YEH !you got around to this. One of my fave manga and it took me a while to realize its from the same author of Vinland. I wondered why the artstyle was similar. hahah
I went into this like ok so it's from Yukimura-sensei but boi wasn't expecting what I got and really love the main crew and the backstory near the end plus it's short and sweet but wish it was longer though
2/3rds of the show is great. Then it became absolute garbage. I couldn't *care less* about the Terrorists, or Hachimaki's sudden overdrive to further into space. And I *loathe* the message the final episode sends about " _You should get ya' girl preggo and then leave her to raise the kid so he'll grow up to resent you for neglecting his childhood because it's the Nihon way!_ " The series _seriously_ dropped the ball with those episodes. It was excellent at the start with a beautiful opening. Much sadness. 3:52 - Honestly, I think that sounds absolutely breathtakingly amazing. Always had felt that way about space and the void. 4:20 - Planetes - πλάνης - is a Greek word. It's meaning being 'Wanderer', as the is what the ancient Greek philosophers noted when they saw the stars in the sky. And if we apply this term, Wanderer, Roamer. Then we can see that the series is in fact about Hachi and how he is just 'roaming without goal', only having dreams. Final: Except no. The terrorists are unquestionably the bad guys because they represents the turtle mentality of holding everyone back including progress out of fear. Their justification or attempt at justifying their actions are ludicrous.
Great mangakas always make at least one sci-fi story at some point in their carrier.
Been interested in this for a while; gotta see what Yukimura was cooking before Vinland!
It’s worth it!
I think your description of the themes really resonated with me I will have to check it out

They made this into an anime not so? It was the first one to make me cry as a kid… 😅 Perhaps it’s time for a rewatch as an adult
I heard the anime is really good!
Yeah just finished it yesterday night and it did make me cry.
The earth is flat but I may still check it out because Yukimura is an awesome storyteller.
I recommend a manga/anime called Space Brothers.
