This was a great episode Charles. Sifu Alex is amazing. I especially enjoyed listening to him and how knowledge he is of Bruce Lee. His history with his martial artist connections is astonishing. Coming from an dedicated Lee fan like myself I was in awe. Alex is a little younger than us and yet his knowledge is just so interesting. This episode left me yearning for more. Can’t wait for part two. He is an individual I definitely want to meet. I love his podcast. He is a cool cat. I recall listening to Yeun Wah on UA-cam saying that the Triad said Bruce was untouchable because they liked him and the impact he bought to Asian culture so the theories that the Triad had something to do with his death was a total a falsehood. One thing I took notice of when Chan Wei Man told Brandon to step up his game, that alone was great mentoring, educating Brandon on how truly great his father was. Gem of an episode Charles and Sifu Richter. That was top notch 😎👍🏽👍🏽✌🏽✌🏽.

This is a bunch of crap. Bruce Lee grew up in a wealthy home, His father was a famous Opera singer and Lee was brought to and from school by chauffeured limousine. He began acting classes at the age of 5 and dance classes after that.
@@johnmatonne7834 what the point he still inspired millions around t the world and even after 50 years. And did not to perpetuate the martial arts than any one individual! Also practiced 8 hours a day to perfect his skills and pro fighter who were taught by him or parred with him said the speed and power he generated for his weight was like no other….he was the real deal. Maybe not the best fighter because who determines that but one of the greatest Martial Arts!

This was an absolutely brilliant interview, could sit and listen to you two for hours! Sifu Alex Richter is so knowledgeable when it comes to Bruce Lee/Martial Arts and always offers a very balanced and unbiased view and I respect that. As for the people who say Bruce Lee wasn't a real fighter, I just can't understand it at all. Like I've said before, nobody can become that great of a martial artist and not have some fighting ability! I'm 26 and even people my age refuse to acknowledge what a genius Bruce Lee was and a lot of UFC fighters/fans tend to put him down so much. I see it as clear jealousy and hate for the most part. Of course Bruce wasn't unbeatable and greatest fighter of all time but I believe he was a very capable street fighter and certainly the most influential martial artist of all time. Sir, according to me, at his times Bruce Lee (at around 1971) used to study books on Carl Watts, Lao Tzu, Buddhism and books on our Indian philosopher, speaker and author JK Murti (Jiddu Krishna Murti)...

Richter has done well here.Knowledgeable and with lot of insight plus anecdotes.Very interesting and a sound assessment of Lee.Which fills in gaps.
Turns out that Lee was a showman,a classy one,right from the beginning.That extra also went in his favor and the build up of his charismatic persona.
The interview brought out the originality of Bruce as well.Much ahead of his time.

Saw the Chan Wai Man interview about Brandon Lee. The video has subtitles, so it's easy to understand why he slapped Brandon. I find the story credible. In Asia, you don't disrespect your elders, whether they are dead or alive. Brandon was no Bruce, but may they both rest in peace. Holy Enter the Dragon.....Kung Fu Guru!!!!! That was cool to see him actually there with you! As for the comment of never having to see an old Bruce Lee decline with time...he brought a huge point. Can u imagine if he was alive and the Betty Ping extra-marital scandal came out in the 80s?? Im sure he would still be famous but we would have seen him as human basically with faults. He died young and immortal like James Dean.

Hi Charles! Hi Alex! A very interesting interview, I took a look at the fight that Alex mentioned with Chen wei men and the Japanese guy. Knocked him out in about 30 seconds. I've seen him in some Kungfu movies playing the good guy and bad. I didn't know who he was and that he was friends with Bruce lee. The pep talk with Brandon was interesting to here. Alex I believe what you say stands to be true. You do research, and you try to bring truth to your podcast and on Charles channel. I never really seen your podcast only when you got hold of those letters about Bruce and drugs. It's not easy for people to here the truth. Between your martial arts training and teachings. Your podcast, and interviews I wish you the best. I can't wait for part two. Hopefully I would meet you in person the day Charles and Hector do the 16 mm or 32 mm movie day of Bruce lee in the city. KFG come on dude! He's remembered not just because he was the first to do it, but because he had phenomenal skills. Without the skills, no one would give a shit. Btw, what did Scott Adkins do on screen that Bruce Lee couldn't do? Bruce's fight choreography, even to this day, is second to none.
Agreed his skills were second to none and even to this day no one comes close and is still the greatest of all time

Loved this episode, Charles. I appreciate the fact that Alex will acknowledge that some of what he says is basically his opinion or what he thinks happened but he also explains in detail why he believes those things, he seems to offer educated opinions, not just your run of the mill Bruce Lee was the GOAT or (from the opposing corner) Bruce Lee was just an actor stuff. I watched the Chan Wai Man (hope I got that name right) fight, that was impressive; if that guy respected Bruce Lee as a martial artist that really says something. Also, I didn't remember until now that he was one of the bad guys who fought Jackie Chan in Project A Pt 2!
As for Bruce's respect for Chan Wai Man, I wonder if part of that wasn't because Chan kind of represented things part of Bruce would have wanted to be: a professional fighter with a legit ring record, a real life "gangster", someone with real life experience as a law enforcer, etc.. Bruce's life went in different directions when he moved to the States, but had he stayed in Hong Kong, never been shipped off to America, well, who knows what he would have ended up as ...

