  • If you have a watch that has been sitting around not working for a long time you may wish to change the battery to get it to work again only to find out
1: You can not get the screw back case off
2: You do not know what model of battery it takes
This video you show you how to remove the screwback case without the special tool required to do this job.
Another problem you may have is that after you have changed the battery the watch still does not work! If the watch was not faulty it may be that the mechanical parts are partially seized and may need to be kick started, try this it might save you a trip to the jewellers when the battery works but watch does not.
If it's had it you can have a look on Amazon for a new watch! goo.gl/TynHN2
Or check out the ciancci.com (watch featured in video)

Thank you for posting this. WD-40 really did the trick on getting my Citizen watch to run again after 25 years in storage! Very happy to say the least.

I have found that removing a pin that holds the bracelet links together gives me clear access to the watch back. Yes, there are tools to remove the screw-on backs but I bought a rubber ball used for just this purpose. The friction between the ball and the case back usually loosens the back. Now as far as using WD-40, that's the owner's call. I prefer a very, very light silicone oil in a syringe with a fine needle and follow what you have demonstrated here. VG video but I'm not a fan of WD-40 for watch repair.

Look my watch to a shope where I was told to replace the movement. Little lubrication and started right up! Kudos to you!

OMG! You are a genius! My 25 yr old watch (Elgin) would not work and hadn't worked for about 20 years. I put in a new battery and it still didn't work. One squirt of WD40 - it started working! I was very apprehensive but what did I have to lose...Thank you VERY much!!

Do not spray WD-40 into any watch. It may start breifly for a little while but it will size again and make it inoperable till serviced or the movement replaced. What a stupid video.
