I really appreciate your content. My parents both consider themselves Taoist and used to play a big roll in the temple. They invited me to join them a few times but I never learned any lessons (I just went there to eat). But I always wanted to know more about what my parents were getting out of Taoism. Today, the universe pushed me into your direction and it is uncanny how perfectly timed it was. Thanks for all your hard work and you should know that you make a difference.

I got interested from beginning to end. I think I must take seriously the practice of tai chi chuan. I am a hermit for more than 20 yrs now and already 64 yrs old, and natural remedies for a balanced existence are only what I can afford. However, I have long been a believer of Chinese principle of health and balance and once a Zen practicioner. Only today that I came across your video that I suddenly took it seriously. Thank you George and Master Gu. May the universe give you back for being the instruments to remind me of a philosophy that I have left behind for a long time.

I am a school teacher and it pains me when I have to tell my students that China is our enemy. Because historically, both of our nations were always exchanging culture and science. But due to colonial manipulations and the short sightedness of our politicians, we are now 'enemies'. Their young minds fail to understand that this is a purely political statement, neither popular nor personal. Politics has done more harm to our respective cultures than the war we fought in 1962 and the subsequent skirmishes. Both China and India have so much to offer to each other and the world. Please continue sharing your knowledge with us, sifu. For it is people like you and not our bombs, planes, guns and missiles that can save the world.

If it was up to the people, there would be no war, because people who want war are usually not the ones fighting in the front lines or the ones living in the warzones. I hope that democracy will be replaced with a system that is better, that is fair and lets people be free, feel free and stimulates wellbeing, not just for us in the west, but also in other parts of the world where people for example still die because of a lack of water or die from a fever. I hope some day people will find balance with eachother, that we can accept differences and share happiness instead of fight and take what we feel is ours.

I have been a lifelong Taoist since finding the Tao Te Ching in my early twenties, I am now fifty three and I live on one meal a day. with regular fasts for a few days to a week or more. True enlightenment comes from Both feast and fast. The sage only takes what is for him. And nothing is of interest to me unless it is shared. When you give you gain.

Since I started watching Taoist videos like this one, I find yin/yang balances in all things. I look for it more and therefore, come across it. Even my gardens! I love my controlled, rows of yang gardening but all around, I allow wildflowers of yin energy to grow, nurtured by nature. There is much balance. I even had to write the story of my yin/yang garden…the beauty of them being bound, yet separate was overwhelming my senses and had to come out onto paper.❤

I am happy I ran across this channel. Yes, these tips are all helpful but, the key here is always vibrational alignment. Diet, exercise, etc. are great self-help tools for the body/mind which are important and not to be dismissed. God/Tao is a frequency, a tone. You do not find it through the right foods or movements, you align to IT. Peace and Love!!!

George, Thank-you for these videos and to Master Gu for his participation.
This one was interesting because we just switched to Daylight Savings Time here in the States, which is not an issue in China. So now when do I get up? By the clock or the sun? As we move into the yang time of year when the daylight hours will soon exceed the nighttime hours, again, when do we we get up, by the clock or the sun?
My gut feeling is that for those of us who are retired or otherwise not restricted to a tight schedule, following the rhythms of nature is a better way, especially since clocks are a human attempt to enforce an order on life with only a general nod in the direction of nature.
Generally I like being up a little before when Master Gu recommends, around 4:30, so I can have time for meditation and morning prayer before sun up; I like to practice Taiji beginning in the twilight and ending just after dawn. The early morning is for me a wonderful peaceful time of day and I find the morning twilight beautiful.

If time is an abstract concept and daylight savings does not apply to China, then I would say use the sun. Or set your alarm according to the time change.

It's not just daylight savings time that is off, so is your standard time zone. True solar time is different at every point east-west, and varies over about a 40 minute range during the year. You can find the difference by averaging your sunrise and sunset times to find the clock times of true noon or midnight.

On the path with 3of 4. Hoping to become a morning person soon and live somewhere not so oppressive to my natural states of being so that I may do so. Been implementing a better food regimen progressively, learning Tai-Qi w/Qi-Gong and balancing the Dao of interactions. I don't have a lot but it still rips me up when I really that I am truly blessed and have more than many I see out on the streets daily. Sometimes I can just offer a bow of my head and a look of acknowledgement, some food or some change in my wallet but it does really come back in some shape or form. That is the equilibrium, the Dao of giving and receiving interpersonally. I used to be baffled when a stranger would approach me (usually a senior) and ask me directions or about a bus route and end up opening up about their life in the span of 5/10 mins. It was always a treasured moment to me; a gift within itself. Thankful to my teacher and for the opportunity to learn from life each day.

Recently I was asked to do some work on a friends flat, over 3 weekends, i worked hard, it in total cost me a lot of money in transport, having to put my dog in kennels because she was not welcome, a few tools that need replacing due to use, while it was great to get to know a French family, to help someone get closer to moving into her flat.
For the first time, i just feel taken advantage of and used for my skills.
Yes i gained by expirence, but I have another friendship were if I don't make contact then they drift away, which is what will happen again.
So while I believe in Give & Receive, will always try to help people, but I am frustrated by the one way feeling I now have and distrust recent events have left me with.....
The path of life I am finding is a lonely, tough path I feel and out of balance.

