Thank you so much for your other “tile over tile” video. My husband and I transformed our dated 1990s kitchen backsplash to a new trendy glass tile backsplash (for others, just know glass is way tougher to deal with than ceramic, be prepared). We wouldn’t even have thought we could do it, but even I’m amazed. It looks so professional and you’d never even know there’s tile behind it.
Very sage advice, we were in different situations over our lifetime. Lots of things that can get you by for a while until you have the resources, or time, to do it better. Nicely done Jeff!
By the way. If you use Bins prime you should be able to do you back splash. The only reason I question my project is because of it's location size and the texture of the brick paneling.
What’s your opinion on stick on tile backsplash over paneling. Any prep ideas or hacks to make it work? Also looking at tin/vinyl ceiling what’s your take on it. DIY or hire a professional?
I removed1960s laminate backsplash and replaced with concrete backer board (harder board) for support and placed ceramic tile over top. It looks great.
Jeff this is awesome-that was me that asked that question! I pondered your answer for a bit and decided I needed to know how strong the laminate was adhered to the wall. You talk a lot about investigating things-so I peeled back some of the laminate and discovered the adhesive had almost no grab. I calmed my mothers worry by showing her your response as a professional, and then easily ripped the laminate off with almost no damage to the drywall. Without your input I wouldn’t have felt comfortable tearing it away, thinking it was a much more permanent feature of the house. Thank you so much for giving me the best information for whichever way I wanted to go with the project!! Massively encouraging ☺️✨
I have a situation similar to this. It’s going to be a backsplash in a laundry room. Originally it was going to just be painted. So I removed the wallpaper. Primed all the brown spots with kilz and skim coated flat with plus 3. Now the plan is changed to tile that wall. Is that wall going to be able ti hold the tile now? And what thin set would you recommend?
What about refreshing a tile entryway? I’ve looked at blogs where they’ve painted their tile floors, but I’m concerned about the durability, especially because it’s high traffic and can get wet-is there a product that would actually work and stay good for a number of years? Otherwise, can you put luxury vinyl plank over textured tile with 3/8 inch grout lines? How do you deal with the added height + front door/threshold? Would love to see something on those topics.
I think it might be a good idea to throw a few, my mind has blanked, the screws that have a shallow but extra wide head, like an integrated washer, into the laminate to stabilize it, that way if the adhesive on the back side wasn't particularly great it is less likely to fail due to the weight of the tile. I specifically mention those screws because the wider head helps distribute the point load thereby reducing tearout, and the shallow head would help reduce issues with tile installation

Hi! Previous owners used sheets of 1x1 glass mosaic for the laundry and 1/2 bath floor. Why?! Who will ever know. It’s not our style and not great for resale either. I’m considering two options: painting it or place groutable vinyl tile over top of it. I’m scared to start sledge hammering it out and bite off more than we can chew if other issues show. My concern with the tile option is adhesion considering all the grooves from 1x1 tiles vs the probably 12x24 I’d place on top. What would you suggest? Is there a way to even out the surface ahead of time or do you think it would stick using additional adhesion products and good technique? Hi. I put an oil based primer on my kitchen wall behind my sink. No I want to tile it. Will that be ok? Will a tile adhesive hold the tile on the wall with a oil based primer under them?

I don't want to remove the backsplash. I'm wondering, do you think I could install 1/4" backerboard on top of the backsplash all the way down to the granite and then tile on that? Hello. Any suggestions for tiling directly over linoleum tiles with ceramic. My floor is in really good condition and I don't want to pull up the linoleum. Can I just put down eco prim grip and go for it? The linoleum is on a wood subfloor. Thanks.

Do I need to fill out paper work to do this? I want to start fixing my parent's home, but I am hesitant because of paperwork and being fined for making changes that I should not be without my town/city's approval. Not sure if this is the same for our neighbors in Canada
If you're asking if you need a permit to put in a backsplash then I'm almost positive the answer is no because you aren't messing with anything electrical, plumbing, or structural. Legally it shouldn't be any different than painting or wallpapering a wall. Where I am they want you to get a permit for just about anything, even just replacing an outlet or switch, but I don't think anybody does unless they are doing something major and will have an inspector that would see other things they've done and I wouldn't even look into getting a permit for a backsplash even if something else was getting inspected.
Great video, I'm building my own house and I believe the distributor sold me the wrong thickness of corrugated steel, the metal corrugated section normally is 1" and they sold me 5/8" and I installed it per their recommendations and it leaks in certain spot, mostly where the steel panels overlap. I'm looking at the Home Depot site right now, and they have some bathroom floor tile products that are click-together ceramic or click-together porcelain. Thoughts?
Schluter has a product line that will do exactly what you want. It's a german company and isn't the cheapest, but it's top notch and I've used it for my bathroom here and in my place in Bulgaria. Also they were having hundreds of demonstrations around the states for their products and I'm sure you can find one near you.

