    Love the detail that after Teller turns off the spikes he rolls the mat back on and throws that hook into trash can.

    its all fun and games until penn starts to rap through the poem

    I only just noticed that Teller was not in fact in danger.. the moment Penn stands up Teller is still holding onto the handles. If it was a real pulley he would have fallen in that split-second and he didn't. Which makes perfect sense, these guys make a big deal out of having perceived danger but not real danger in their act.

      Yeah, they always have safety stuff ready, since they don't do dangerous stuff. If you look close you can see when Penn stands up he kicks the rope. This is probably tied to something holding Teller up in the event that an accident happens and the chair moves or Penn readjusts or some unforeseen accident.

      There was not tension on the rope in the beginning but still impressive on tellers part

      Indeed, Penn points this out in another bit they do ... check out their nail gun trick

      The spikes are probably made of a very bendy rubber as well. Something that wouldn't cause any harm if he were to fall.

    • @verdatum
      @verdatum 3 роки тому +6

      Not quite. Pulleys have angular momentum that needs to be sped up before you fall uninhibited, and further, that pulley is multiplied many times so the weight of even just the rope and the chair is enough to inhibit the fall. Further the length of line needed for Teller to fall has all been bunched up in that knot. In a disaster, the chair would fly up to the top, and teller would've only dropped a small amount. And as mentioned, probably gimmicked nails.

    The amount of rehearsals that these two have done, must be staggering.

    • @jetnut89
      @jetnut89 3 роки тому +16

      Not really. It’s actually really easy to get out of a straight jacket. Teller could get out in 15 seconds. He milks it for a while and then when he really goes for it Penn speeds up his reading and synchs with the finish. It’s Still way more entertaining than hearing Rick Lax read this poem.

      @@jetnut89 I'm sure. But that is not immediate. I don't mean for this one act. I meant in general.

      @maximmillions 3 роки тому +4

      @@mathewhaight honestly, even then you cant always be ready. Penn had a trick he rehearsed countless times and only ever got it once when the cameras were rolling. Practice is indeed important, but that suspense also adds the extra push

    If he starts speeding up it’s to make sure no one knows when he is going to end, that way he can wait a bit or finish sooner to make it perfectly synchronised. That’s what I think at least

    I've seen several versions of their Casey at the bat performance, but this has to be the best. It's too bad Teller no longer doors some of these extreme physically demanding upside down performances. I hope they will license this to a deserving up and coming team because this is one of the best.
