Thank you for your video & Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) have kept these knuckles extremely quiet. I am on my second set of tyres after 30,000 kms on my 2023 Isuzu DMax & I will be taking the IUA steering knuckle safety issue to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication & the Arts as well as the ACCC & as I live in NSW the NSW Fair Trading.
It was a poor design for sure and they should remedy it, however it's only a 'safety' issue if the owner lets the tyres get worn down to the belts etc, which doesn't overnight or on a single drive if within wheel alignment spec. That's unfortunately why it wouldn't be part of the government mandated safety recall program. Don't get me wrong, the owner shouldn't have to put up with it, but set the end of the day they would still be responsible if the tyre blows due to letting it get that worn and not replacing said tyres.
Thanks for sharing this information After watching this I can confirm that my 23/06/24 built BT50 still has the old style knuckles for all those looking at similar build date vehicles.
Great breakdown! I have 'mods' (wheels & AT tyres) that would take me out of the strict Isuzu criteria but my dealership put in an application for me anyway & it was approved by IUA and Im waiting for the part now. Unfortunately, a lot of dealerships are not coming to bat for their customers and are turning away any modded car. I hope the latter customers fix the issue with the Munji kit!
Thank you Jared, a great video. After talking to my favourite Isuzu workshop this morning, they do not have any of the new knuckles in stock. The trigger for replacement by Isuzu is safety, if you complain that it is dangerous when you hit a bump while cornering, it will most likely trigger a claim for replacement.
We can get stock within 5 days. We will be trying to keep a couple in stock at all times for installs. Thats exactly right, its not a safety concern and too many people saying they don't have it is what has made it hard for those that notice it and know what it does. We have had a few cars in that the owner stated they didn't notice it or didn't have bumpsteer. That is until we fixed it for them, then it was like a new car for them.
Several people have speculated as to why no one has simply reversed the taper on the 3rd arm so that the rod end sits above rather than below. Thoughts?
I wonder how the superpro knuckles differ to the new updated ones from isuzu since superpro released theirs a year before isuzu released their update. Also i believe lowering the rack is a better idea for lifted cars. If the knuckle mounting point is too low, imagine how far off itll be once the car gets raised. Combining both the updated knuckle and lowering the rack is probably the best thing to keep the geometry in its sweet spot, raised or not. In theory anyway.
Parents having knuckles replaced next feb, already has 2” lift kit all round, it won’t affect it after the knuckles have been replaced will it? Just W/A after replacement & good to go? Surely the dealer gives them all new tyres as well due to them being illegal on the outside edges.
If your already fitted with the others, I wouldn't worry about swapping them out for these but definitely, if your wanting to spend that kind of money, definitely keep to factory (isuzu) replacements.
Would like to know the difference between new OEM and superpro knuckles. Would also be interested to see if you guys recommend the rack relocation kits if a lift is fitted with the new OEM knuckles.
🧐 hmmm wheel spacers on ur u beaut rig no mod code for that one in the books. great video great info just shows how many good wheel alignment guys there r out there now 😟
These have the prload adjustment ring for the spring at the top as well. I got these made to suit a lighter spring rate, but extra coil long to preload more for softer ride than normal. Therefore, the adjustment iswound right back to accommodate the longer spring. These are a custom built 2.5 remote res Radflo kit from Downsouth Motorsports
At 26,000kms my steering rack has been replaced under warranty as its flogged out, vehicle has no modifications and has never done any offroading, just some unsealed roads and vehicles is meticulouslymaintained. hoping to get new OEM knuckles and maybe new tires all round soon, just waiting to hear back. Was denied the first time round at 25,000kms. But now at 26,000kms the rack has been replaced as stated earlier.
Thank you so much. We are trying to simplify the explanation for all but also glad to see Isuzu have redesigned their products to support the community in their feedback
Would it also affect bump steer towing a caravan with a 250kg towball weight lifting the front end? Then what would happen with rear airbags to level it out unhitched, when the rear goes even higher then factory?
@79series as the front raises, your gonna scrub the outside but levelling it out is gonna help reduce. Then braking will transfer to the front and compress suspension which then scrubs the inside.
Actually no, it will take it to the 16mm and just past which is not enough to cause an issue. We will be testing this for those who wanna see results on my Mux (The Missus) build.
Great info guys. I’ve ordered a new Dmax. Build date is post 17 July 24. How can I check if it’s got the updated knuckles? I’ve asked the dealer and they don’t know about new knuckles, which is a little surprising.
How can they say some cars meet the criteria and others don’t? I’ve complained to Mazda during many services during its life of tyre wear which they have never been able to fix. Hopefully Mazda step up and start replacing them. I’ve got 70k+ on my car so I’m guessing they may not change
Unfortunately, the number of people who say they don't have bumpsteer have made it hard for everyone else who understands the issue and experiences the worst of it. Too many people are led to believe you need to get wheels rotated every 5k and alignment done. This is not the norm for vehicles.
Complain next time that when you hit a dip on a roundabout the car changed lanes. It's dangerous and unroadworthy . Then they will these updated knuckles. You have to pull the safety card. I hope they fix it for you.😊
Do you mean a price for replacement for those that have to pay themselves outside of warranty? We bought these from Isuzu locally and will be installing them for people who fall outside the stated criteria in store. If your interested please email us for quotes. Info@munji.com.au
Its a ramping scale tbh mate. That last 8mm does not achieve anywhere near as much as the first 8mm of movement. We did a lot of that testing years ago. Also I have the mux with the offset rack drop and my dmax with the relocation kit, 8mm difference and the drive feels the same over big whoops in the road.
Steering mount points work on a percentage of distance between the A arm mounting points. So it’s rarely a 1:1 movement if you’re trying to design a geometry system
You might want to rethink publicly claiming that the part "from the other company" which you already said was superpro, needs post engineering. Because that claim is false.
@bradmcgrath358 it falls under the LS codes. We have the right to say this, and we have shown that it states "uprights/knuckles" require engineering. That company is hiding behind an old code, which is questionable and outdated, whereas the current LS codes state this exact part. Where has that company shown anywhere "proof" saying we are incorrect?
Do you mind weighing in more? Look into it more: "Section LS Tyres, Rims, Suspension and Steering" Specifically: "Version 2.1- 1 November 2015 Page 6/LS80" States: "1.2 MODIFICATIONS REQUIRING CERTIFICATION UNDER SECTION LS The following modifications require certification under the LS Codes; • Left to right hand drive steering conversions:; • Steering and suspension modifications • Power steering (non-standard) conversion; • Rack and pinion steering conversion; • Suspension strut or upright substitution; • Rear axle substitution; and Raising the vehicle beyond 50mm but not more than 150mm."
bad explanation of cause of bump steer. bump steer is not "just"' "induced by "taking off fast" or Braking "Harder" - it is when driving over "ANY" undulation in the road surface "causes" the "wheel/steering" geometry to "change"..
@gregjenkins2925 sorry mate we cant make everyone happy but we have directly related this to answer the questions of the many who wonder why some see/feel the bad effects of bumpsteer and others don't seem to. We have simplified this down for everyone to understand. If we went into too much detail, many people would be left behind. The answer you have also applies yes, but, ours is directed to the isuzu/mazda community. I hope this helps you understand where we are coming from.

Just had the new knuckles installed in my 24 Dmax, and they have done a 5° total toe still.....is this now going to cause adverse affects?

Nah you ask half the people on Facebook groups “I don’t have the bump steer problem therefor it doesn’t exist” 😂
Its unfortunately the lack of understanding of what bumpsteer is and how it differs to driving style. But that is what we are trying to help with.
