The author either decided to end the story there or simply died before she could publish anything else. From what I hear, she was actually pretty depressed towards the end. I've been rewatching this over and over omg Looked up the lyrics one of the first times, and I just... God this is sad. I was thinking about what I know of the S2 ending (haven't finished it yet, I joined the fandom recently) and literally started crying because??? From what I understand, the Moomins just leave? Nobody knows where they are, Snufkin and Moomintroll might not even see each other ever again. I was bawling for like, half an hour. It makes sense that it would be sad, of course, considering the last book was written about grief after Tove's mother died. And I know that this show isn't done yet, they're working on S3. But this video, the books, all that still seems to _work_ in this really beautiful and sad way. You don't know what will happen, you don't know if any of these characters will meet again. All you have are the memories, sadness, and uncertainty. I think it's honestly beautiful..
