. Heavy duty upholstery thread & a tapestry needle to hand sew the rounds together. I use this for denim, wool, T-shirt fabrics.