It sounds like you are dissatisfied due to the lack of appreciation or reciprocity from those you help or share goodwill with. I’ve been there many times myself. In the future, if you CHOOSE to help someone in the future, then do what YOU choose but have no expectations in return. Otherwise you will always be in a state of angst and unhappiness because you have NO CONTROL over the actions (or inaction) of others, but YOU DO HAVE CONTROL over how you react to the action (or inaction) of others. So, it is your choice to be upset, sad, happy, or indifferent about the things that you (we) have no control over. So how do you CHOOSE be with the rest of your life? To the best of my ability, I choose happiness. ☝️🥴☯️

@@EnlightenedRogue24 Yes you are right, I choose to help and enjoyed helping, I am questioning myself, as I have by helping not achieved things that would have benefitted my situation.
Life events have created an avalanche of thoughts, where I am now questioning friends honesty, life, etc. for example; if it's me keeping another friendship a live, is it one way, also many other questions.
I am not sad or frustrated, everyone is different, we are all unique, my eyes are more a tune to the ways of people, than before.
I will carry on helping people, just not at the cost of my objectives if that is of greater importance.
Ultimately we all want to be happy, content with life, it's finding the right balance.

Enjoy your happy dao been doing yang style for 25 years and on 19July 2019 I was doing step back to ride tiger in the combination 48form and my right leg with full weight gave out my hip gave out so with 3 pins in hip and not able to put weight on right leg for 5 more weeks. I am doing upper body Tai Chi with a walker. Came across you site and you and Master GAO inspired me to go with the flow. So in a week I get a bone density test. So if that comes out positive so good but if negative so good. Love your references to Alan Watts, I have followed Alan Watts since 1979. I guess I should mention I am 86 so that might have a bearing on my leg giving out. I did not loss balance it just gave out.

I read in a tai chi manual that you shouldn´t put all weight on one leg as you lose balance. Anyway, take care and get well.

When I was very generous some people start to take advantage on me unfairly.
Then I start to be less generous and people get offended.
We should give and receive with balance!
Being generous is right, not too much, not very generous nor a little bit, simply strictly generous!

I love these segments and I especially love this one. It in many ways gives me A lot of affirmation about the spiritual principles I am trying to become more and more mindful of and practice in my own life. I have become or maybe always was a taoist and didn't know it!! I love the practical approach your taking to teach me and others to reach a place of harmony and contentment or balance in life. I am a firm believer in following your feet and living in the moment but for me I have had to make some rather drastic changes in my life like resrrict the use of tv and news and put boundaries up with people and places and things that cause me to lose my emotional and mental harmony. For me it is difficult to stay in a place of acceptance and understanding because I often want to take charge and manipulate things, people to be the way I want or feel they should be. Often to my own detriment. Its difficult to be proactive and productive and remain in balance. One of the tools I use is to try and look at the end result of a thing before I do it and if I can see that the end result is probably just to be self serving and egocentric I won't do it. Another rule is to try and do good and if I can't I try and do no harm. I believe Ghandi said that but it seems to alter my behavior. I would love for you to offer up more advice and insight of ways to stay centered and in harmony while living in a society that thrives on the post modern excesses of self and what seems to be often a sarcastic and synical approach to spiritual habits. Thanks for letting me correspond with you both and I am very much looking forward to your future
    instalments
    . Sincerely, Dwight.

I live in Missouri where a lot of people are brainwashed into overeating and gluttony. It’s sad because I’m heavily inspired by Taoism and meditation. I feel out of place. When I retire I would like to live in the mountains or a beautiful place. It’s sad to see so many wealthy overweight unhealthy people here.

I live in Missouri too, but why worry about them, thats the same root tendency as control. I dont worry myself too much with the actions of others so long as they arent harming innocent people.

I agree with James Lee. No need to worry for them since they are adults who can take care of themselves if they really want to.
But as for obese kids, it's worrisome.

@herr haller Things can still be sad to watch even though you're claiming to be a spiritual person, yeah? Or do we expect the world to turn into some mush and us not trying to tell good from bad, right from wrong? I sure hope I don't turn into an idiot of that kind, it world be horrible, I'd be horrible. Yeah, not according to the universe or whatever, but from a human standpoint you'd probably realize something could be improved.
edit: nevermind. I've realized I'm not a fan of arguing on the internet, there's just misunderstandings on top of misunderstandings and there's always so much more to say, there's no context for anything...

Why would you move from there when you can teach them to live healthy. You know, give and take. You have the power to transform your comunity into sonething a little bit less gluttony and out of balance, you can be the change. Why would you change your enviroment for another, when you can transform yours and help others in the process?

To have recurrent desire is not necessarily wanton. We are trained into this by our biology. To quench our thirst doesn't mean that's the end of it. We'll soon be thirsty again. We know that, so I think it is fear or anxiety that we may not be able to satisfy thirst or hunger in future that drives us to over consume, over accumulate.
