    Absolutely love your philosophy about sharing with your neighbor who has been so helpful. Imagine what he would have paid for all that lumber. Instead, he helps you, you help him, he learns a skill, you learn from a new set of eyes, etc. Good on ya!

    The swadust is good for making pressed bricks to burn also the ground cover. Side thought is also all the compost toilets out there can use the swadust.
    But Man glitter is the best option.
    Glad you had a good time!!

    Have Alissa use all that sawdust in the garden for biomass, it’ll decompose fairly fast for some really rich soil and it’ll give you some more room at the bandsaw.

    I used thick slabs for picnic table seats,, stair treads,, canoe paddles, window boxes,, table legs birdhouses & feeders,, money grows on trees!!Some people hang a 5 gallon bucket catch the sawdust dump it in barrows or bins for easy moving,, It's great for bedding,, egg boxes, dog houses.. slick off the bark & square the edges & you have beautiful log siding.. usually get a week outta a blade with clean logs,, & 100 cords of pulp with a sharp chainsaw.. Aloha PPPSSSSS,, AFTER watching without cooking & phone calls,,, your hot tub lumber will!!!,,,,, GUESSING,,,, build 10 Adirondack chairs,, At 150 bucks each is more$$$$$ than all your lumber on the trailer a days work..

    What do you do with the woodmizer blades once they become blunt? Do get them sharpened, to be reused once again, or do you have to trash them?

  • @WoodUCreate
    @WoodUCreate 6 років тому +3

    I'm a little sceptical of your math in trying to compute the "worth" of what you milled. Does that account for S4S lumber as you would find in a big box? Do you account for the Kiln drying cost? Did you also subtract the costs of the logs that you purchased too?
    The whole idea of computing the cost is not that important to me since the returns are not that great, but this channel is about the journey in building this house out for less and doing it yourself. I love the woodmizer stuff, since it's all about you getting material you'll eventually use in your home.

    A medium quality cordless lithium leaf blower might save you a lot of time sweeping sawdust of and you could blow it to a central location for pick up, like a large box, some might even have a vacuum feature. Bag it, press it into logs and burn it.

    Did you ever calculate how many board feet you can cut between blade changes? Another few other things to consider would be how many blades do you need to keep on hand, downtime to change the blade and cost to sharpen the blades. While a circular saw blade might have a large "kerf", you might save more in costs and downtime.

    Hello my name is Bill I watch your Channel all the time I see things that you do that you could do differently and if you are really definitely considering the off-grid living there are better ways out there to reduce your own electricity then solar and to where the electric company will actually pay you instead of you paying them that is when the wind is in such abundance that it is more reliable than solar power and with wind power turbine the electric company will put a special meter on your line that will monitor how much power your turbine will put back into their grid and pay you instead of you paying them

    Great day of work! You keep forgetting to count the value of the firewood. You guys made a cord (or more) of it over the last 2 days easy. Should count towards your value earned.
    The woodburning water heater/floor heater will burn all your cuttings and you'll have earned yet more.
    Once you are done with drying in the house you should consider building a "company sized" hot tub. You could put a heater on each end. ;z)

    You have been getting some beautiful lumber and timbers. Once you complete the house, you might want to consider setting the sawmill up on a slab and anchor it down. Use it to build a timber frame shop. Maybe even build the shop around it. A load of logs here and there and you could work from home the rest of your lives. It certainly wouldn't be a bad way to live.

    That spider looked like a Brown Recluse.. ??? I have a question for you did you guy's look into any other type of homes to build besides what your building ? I have been looking at some of the metal frame pole barns for a house, did you look at any of these. My wife and I bought 13 acres right on the North/South Carolina line and we want to build a home ourselves. I have looked at everything from a Modular home which I can't afford so that is out, we also have looked at log home kit's cant afford that either. So it's either a stick build pay as we go home or a metal frame pole barn 1800 square feet that we can buy not including electric or plumbing and be in the dry for 16,000 this is including the price of the concrete pad.

    Are you milling trees that just got cut down or trees that have been dead for a while? How much bigger do you mill a board to account for shrinkage? I have a lot of questions about milling my own wood and it seems like you guys have a pretty good handle on milling. Any advice you can give me or any books you read about milling would be great. Thank you for sharing your journey, you are an inspiration to people to get out and make their dreams come true. :)

      Koality of Life I believe they have been mostly milling fresh cut that were live and healthy. But generally each tree will be different even if they were dead or semi dry. They all tend to have a personality. If you are wondering about stresses, movement etc... Most trees have some sort of internal stresses that show themselves as they dry. Wood flexes continuously as they are in use and aging in the structure as well.

    • @DataStorm1
      @DataStorm1 6 років тому

      trees that are dead for a while don't lose that much moisture, only from their ends a bit. If dimensional is important to you, then you will need to have it a bit thicker and then (kiln) dry it, and only after that plane it to dimension.