I just got my dad's house as he has passed away. His house is in terrible condition. House made in 1932 here in AZ, USA. He was doing a lot of DIY but it is an eyesore. To me, I want to find out how safe the house is in the current condition, not only safe but the overall condition.
I got all my money back from them but I'm still here with a leaky roof. I'm trying to not have to do the whole roof again as it is very large, any ideas to seal it up?? Thank you!! 👍
Karnak cures everything...
@@borys444 thanks for the suggestion but it has to look nice too, this is a gable roof not a flat roof, I can see my roof when I'm coming up my driveway
Hey Jeff, love your channel - have you got a video on building a shower bench ? cheers from Sydney, Aust.
The mosaic tile on my shower floor is coming up one little square at a time. Can I reinstall them? We will eventually redo this bathroom, so I don't want to invest a ton into it right now.
I'm looking at the Home Depot site right now, and they have some bathroom floor tile products that are click-together ceramic or click-together porcelain. Thoughts?
garbage. Cheers!
I still can’t find the shower pan that’s 4 x 4 with a right hand dream so I need to figure out how to make the floor from scratch any advice
Schluter has a product line that will do exactly what you want. It's a german company and isn't the cheapest, but it's top notch and I've used it for my bathroom here and in my place in Bulgaria. After having a wet bathroom there I couldn't dare go back to the normal us style now that I have kids.

I know the restroom needs work such as re-sealing the toilet, repairing the wall behind the toilet, replacing the shower due to hard water damage. ... Just what I see is terrible but I want a professional to survey the house condition. I am new and I need help and i don't know who to go to and ask.
Hire a contractor but sounds like it will be lots of money.
would it not depend on how secure the laminate is to the wall?
If you are going to "TILE OVER IT" you can screw it down, LOL, into the studs. My thinking is you could sand it, then score it, and then tile over it but that seems to be more work than just taking it off !!
I tried backsplash in a bathroom before.. it looked ok to most visitors but I always noticed all the imperfections ha
How to do tile counter tops?
Can you tile over painted wall in a kitchen?
definitely!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY do you have a video on that?... tile over painted wall in kitchen?
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Is there an ideal primer to prep the previously painted surface for tile backsplash?
My laminate was adhered to a piece of MDF, so I just sawed it off level. It wasn’t adhered to the wall except by a few small nails. I had to saw it level because it was places behind the counter...ugh.
How do you deal with walls the aren’t very flat when laying backsplash?
i use a straight line and fill in the voids with drywall compound or cement or adhesive first.
Can someone tell me how to install tiles over frp in my shower...dont want to ho thtu the hustle of riping off the frp panels as I noticed it has been glue to br there for ever..
I have a laminate countertop but it has a small gap because of water. Is there a way to close it and then tile or will I have to remove the whole countertop?
You should be able to use spray foam to fill the gap. Cut off any excess and start the rest of the project.
@@kelechiajayi3049 thank you
Removing the formica backsplash requires taking down the cabinets, as it runs behind them.
Can you make a video of you saying “process” and “sorry”?
Hehe I wonder why did you ask this question? 🧐

Hi,I love your videos and I am a manufacturer of SPC flooring , how about we make some cooperation ?
I'm a handyman... how do i NOT price myself out of a job?
Well All I can say to you is that I don't like your video 🆗,the fact is that I really, really love it and thanks for such a great information; please keep on doing it..! My best regards to and your family...! Thanks again and God bless you...!
When you address issues it makes me laugh because you seem caught between the diyer who really does not know much and the professional that you are! The good news is, you always manage to guide "us" through what we would like to do and what we should do. I forgot, "Cheers!"
How do I get subway tile off without ruining wallboard?
Get ur scraper behind the tile and lightly hit it with a hammer then hope for the best. Unless the mastic is so old and completely dried out chances r that there will b some damage to the walls.
@@borys444 probably wont be too bad, he never even sealed the grout. I guess I should be thankful for some of his disastrous attempt to flip this house. Lol
That's so encouraging. Lol