He knocked Elms down but didn't stop him. There have been another couple of amateur fights prior to that fight that have been mentioned but nothing confirmed. Those pictures you showed aren't all of Bruce either. The one at the bottom ppl think the guy trapped in the corner is Bruce but it clearly isn't.

Jesse Glover witnessed Bruce knocked out Youchi Nakachi in seconds. Nakachi was Black belt in judo, karate, and Japanese Jujitsu. Nakachi challenged Bruce because Bruce kind of pissed Nakachi saying his style was restricted, narrow, unlike Bruce's JKD, very mixed martial arts.

Talking about a Bruce Lee successor, I remember in the 70's movie theaters all those Bruce immatator movies came out like Exit the Dragon Enter the Tiger, and such. I have been watching a LOT of kung fu movies late 70's , especially Dragon Lee, Bolo, Bruce Le in them. I have to say most are laughable why I watch them but compelling why we all enjoyed them. I wonder how Bruce would have felt if he could see those or an imitator like Dragon Lee using Bruce's image look but really not mastering martial arts well except those crazy hand moves and spinning kicks? I wonder how he would have felt seeing someone imitate him? I wonder how Bruce would have felt seeing the whole movement of bad Kung Fu martial arts movies that became schlock like all those Wu Tang type movies.? Seems pre 1973 you didn't see them really being made with all the 20 min bad fights trading blocks.

I do not like or respect Chan Wei Man. There’s an interview where he talked about Brandon and how he wanted him to act like his father so he could make a quick buck.
In fact, it made me respect Brandon even more for not trying to be like his father. Although Brandon loved and respected his father, he wanted to be his own person. He even said in an interview that he didn’t want to imitate him and be a poor man’s Bruce Lee.
Also, it’s not that he was “ashamed” of being Chinese, he was telling the truth as he was also an American.
Brandon was able to step out of his father’s shadow with the Crow and was on the cusp of becoming a huge star. Without a doubt, he would be a huge star today if he hadn’t died.
That interview legitimately made me angry and I seriously hate Chan Wei Man for disrespecting Brandon like that.

Well done :)! I think the major problem is the change of definition in the past decade. Go here on UA-cam for "Michael Bisping fake martial artists", and you can see what i mean. Even most MMA people praise Lee as great martial artist, but simply not as a fighter. You must see todays definition for "fighter" is as follow:
Its a guy who competes in combat sport, be it Boxing, Thaiboxing, Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, MMA, Amateur Wrestling, etc..
If he gains enough money to make a living he is a professional fighter. If he doesnt gain enough money and needs an other job he is a semi-professional fighter, and if he doesnt gain money at all he is an Amateur fighter.
And you can hate it or not: But there is a truth in that!
So i would say Lee was a real or great street fighter, but not a great fighter. A "fighter" is someone who fights against others in competition, and Lee's record there is very small, 1-0-0 in Amateur Boxing (opponent Gary Elms), other then that some fencing fights since his older brother Peter was a fencer.
So my quote is always: Bruce Lee was not a fighter, but a deadly street fighter.
Thats exactly how Matthew Polly describes it.
Why would anyone claim he was a deadly street fighter when the only known street fights he had as a kid and didnt hurt anyone...we have the 1 confirmed fight with Wong Jack Man and he didnt hurt him either.

Bruce lee thought trained and researched the art of fighting after realising the traditional arts karate etc were no good.
Who else had a library of 2000 books before him..no one. Bruce was hunted down and sought after by many and those who had money paid him 250 dollars an hour in the 60s everything he did was geared to street fighting bare knuckle or nothing so you figure it out.

....Scott Adkins isn't doing anything special on-screen dude, he's done pretty much what we've seen Tai Kwon Do practitioners do since the 1980s. Bruce was way out of everybody's league completely bruh. This guy is dropping all these names of this person, that person as a way to subliminally compare others to his presence but, it's nowhere near the same level of intensity. Bruce passed away so young for his way of life but, with his ever razor edge journey of seeking to be greater by any means possible....I think he would have died prematurely either way or would have broken the overall cheat code of all Martial Arts forever never to be questioned.
